on 45-2 before "The Wacky World of Tex Avery" (which also used to be on Channel 9 before Pokémon), which is also now on This TV at 6:30 at my mom's in my hometown of Montgomery.
Wow! When cartoons and TV shows were still shown on 16mm film reels! The quality was horrible - the lines and splices and jumps during scenes...but oh, the joy! How about when a film would screw up and the screen went blank to a title card until they got the film back on track! Miss those days!!!
Wow - remember watching this pac man and richie rich saturday mornings in the early 80's as a kid. Damn this is depressing and i don't know why! Where's my freakin time machine when I need one...
In my area these programs were aired on KMGT Channel 20 in Hawaii. It seems that a lot of people do not remember this incarnation of Tom and Jerry, I remember this Tom and Jerry that I grew up with. Thank you for sharing your memories.
Excellent, i am from the uk, so obviously we never got the station, but i loved seeing the schedule. Being a huge cartoon fan, it was good seeing the previews of the cartoons.
Sooo cool!! I thought I was the only one from this geographical area that had recordings of 80's tv (cartoons & commercials). I REALLY loved this Tom & Jerry show too! I mean, I love all T&J, but this one had the funky music, and Droopy, & the other characters. I honestly think I may have this exact recording.,,commercials and all. So cool. Awesome!
I remember that Lou Sheimer/Norm Prescott "wheel" in the credits of cartoons like Tom and Jerry. It was supposedly designed so neither one appears subordinate to the other.
I was only 20 years old to watch this KMSP Channel 9 from Minnesota station,b/c I came from Wisconsin when I watched Transformers, DuckTales,Chip and Dale and Disney Afternoon show .. Thanks!!
I'm sorry, but the Filmation Tom and Jerry was the worst of the bunch. Even worse than the horrible movie where they were friends, even worse than Tom and Jerry Kids, even worse than the Gene Deitch ones. Nothing beats the actual original 1940's Tom and Jerry/ Tex Avery cartoons!
Always good to revisit old friends... and the occasional foe: the Hanna-Barbara star used to haunt me as a kid, eheh. Had I seen 3:55 back then, I honestly think I would've imploded
i remember watching this. this was on saturday mornings on CBS in 1980. TV was so great back in those days. now there is nothing really that great to watch on TV.
@chipdrusano I don't think so. Look at 3:30, where the 1983-era "MGM/UA Entertainment Co." logo looks to be "plastered" on top of Leo's 1956 roar. MGM did not merge with UA until 1981.
One question I do have is, was this a compilation video, or did the opening to the show (2:05 - 3:00) accidentally air before the credits (3:00 - 3:30) that morning? Kind of a weird goof-up if that was the case.
I can't believe that TV stations don't care if anyone watches infomercials, or not! That's like a movie theater showing 90 minutes of blank film without any concern if anyone will see it! These people shouldn't be allowed to run TV stations! they should be in marketing sales! God, i hate society!
OMG...I should have waited to post. This brought back so many memories (and was that Greg Gagne's voice for channel 9 ?) I loved the Tom & Jerry Comedy show. Always watched it. Damn I'm old. AWA rules!!
Pretty sure that was from "Matterhorn Droopy". Droopy was training to be a rescue dog. The ending shot was of Droopy rescuing Slick Wolf from under a large pile of snow caused by an avalanche that Slick himself created and intended for Droopy.
I have a friend who actually liked Filmation's 'Tom & Jerry' show, but i would tell him that real animation fans who like the original shorts tend to dismiss that show.
In addition to the corporate buyouts, another factor in this is Peggy Charren pushing for 'the children's television act'. This required that stations air 3 hours of 'educational' programing every week. Plus, So much of syndicated television is so regulated that cartoon producers have been migrating to cable. Also, kids are distracted with DVDs, computers, videogames, and ipods.
If it wasnt for the disney afternoon, Afternoon cartoon shows either would've been gone or reduced to a 2 hour block. Stations would've made more money by airing infomercials during and after the schooldays
WONDERFUL. There's even Daws Butler, the voice of Yogi Bear, promoting the show on "Channel 9" rather than "this station"! TV was quite a personal experience back then...
Money. The only real reason. Due to various idiotic rulings by the FCC, kids programming is virtually unprofitable. Add to that the fact that all the classic cartoons are owned by various cable networks that never really run them, kids are totally deprived of classic cartoons. Or any cartoons for that matter.
Because of one thing: money. It's an easy way for stations to make a quick buck, selling chunks of time for infomercials. The stations don't care if anyone actually watches them, as long as they keep the money coming. TV is in such a sad state these days.
Thank you for this! The 80's were the best time to be a kid. I miss the old KMSP.
BTW...the spokesman for the Boys & Girls Club looks like Dr. Evil!

More local TV stations need to be more like this. Not the sleazy talk show, infomercial cesspool they've become in recent years.

i think almost all VCRs have the blue screen, when not tuned to a channel, and display "PLAY" was also pretty standard.

Why do stations keep airing infomercials nowadays? It's a big fat waste of airtime! Instead, there should be comedies, cartoons, or at least a movie.
