  • "Double Rain Barrel - all the way - what does it mean?" :)

j/k - nice job on the DIY.

  • dude y not get water from ur sink is alot faster n better

  • @DJKID777 you might want to read up on fluoride ,it's added to all city water. it will shock you !!!

  • @tommy369ts wut so scary about it

  • Double rainbarrel! It's so beautiful. What does it mean?

  • You're brilliant!

  • @zadickel A creative idea that works!! :-) Thanks much!

    Shawna

  • @zadickel and cute

  • "it only takes a 1/4" of water, to fill up my rain barrel."

  • The fact that you are easy on the eyes helps too! Signed, a beginner in permaculture :)

  • @blueyedsole ::grin:: Thanks!

  • I use one of those 2000 gallon above ground pools out here in Arizona to collect rain water off the house and garage, plus 55 gallon drums like you have. Works great for all the gardens and crops. Use the winter snows and summer storms, they fill up fast! You have some nice videos here. Take care - Brian

  • @BrianLuper Thanks Brian!

  • I wuv you !

  • A better design would to be rain barrels in a parallel system (connected at the bottom rather than by an overflow at the top). Then both fill/drain at same time and you never need to switch the hose from one barrel to another.

  • @mar504 Perhaps. But we don't have to switch hoses - we keep one higher than the other, so it seems to work okay. :-)

  • @TheCasualGardener You don't? Why do you have a spigot on each barrel then? (that's what I mean, you can only use water from one barrel at a time) If they are in parallel then you have one spigot and both barrels can be at the same height as it uses water from both barrels at the sam time, there is no reason for one to be higher than the other. Does that make sense?

  • I have a composter like that. It takes forever to fill up though and since you don't spin it, it will take much longer to decompose. Still I am a happy. I am looking into a cheap rain barrel if I can find one. They are expensive!

  • @ILuvCaroline You can make your own rain barrel out of a garbage can super cheap -- search "garbage can composter" on Google and you should come up with instructions on how to do it.

    Best,

    Shawna

  • it looks really nice, a real "clean" look. do you need a pump or is there enough pressure to water with a hose connected to the outlet spout at a distance? oh yeah, and talk about watering the compost pile, here in AZ right now I water it a few times a day, lol. I'm thinking of adding a drip line to automate it :)

  • @ArizonaAdventures I don't need to pump - the gravity feed works if you place it up high enough.

  • your overflow should be as big as your intake otherwise your water will overflow to around your foundation

  • @Sakhalina Thanks! I've never had a problem with this. The water seems to flow and work just fine.

    Shawna

  • @Sakhalina No it doesn't. It doesn't have to be as big unless you are in a hurricane... LOL

  • @Sakhalina no it doesn't with the smaller hole the water will just come out at a higher velocity.
