"Addressing the World Press Conference in Abuja yesterday, the European Union delegation said that the elections "Were marred by poor organisation, lack of essential transparency, widespread procedural irregularities, significant evidence of fraud, particularly during result collation process, voters disenchantment at different stages of the process, lack of equal conditions for contestants and numerous incidents of violence." ---- Guardian Newspapers Tuesday April 24, 2007.
"Two key International Organisations (National Democratic Institute (NDI) led by former United States Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright), and European Union Elections Observation Mission (EU EOM), yesterday declared last Saturday's Presidential and National Assembly elections in Nigeria (Under Olusegun Obasanjo's regime) as heavily flawed and, perhaps, the worst in all regions of the world." ------ The Guardian Newspapers. Tuesday April 24, 2007.
"..a journal by the American State Department..stated that (Olusegun) Obasanjo masterminded the failure of the (April 2007) elections. The stinging publication exposes both Obasanjo and (Abubakar) Atiku as the architects of election rigging in Nigeria since 1999 when they came to power."..."The scathing article is written by Jean Herskovits, (a former) officer of the CIA in charge of African Affairs.." --- Daily Independent Newspapers (Nigeria). Sunday August 5, 2007.
Nigeria is a beautiful country filled with the best of intellectuals, grate poverty, powerful military and massive structural and economic challenges.
Those unknown people coming from the northern part of Nigeria, KANO, seem suspiciously aided by foreign entities. Nigeria's military should increase intelligence on threats from external aggression towards the country. It's bad enough dealing with internal turmoil with over 140 Million people and foreign entities seeking to take advantage of chaotic situations in a country like Nigeria should think twice. I suspect it wouldn't be an easy situation facing Nigerian ground forces.
The best way for a dictator to rule him to see himself as a saviour who fights curruption and improves the economy. Good results will make people to want him to stay until death.
The whole government is corrupt, they need to unite the bazillion states there and develop the nation. Nigeria IS NOT ready for a democracy YET! They need leaders who actually care about the nation and incorporate all the people into the future, not just one group. The dude from Cairo is right.
