it was a long time ago that i beat this game, but what i'll always remember was that the first time i played through i got to the undercity where something i didn't notice changed my rep to 1, making my good aligned party say fuck you and leave in the middle of things.... luckily i had cheats enabled so i summoned a legion of Drizzt's to save me lol
I just got to the last battle, and through all the Undercity and the few rounds the last battle went on, prior to the enemy mage landing an insta-death spell on my Berserker, this music didn't play. Instead I got Sarevok charging me to the music heard in every tavern in the BG series.
@paulman34340 I'm playing through again as a Berserker using BGT, except Khalid never spawned, leaving me with just Imoen until I nab Branwen, Kivan, Minsc, and Dynaheir or however you spell her name. Not that I'm complaining since all that Nashkel was getting to me.

Its been years since Ive played Bg1..like 10, but I still remember the epic battle I had with this guy. He wouldnt stop critting my pt members and making them explode. i used my main character and shot the shit out of him with explosives arrows. Epic battle, good times..
THIS ISN*T THE LAST BATTLE MUSIC, THE LAST BATTLE MSUIC IS CALLED ``FROM OUT THE STORM``, SEARCH IT OR PLAY THE GAME AND MANAGE TO COME TO THE LAST BATTLE IN BG-1 AND LISTEN.
I remember getting critted by sarevok every other strike and knocking back health potions like they were shots of vodka... He was one tough motherfucker!
Plenty of people mention P:T - what a classic game that was ! All the IE games were classics and collectively they were the best games ever made imo. The two Baldur's Gates just shade it over P:T for me, but I would also agree that P:T's story is the best - though the stories in BG1, BG2, IWD & IWD2 are hardly shallow. It's just a matter of taste.
Planescape : Torment = a unique classic. Possibly the deepest story ever written for a computer game.
The Elder Scrolls games are ok as games. But the fact that they are being discussed on a video about Baldur's Gate is appalling. They are NEVER to be compared. To do so gives The Elder Scrolls too much dignity.
The Elder Scrolls "games" scarcely qualify as games in my opinion. The combat is ridiculous, the dialogue is appalling, the plots are disappointing. It's incredible that anyone, let alone the gaming press, can give the Elder Scrolls efforts a score even approaching that of the IE games : they're a full 30% behind imo. Nice scenery, nice locations, nice flowers - poor games. Desperately poor.
They COULD be (or could have been) great games, but there's so much wrong with them it beggars belief. Most people are just wowed by the (admittedly amazing) 3D landscapes (" 'tis distance lends enchantment to the view") but in terms of engaging quests how many are there ? The Dark Brotherhood ? The Sword of Umbra ? Why couldn't Bethesda have maintained that quality throughout the game ? Can you seriously tell me that you still enjoyed tackling your TENTH Oblivion Gate ? Monotonous or what ?
I hope you know that this is not one of the elder scrolls games. and I sorta agree I mean they make you do all these quests and it feels like your not getting anywhere.
I was contrasting the Elder Scrolls games with the IE games. You suspected that but were just checking, I understand ! The Elder Scrolls games are good in their own way - chiefly in terms of the vast, beautiful 3D landscapes - but they don't deserve to be spoken of in the same breath as the IE games imo when it comes down to combat, storyline, dialogue, gameplay, depth etc. The Elder Scrolls games are so badly put together it's incredible that they have such a following - and the dialogue ??!!!
Also, the AI : a wolf attacks you and you can't be bothered to fight it because you don't need a wolf's pelt. So you try to outrun it. In vain ! The damn thing is still following you even when you're on the other side of the world. The Elder Scrolls games are pretty ludicrous - and yet people think that they're "great". Sigh. Bring back the Baldur's Gates. (No hope of that though.)
I'm trying not to get my hopes up in regards to Dragon Age: Origins so I won't be dssapointed but the dev team keeps claiming it's gonna be the "spiritual child" of the Baldur's Gate series.
....*sigh*
I guess if it's even half as good then it's at least gonna be a real decent RPG anyways. It's not like the KOTORs or the Mass Effect(s) aren't great- tough they are not a lot like Baldur's Gate either.
I'll be buying Dragon Age in all probability but I very much doubt that it will really be the "spiritual successor" to Baldur's Gate. I'm sure that most people who loved the BGs and the IE games in general will know what I mean when I say that they had a certain magic which other RPGs have lacked since - though it's very difficult to say what that magic consisted in. I've enjoyed subsequent RPGs but none of them has blown me away. The IE games had the perfect formula imo.
I tried to play Elder Scrolls Oblivion and I just couldn't because it depressed me so much. I mean, the game was too big to be a single player game. I mean, it it were an mmorpg, I could understand such a large world, but for a single player game...just, my god, what a no-life type of game.
I LIKE the Elder Scrolls games - very much. I should have made that clearer, even though I slag them off in comparison with the IE games. The Elder Scrolls games are flawed masterpieces. The 3D worlds created by Bethesda, especially (imo) in Morrowind, is second to none. But I reckon the IE games come from a different class of thinking than any other RPG games I know of. Just the most magical games of all time imo.
And the quality of the dialogue in Morrowind and Oblivion - compared with the IE games it's light years behind. I can't believe that anyone who loves RPGs can rate the Elder Scrolls games as highly as the IE games.
There are too many stupid flaws in the Elder Scrolls games that it would be almost impossible to know where to begin in mentioning all of them. It's just a STUPID game when compared with the IE games, and that's largely (but not only) down to the D&D rules, which for some unknown reason are so hated. Morrowind and Oblivion (which of the two is easier to play) are wonderful worlds but AS GAMES they are seriously broken.
The Elder Scrolls games are just that... games... whereas the masterpieces like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, etc. are more than just that... they're stories. Powerful stories. Just reading (and listening to!) the dialogue is enough to immerse you in a fantastic tale that draws you in. Plus add in the wonderful music and magnificent art, and you have something movie-worthy. Scratch that, these games are eons beyond movies.
You fight your way to the bottom of a dungeon in either Morrowind or Oblivion and you almost wish you hadn't bothered putting the effort in : your reward is to have to search through twenty barrels, each of which contains something totally insignificant. In the IE games you knew that the big battles would yield big rewards - not so in the Elder Scrolls games.
The character development system in both Morrowind and Oblivion has not been brought into any logical relationship with the gameplay : you begin by getting battered to death by a wolf and end up being invulnerable to attack even by the meanest enemy.
The world of Morrowind is (imo) better than that of Oblivion - but both games are so flawed it would hard to know where to start criticizing them. The "improvements" to the user-interface in Oblivion are almost laughably minor. If you want to make a potion you still have to tediously scroll through tens or hundreds of ingredients. Where do you stop when criticizing the Elder Scrolls games ?

From what I've seen, Dragon Age will be nothing like what BG fans might have been hoping for - but Bioware will want to keep that false hope up. They're shameless.
Can someone clear up who did what in the IE games ? What involvement did Black Isle Studios have and what was Bioware responsible for ? From the outside, nowithstanding all this, it's clear that Bioware has been pretty rubbish without Black Isle. And if I get loads of thumbs downs, I'll know that you're mostly Bioware employees. NWN and KotoR can't hold a candle to the BGs and P:T. Bioware's stuff has been AWFUL since BG2 . Writing quality especially ...
There will probably never be any better RPGs than the IE games and it's arguable which was the best. BG1 started the ball rolling and I couldn't argue with anyone who might say it was better than BG2, though I'm undecided myself - and P:T was awesome too. Interesting comment. :) But why do you only say that Obsidian likes to steal Bioware's stories and make crap of them ? And I don't really see what Oblivion has to do with this as that atrocity is made by Bethesda, the same guys who defiled Fallout's name and got away with it because the RPG player of today doesn't have a clue what a RPG is.
But I have to admit This and Morrowind, Along with The Second BG and Final Fantasy X, AND finally Metal Gear Solid 3. Rank among my favorite games of all time. Morrowind All Alone has a killer story. They're all great. Though some are better than others in differant areas.
I read somewhere that BG3 isn't going to be lauched because they didn't have funds for that... but it was some years ago... still I don't think they will "revive" this game... :(
We're lucky if BG3 isnt made. It won't be Bioware or Black Isle making it, and I'm quite sure we can all agree that the story at the end of Throne of Bhaal was as finished as a story can be.

If they make a third D&D movie *made by new line cinema and by peter jackson of course* and it takes place in Greyhawk or faerun. This music should be in it.
