Outside of Rescue Me, Denis Leary is just another average comic. Very few comics today can approach his SNL, Animal House, Blues Bros, 1941 and late career serious stuff for groundbreaking stuff. What a sad waste of talent. A genius fuelled by self doubt. If only he'd held in there he would have had the role given to Bill Murray in Ghostbusters (Dan Aykroyd wrote it for John who dies when it was being written) Wouldn't he have been just fantastic in that role (Murray was still awesome)and it may have restored some much needed self confidence.
