They did find him doping - he tested positive for R-EPO during the 1999 TdeF. The samples were retrospectively tested when a R-EPO test was developed and his samples were positive 6 times during the race. He wasn't suspended as the tests were for research purposes only.

I can't say whether he doped or didn't because like all of you I don't know the man and I wasn't there. What I know is that he's the most tested athlete out there and people are drooling at the thought of shouting a positive result from the mountain tops - that hasn't happened.
