your laughing at her is telling her you don't care about her feelings. The best you could do is acknowledge her upset and say, "sorry you feel so upset and angry. Until you calm down there isn't much we can do." Instead you make her feel worse by demonstrating that her hurt is funny to you! poor little kid! whether you like it or not it is a real feeling for her. it's not a joke. she IS upset. YES she's over reacting but that's what kids do. let her know you understand her feelings.

to add to that - slamming on the brakes and having an accident are two TOTALLY different things. How ever much your child weighs multiplied by the speed you are traveling at impact is the restraining force - in other words...the amount of pressure it takes to hold your child back. 20 lbs X 30 mph = 600 lbs of restraining force..... if the clip is too low - the child could come out the top......
