So now all you haters know more than th judges? And besides, aren't you happy she won, she is the American, so unless you're from another country shouldn't you be happy for her? She won for the USA because she was obviously the best.
@MrAerial12345 Hi, me too, but Pavlova did not deserve the silver medal, she deserved the GOLD medal, compare her routines with Pattersn's routines and you will see Pavlova had everything to win, perfect landings, difficulty, artistry, she is the real champion. God bless you!
@BoraBoraGirl2001 Who cares what I think? Well, my comment is in one of the top comments, you see? You are the idiot. You said Patterson hit her routins, that's true, but not being the best, watch her vautl, watch her landings on floor beforre you comment.
@agators212 Yevgeny is still a coach at WOGA, but coaches different gymnastics. I imagine that part of the reason is that back in the 90s when Carly and Hollie started, Valeri was still competing at an international elite level himself.
Please, she is a great gymnast and on that day she was the best. Obviously the judges thought she deserved, and I believe that too. There may be others competing that day that are better, but Carly showed up to win that day, and did.
I remeber being nine years old and my parents letting me stay up late to watch this. I also remember running around my front yard sceaming when she won. I was on the fence about quitting at that time, but I stayed in it because of her. She is why I love gymnastics.
Well think what you want. Patterson isnt half the gymnast Khorkina is and will never be. Nobody in gymnastics even remembers Carly anymore. Even Mary Lou forgot her, after Natia's AA Olympic win "you were the only American to win the Olympic AA" Mary Lou "well not anymore." Best U.S gymnasts ever dont even include Carly- they are Shawn Johnson, Shannon Miller, Nastia Liukin, trailed by Kim Zmeskal, Mary Lou Retton
1995 European Cup- AA gold, bars gold, vault bronze, floor bronze
1995 Worlds- AA silver, bars gold
1996 event Worlds- bars gold
Khorkina at 15 and 16 was even better than Patterson overall. And Patterson's peak was at 16 which is why she retired. Are you honestly trying to suggest Patterson is a better gymnast than Khorkina from any perspective.
@russianskatingfan WOW. Carly won the gold medal fair in square. Stop being jealous. And BTW, this was is 2004. GET OVER IT. You just now are posting your feeling. That's almost 7 freaking years. Jeez. Ypur people are so jealous.
......but what is evident either way is this. She isnt even a top 40 gymnast all time and Khorkina is top 5 all time easily. There is no reason to assume her anything beyond that. She chose to retire, her skills looked quickly outdated by the gymnasts in the upcoming years, and at her peak she didnt win anything other than that one AA title. Khorkina = legend of gymnastics. Patterson = trivia question.
@russianskatingfan WOW. Carly won the gold medal fair in square. Stop being jealous. And BTW, this was is 2004. GET OVER IT. You just now are posting your feeling. That's almost 7 freaking years. Jeez. Ypur people are so jealous.
What "titles" would Patterson have gained after the 2004 Games? If her back didnt go out already she might have gotten lucky to win the 06 AA world title because of Ferrari falling, Memmel injured, and Nastia injured, and if she hit all her routines, but that is a whole lot of what ifs. Obvously she never wins a big title on vault, bars, or floor. And the beam winners from 2005 on were all too tough for her to beat too.
@avery52791 I mean no offense but, while I agree that the better gymnast won, I KNOW you aren't defending her artistry. I hate to say it (and agree with such an abrasive poster as getnasty) but.....she is kinda along the lines of Shawn Johnson. Robotic artistry but powerful tumbling. IN the relm of artistry her routine IS disappointing.
she won the all around but catalina ponor beat her on her favorite event. she never won a world championship all around, and svetlana won 3 world championships, she went to 3 olympic games and invented skills in all the events. even when she won i like her teammate long lines and good style of courtney koopets, unfourtenely she was fighting with pain on her ancle
@1Timoteo41 you know olympics is much better than the worlds..and yes khorkina do get to all 3 olympics but she did not get the all around title that every gymnast dream of when they are in olympics..olympics is every four years and worlds is every year
@dhube That is true, olympics is much better than the worlds, but if we talk about who left behind more impact in the world of gymnastics, we have to name Svetlana Khorkina, even when she never won the all around olympic tilte she actually has more history, more medals, more skills invented, better lines, artistry, elegance, music, and to win a silver in the all around is not bad at all, she was close on Sidney just because of the vault controversy,Khorkina will be remembered more than Carly forever!
@dhube The olympics was just like Carly said after the team final, JUST ANOTHER COMPETITION. Yea, that was right just ONE COMPETITION, but to win a lots of world titles is better, especially when competing all the time with new generations, its hard when the other ones are younger and she was getting old, it is also risky because when learning new skills all the time it is easier to get an injury.
@dhube dont delude yourself. Yes Patterson has the Olympic AA title but that is the only thing she has ever won other than 1 Team title at Worlds. She has never won a World individual title on anything. She also did not win an Olympic event title. In fact she only has 4 total individual World or Olympic medals. To compare her career to Khorkina is like comparing Sarah Hughes to Kwan. In all time greats Khorkina is right amongst the top and Patterson isnt even in the top 40 probably.
@russianskatingfan but you have got to take into account that she was only 16 when she won this....of course she hasn't won as many medals and titles as khorkina because she was 25 in this games, so she has had more experience and history than patterson. If patterson didn't retire after this olympics then she probably would of gained more medals and titles.
@jandj094 I doubt out. She had back problems and she would have been overtaken by Liukin and Memmel i 2005, then by many in later years. She didnt have the talent to dominate gymnasts like Khorkina. Imagine her going up against Shawn and Nastia in 2008, lol. She won in 2004 since it was a nothing field- aging way way past her prime Khorkina and nothing else. Even a healthy Kupets could have beaten her or Ponor had she trained bars. Ponor was the real best gymnast of the games with 3 golds.
@russianskatingfan yes i did know she had back problems...and yes i do agree that liukin and johnson may of been better than her. But that's what happend to khornkina...as she went on in her career other gymnasts had beaten her like patterson. It happens. I'm not saying that khorkina is a bad gymnast, which she isn't. But patterson was better than her on THAT night, and got the gold. I do agree that ponor is a very good gymnast but has weak areas also.
@jandj094 Yes Patterson was better on one night than a way way past her prime Khorkina at 25. Khorkina way past her prime was better than her the the previous year on one night at 24. So peak Patterson vs washed up Khorkina is 1-1 head to head. Now imagine Patterson vs peak Khorkina from 97-2000. Prime Khorkina would have destroyed Patterson in the AA and on every event but beam.
Imagine Patterson if she competed at age 25. She probably wouldnt even qualify for U.S Nationals.
@russianskatingfan but the fact is she didn't. khorkina wasn't at peak at the age of 25 so therefore patterson was better than khornkina then. so patterson got the gold. Also if patterson didn't have back problems, you don't know how much she could of improved over the years. just like khorkina did.
@jandj094 but Patterson did have her back problems and also didnt have the motivation or drive to continue or the guts to face new challengers. So fact is all she was is a flash in the pan who in her best 2 years ever never even won an event title, and who at the site of her biggest victory (the Olympic AA win over the worst field ever) found herself outshone by Ponor who left the Game with 3 golds to her 1 and beat her on her best event. So fact she is no Khorkina, nor even Johnson or Liukin.
@russianskatingfan how do you know she didn't have the motivation? she may of....her back problems may of been the reason for her having to stop gymnastics altogether and moved onto another goal to fufill another dream of singing. what a champion.
@jandj094 you are the one who started with the whats ifs, not me. I was pointing out her career is dust compared to Khorkina and other legends. You then started with the "well if she continued...". You dont have any proof she would have achieved anything more even if she did continue just like I dont have proof why she retired. Personaly I think she took her slightly flukish gold and ran and her eventual back problems just cemented her decision to retire.
@jandj094 why not just compare Patterson at this her peak year to Khorkina in one of hers.
Patterson 2004- AA gold, beam silver
Khorkina 1997 (Worlds)- AA gold, bars gold, beam silver, floor silver (tied for gold but tiebreaker rule)
Patterson 2003- AA silver
Khorkina 2001(Worlds)- AA gold, bars gold, vault gold, floor bronze
So forget about longevity, just compare the two gymnasts in their best years and their success. And Khorkina faced a much deeper field than those year than the 04 one.
@russianskatingfan and my reply to that would of been the paragraph explaining about the age differences. What did khorkina acheive at the age of 15/16? in my opinion i prefer patterson. If you prefer khorkina that's fine with me.
@1Timoteo41 WOW. Carly won the gold medal fair in square. Stop being jealous. And BTW, this was is 2004. GET OVER IT. You just now are posting your feeling. That's almost 7 freaking years. Jeez. Ypur people are so jealous.
@heidilove4911 Jealous? what stupid word to describe someones opinion. Carly won in your opinion but not in the opinion of many. My comment is still in one of the top. Now watch Anna Pavlovas vault and watch Carlys vault. Carly land out of the line and was short. Pavlova was more straight in the air. Now watch the uneven bars, both of them were great. On balance beam, Carly was awesome, fantastic, but Pavlova wasnt too bad at all and performed unique elements connected. On floor Pavlova was better.
@1Timoteo41 Again, you don't have to put so much work into that. You did 3 paragraphs. Haha, wow. I love Carly. SHE IN AWESOME. You don't have to bring up other gymnast. And, it was my opinion. Like you said. But, she won the 2004 Olympics. Pavlova DID NOT. I think Pavlova deserved a silver, then gold.
@heidilove4911 You think Pavlova did not deserved gold because you cannot judge gymnastics as good as other gymnastics fans. I gave u the evidence and asked you to compare them on every event. Anyways, Im agree, Carly was a great gymnast too, but as I said not the best one on that Olympics.
@1Timoteo41 She is a great gymnast. She did win. Although, she is not the best. I'm sorry if i did anything to get into long argruments. I get in alot of opinion fights. So you think Pavlova is great. And i think Carly is great, but not the best.
@heidilove4911 Pavlova stuck every landing, one of them was a blind landing on the third pass. Carly did not stuck 3 o her 4 tumbling passes. Those are supposed to be deductions after deductions and not to mention the dance elements where she supposed to get more deductions. In artistry Pavlova was more elegant. My conclusion is that Pavlova deserved gold, Carly silver, and Svetlana bronze. The judges did not judge good on this Olympics. Paul won a gold medal with a big fall on vault?haha no way
@heidilove4911 Alexei Nemov did not won a medal on uneven bars? Wow, watch the crowd how unhappy they were at the time of hearing the scores. In men and women gymnastics on that Olympics the judges were horrible. Why do you think that after that Olympics they changed the scoring system? So people cannot understand anymore and avoid the crowd being angry at them. This is not jealousy, anyone can notice that Pavlova was better but did not have the reputation as Khorkina and Carly
@Ricoblack2012 We are not haters, we just say the truth, Carly was good, but in my opinion she was not the best in the all around! Check the competition and compare her performances with Ana Pavlova for example. God bless you!
@BoraBoraGirl2001 And any time an American 'win' most stupid Americans believe they did it being the best, they have no knowledge in this sport. Are you gonna say that Paul Hamm was also the best gymnast? Go comment in other videos, I know more gymnastics than you American ignorant. We don't complain about Nastia, because she did win, may be because she is more Russian, you get it?
@MrLalol123 The point is, I dont think she is the real champion, the judges has been making so many mistakes judging gymnastics in the last few years.
So now all you haters know more than th judges? And besides, aren't you happy she won, she is the American, so unless you're from another country shouldn't you be happy for her? She won for the USA because she was obviously the best.

@Ricoblack2012 We are not haters, we just say the truth, Carly was good, but in my opinion she was not the best in the all around! Check the competition and compare her performances with Ana Pavlova for example. God bless you!

@1Timoteo41 Who cares what you think? Are you qualified to judge an Olympic gymnastics competition?? Carly won fair and square.

@1Timoteo41 she probably cares more about what she did win than what she lost

@MrLalol123 The point is, I dont think she is the real champion, the judges has been making so many mistakes judging gymnastics in the last few years.

@1Timoteo41 Any time an American wins, some idiot from another country always whines and complains. Give me a break.
