@jeffronschaeffel Buy a att gophone and the prepaid refill card. Then activate it online. Afterwards, when u activate it, put the sim card into ur iphone (AND ONLY UR IPHONE) most important part. Because if u put the sim into another phone before ur iphone it won't work.

@lebguyfever Did you Jailbreak your iPhone? Sometimes when you jailbreak it, you need to unlock it as well, but for this you must have a very specific Bootloader version if you have a new version of the bootloader then are not able to unlock it at the moment, You can also use Pwnage Tool for Mac (to my knowledge) and tell it that you have AT&T service and it should work. Let me know if you have further questions.

@Dadachip2009 What happened with the iPhone 3G is that my friend bought it at AT&T and it was activated through iTunes, so it was activated, then when we swapped SIM cards, the phone worked with the pre-paid service. Just beware the 3G usage price is outrageous! So what we found out is that as long as the phone is activated through some sort of means, maybe Dev Team's solutions or other you can use a goPhone card without further tinkering.

Yes you can. I had my iPhone 3G running 2.2.1 with a gophone sim card. Just upgrade to 3.0 and leave your sim card in it. After the process is completed, it should say activating your iPhone. Just let it do its thing and after a minute, it should would fine.

This is what I was planning to do for the past five months. I finally ordered a 16gb white iPhone 3g from eBay. Today, I'm going over to CVS and picking up an AT&T GoPhone. I will then activate the GoPhone SIM and put it in my iPhone 3G and everything will work properly. Correct me if I'm wrong.
