Only thing I would suggest is get some pretty thin flat steel and weld it around your lid to act like a cap. That way when it rains it wont be as easy for the wind and rain to blow water on your mail. Good luck!

Great mailbox. I've been thinking of making one myself. I think there should be a rain, wind, snow guard around the door or some kind of a seal.
