In the end credits: "The events, characters, and businesses depicted in this photoplay are fictitious. Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, or to actual events or businesses is purely coincidental."
I remember my first barel, summer 92. is difficult to describe a sunset inside the crest. More difficult is to describe what I felt. Impossible for me is not to believe that a creator for all this exists.
@2011TREADSTONE i would not say that, imagine a digitally young arnold schwarzenegger playing johnny utah aside of steve buscemi as the wise yet criminal mentor of the waves.
@mstigerlilyrocks But, do you understand the respect the ocean commands of anyone who enters upon its domain? That's a question as equally as important as understanding the spirituality of the ocean. The ocean can give so much, show you so much but it can also take it all away if you don't respect her and understand her.
@PaisleyPlace Sure do, dude. I have been beaten down by the ocean more times than I care to admit. She is a dangerous mistress - can sure put you in your place when you least expect it. Still, I feel like I am in the womb of Mother Earth when I am in her embrace. There is a peace only the sea with the waves can bring me. Just wish I was a better board surfer :)
@mstigerlilyrocks I'm no good on the boards, better at diving (tank & free-diving) and long-distance swimming or rather I was until Lupus SLE & Sjogren's came into my life. It was like I was born in the water, came from it somehow & I can't sleep worth a damn anywhere but on the water. I miss the life but my body can't take the damage anymore but I will always live close enough to get to her in a couple hours ride. Can't imagine anything else. Too many yrs w/her I guess :)
John Philbin (Nathanial) was also in North Shore 1986 (Turtle) with Laird Hamilton (Lance Burkhart) who is married to Gabrielle Reece, an American professional volleyball player. Philbin says: "I had been a surfer all my life and came to Hawaii as a teenager to surf Pipeline. I loved it so I wanted to do it so bad I auditioned for the movie seven times.
He is also an instructor who trained Kate Bosworth for Blue Crush movie
i thought i was alone, so good to see others got this like i did. I loved this from the first time i watched it and have never forgotten how i felt. sounds weird but this was so spiritual. shame it took me 14 years to actually get onto a surf board! never too late though.
Why was this film a flop? One of the best films ever made...Films are garbage these days if thats what you can call them...Just animated computer garbage!
@u2mack4444 except for the fact that Keanu basically ruined it for everyone. literally. They were robbing banks never killed anyone, living life to the fullest. Keanu shows up gets everyone killed and then QUITS???? What a fucking Schumuck of a cop.
But yes, it's one of my favorite if not my favorite movie of all time.
the freedom of surfing reminds me of the spiritual freedom,i have many out of body experiences and surfing for me is what get closer to the spiritual reality
This movie made an entire generation dream
It was huge, and very, i mean VERY cool for that time.
Nothing ever got closed to it those days.

@DonBoby he is dead, but schwarzenegger is still alive, he can act and speak his role and after this his figure get rejuvenated by means of cgi.
