  • Russia: ну что американцы, видите какие мы русские плохие ))

человек сделал доброе дело, а живет небогато

у вас бы за такой поступок, человека каждый день по ТВ показывали и денег бы дали много

это не русские плохие, это плохие руководители страны

English:Well, that Americans can see what we are Russian bad))

people did good work, and live a wealthy life

you have for such an act, a man every day on TV and showed a lot of money to give

Russian is not bad, it's bad leaders of the country

  • this guy is not popular cause fcking media didn't mention anything about him.... but they did to justin bieber

  • I'm sure if it was an American soldier, he would be world famous...

  • This story could have been called 'Soviet glitch nearly destroys planet.' But you know RT: they're full of Soviet nostalgia; it helps them keep their government jobs.

  • @ChicagoProdigy

Sort of how the atomic bombs nearly destroyed Japan?

  • damn.. we got justin bieber fan.

  • true HERO... fuck justin bieber LOL.

  • thank you Mr.Petrov for probably assuring my birth

  • thank you petrov

  • 9gag.. :? :)

  • The common sense Prevailed, thanks to a soldier with the capacity to analyze and to reason beyond his orders.

  • Thats good to know a fuking COMPUTER ERROR could've caused countless deaths. I wonder what else computer errors can cause.

  • The movie The Day After was loosely based on this incident . Whether you believe this one action averted our existences or not the fact remains his decision greatly reduced the chance of the unthinkable happening. God was working through this man that day as some outside force screwed up their systems and made it seem as though the U.S. had incoming missiles. A extremely rare storm current or some thing attempting to rid human beings from this planet?

  • The saddest thing about this is our leaders would allow such a planetwide catastrophe to develop in the first place. How many wrong decisions are there before some guy's wrong call blows up the world? Surely many many decisions made very very stupidly. I hate to think what would have happened if Petrov had been in a bad mood that morning...

  • @intermender You said it, and why did they even detect missles? was it common to detect things that were not even actually there??? that's not very convenient when dealing with world altering war weps..... no one cares to explain that part to humanity??? honestly WTF!

  • Easily one of these most important moments in Human history. He is a true hero. Give the man a million dollars

  • The english countries write his name "Stanislav Yevgrafovich Petrov", in Europe "Stanislaw Jewgrafowitsch Petrow", Russian: Станислав Евграфович Петров.

Only with the complete name you'll find further information.

  • thank you for allowing me to live past the age of 4!

  • LTC Petrov deserves a Nobel Peace Prize WAY more than OBAMA! If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have lived to be five years old! THANK YOU, Mr. Petrov!

  • @hrdknox2000

Sorry. Petrov is an athlete, his name is Stanislaw Jewgrafowitsch Petrow.

  • @AngelAtomiseur Wow! Didn't know his whole name, or even how to say it correctly. Thanks for the post. I feel certain others will be interested to know this.

  • @hrdknox2000

Thanks for the response - I was watching a report on arte 9 months ago - nobody ever told me about it.

  • THANK YOU MR PETROV. This should be on the school curriculum.

Send me you your bank account details, I have something for you.

  • That idiot could have ignored a legitimate strike and left America without mutual destruction.

  • @promdawg

mutual destruction doesn't even make sense. There is nothing to be gained from pushing the button.

Why nuke the other half of the world, if your half is going to be uninhabitable for many decades?

You simply can't win a nuclear war. U can only save your own skin.

  • 3 people wanted nuclear war

to happen on September 26th, 1983

  • Lt. Colonel petrov thank you for allowing me born 4 years later

  • Comment removed

  • He is a wise man who is a real hero thanks from Canada.

  • I also heard of that guy some years ago ... What a hero of human kind ! thank you so much !!!! the world needs more people like him !

  • Lt. Colonel Petrov thank you for allowing me to be born 8 years later with your corageous actions.

  • Thank God that man keep his cool,, and used his brain, the whole world needs more officers, hell people like that. Think, just don't follow orders like a commie.

  • My Hero, Thank you,Thank you, thank you Col petrov, poetic justice, A Russian saved the world, xoxoxoxoxoxoxox will always remember your name.

  • Listen people! There would not have been armageddon if Russia, Cuba, and the US got into a nuclear war. Or at least not in the cold war! It wouldn't even be the end of America if Russia shot all their nuclear missiles at the US!

  • @ObamaIsMaBabyDaddy yea it would because of radiation and nuclear winter

  • This man needs to be recognized by the world as a hero.

  • This man is a Hero! thank very much...he saved the wolrd

  • There is something I do not understand. As can be possible for a man literally has saved humanity from destruction has neither a fucking monument. Everyone owes his life to this man!

  • @quelo007 yeah he deserves more than a block of stone that says thank you, He deserves a statue and Lotso money

  • Untill now usa and russia are in peace hope this continue

  • Stanislav Petrov, man who save world. But boss was no happy, told Stanislav after - In Soviet Russia, you launch nuke first, question system reliability later.

  • Seriously annoying times. They're launching nukes! No, wait they don't - If I was living then I've probably said ''Fuck that! Star the show or GTFO. Decide already!"

  • In Soviet Russia, you save the world by not following the rules.

  • Comment removed

  • cold war is not dead !!!

    russia hate the west

  • @shaharmos

You maybe young so you don't understand - it's other way around. Indoctrinated "west" hates Russia. That's the sad truth.

  • @grayxy

    what do you mean ?

  • This story has evolved considerably from the first versions. Initially it was reported that 10 MIRVs had been launched from the USA, that is 70 Nuke warheads, We were told that Andropov had authotised a full-scale retaliation. Stanislav Petrov, we were told, reported a systems error, with only five minutes left to Doomsday, where missile launch would be entirely clockwork, and beyond human recall. Quite a different tale to the one told here!

  • I feel no shame in saying, I love you Stanislav Petrov. I probably wouldn't of even been born if it wasn't for him.

  • This man may have made the single most important decision in world history. Imagine if it would have been different? Just imagine millions of deaths on a global scale being triggered in just a few hours. Its chilling to even think of it.

  • Mr. Stanslav, thanks for letting me experience Tuesday, September 27, 1983

  • @telecom79 and probably all the days after that one :)

  • What a horrendous waste of resources that entire cold war hoax turned out to be.

  • Mildly interesting, but generally just overblown tripe. Credit the gent with using some common sense and judgment in correctly squelching a suspicious warning, but with saving the woirld? Hardly. There is no way the Soviets would have launched based on a single uncorroborated indication.

  • "The most important footnote of cold war history" ? Or indeed perhaps the history of humanity no?

Stanislav Petrov you've got my respect brother. Hopefully one day the Russian government will stop being embarrassed about having such a hero.

  • I love how everybody hates the states but they still remain arrogant.

  • I agree. Americans kill/bomb first and ask questions later

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH Mr. PETROV for saving the future of human kind !!! May god bless your and your family for ever !

  • This is when we had a CHIMP LOVING IDIOT IN THE WHITE HOUSE! This fool should have been the clean up boy at the ZOO instead of RUNNING IT...REAGAN I"M SO GLAD YOUR STUPID LOOKING FACE IS GONE FROM THIS PLANET YOU"LL NEVER KNOW?

  • thank you petrov. for saving the world.... by defying military protocall

thank you british sniper,, who,, didn't shoot George Washington in back, despite having a clear shot.

thank you woman vietcong soldier, chu chi, for not shooting the marine you where aiming at,, he was holding a picture of his family,, he was weeping..

    it was christmas.. thank you..

thank you all for risking court martial and hanging,, to do what your conscience told you....

  • @usastrikefromspace1 Omg that's like the most retarded comment EVER!

  • @usastrikefromspace1 dude are you fucking stupid?! do you know what a nuclear war would do to the fucking plant? even if you launched all those 10000 nukes at russian in about 5-10 year all that nuclear fallout would of spread around the whole fucking world and "uncle sam" would of been getting ass fucked by the nukes he launched himself and all you ignorant inbred redneck dumbshits would of died on your own porches drinking your own fucking irradiated water. Think before you act!

  • @usastrikefromspace1

stupid yank, it just ur fucking dream. if usa start the nuclear war we all will die. the whole planet, because russia still has dead hand - doomsday device. so stop to dream fucking moron.

  • Sounds like the movie 'War Games' which came out in 1983 also. Hmm coincidence?

  • @CaptainTripsz wargames were inspired by a events in NORAD, as described by a senator who was on a visit there and claimed that system fault had given an attack warning, and ones it was confirmed that it was not an exercise, confusion and panic broke out.

  • @RmanDC So around the same time period both sides had similar false positives? Now thats an interesting fact. Guess we should be lucky we arent all glowing in the dark today.

  • Men were in charge back then Now feminized men and women are in charge. See what happens next....

  • lulz i love how the hardcore freedom fighters of America suck the dick of a Russian news program... well sort of news..... well not really...... ok its not lol

  • "just doing his job"? lol, no he wasnt! thats how we were all spared!

-lol, it was a "War Games" scenario but on the Russian's side.

  • @dboy11368 It went against the military docturne (have faith bro hahaha yeah right)

    he is a hero.

I hate how history looks over people like him.

  • Israel is the great satan, and that makes the US the great satan as well because Israel wouldn't exist if we didn't pay all their bills. Makes us look bad to the rest of the world. Makes the people of Israel look bad too because they're just pawns like the rest of us in the chess game of setting up a one world government.

  • "Israel ... makes us look bad to the rest of the world."

This is an understatement when they try to make it look like America did 9/11 and admit, on national TV, they knew in advance about the attack.

  • As the story goes, after the first warning, Petrov had the staff run diagnostics on all systems. In the time they took to check, the system computed that the targets are real but are not bound for USSR

Even thou his job was to report, and pass on the decision making to the kremlin. The time they took to analyse the situation was crucial for the system to compute that targets being tracked are not hostile

A lot of responsibility, considering that they would need at least 15 min spare to retaliate

  • Stanislav Petrov truly IS A HERO! The United States & Russia owes much to him & his calm thinking!!!!

  • @colliertng so true old son,so very true... he used his brain!

  • @colliertng so do the ENTIRE WORLD !!! Stanislav for President of Russia, a real man

  • @ITILII, I think that he would be a Good President for Russia!

  • Good grief! I can't blame Petrov for being reluctant to fire the nukes. He is a hero!

  • A Soviet hero. Interestingly, the Cuban missile crisis of 1962 is also when JFK said that "Soviet Union just won the Cold War" to his colleagues (source -- "The 13th Version" documentary about JFK assassination).

  • daam anybody else get goosbumps when you think how close he could have been to pressin dat button? i think this man should be given a billion dollars and his own private country i think we owe him :/

  • wooow the guy should be paid by the UN and buy him new house or something

  • @HerroHerrar more then that. he should have an island in his honour. It's beyond me why we don't honour people like this more. He should be a world hero. He did something very few people are capable of doing: breaking the rules when your conscience says the rules need to be broken.

  • @UnoRaza, Absolutley. They get billions of American tax dollars, not in humanitarian AID, but in military funds. That money should go to Americans.

  • @UnoRaza because they had nuclear weapons since the 70's

  • @UnoRaza israel should be disarmed and its territory should be given back to arab countries

  • @UnoRaza I totally agree. They get 3.2 billion dollars a year of our taxes (U.S.A.)

  • Reminiscent of the scene in Watchmen until they figured it was Manhattan style bombs

  • discovery made a documentary on this.. it explains it pretty good

  • This was actually a Ufo's and the were five radar blips not One like they just said Russia's still not telling the truth

  • Awsome, imagine the tensety at that moment.

  • Smart guy.

  • Well he should have reported it ... And They can chek if it was Fake ....

trough multiple radars ,,, in duferent locations ...

20 minutes are enough for the military to do that ...

  • @HK379

    right now... maybe that's true...

but back then, they might've launched them..

  • @darkdan4ever

Well if it was true .. If the misaal was real , than they probably should have .

  • @HK379 If it had been me, I would have done the same thing. All the innocent people in Russia and the US do not deserve to die because some elites might lose power or profits. I would not rely on the brass to make the right decision. Well, I think that's what I would do . . . who knows . . .

  • @doverlin

Well ... its not just "elites " there is no such thing... in soviet Union ...every one is on their post .....in the fight against capitalism and fashism ...

  • Wait this happened in 1983 didn't the Cuban Missile Crisis happen in the 60's RT get your facts right!

  • @mpr1985

    The Cold War 194791

  • @mpr1985 they said they were closer to launching than the cuban missle crissis watch the whole video. he was given an award.

  • WTF! I was just reading about this on wikipedia, and then it pops up on my subscriptions! Weird stuff....

  • WRONG he just delayed it.

  • In the US, they practice random drills where the guys in the bunker never know if it is real or not. The guys in the bunkers followed orders and ended the world. But don't worry, the elites will be tucked away in underground fortresses capable of sustaining life for many years.

  • @doverlin I think those are different from a couple random, out of nowhere missiles.

  • Let this be a lesson to all military . . . it is OK to disobey stupid orders when necessary. Don't be a robot, think for yourselves at all times.

  • @doverlin

    Quite right.

  • Wow interesting. So there was no impact of any rocket? Maybe it was a UFO?

  • @14842 It was probably the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

    Praise his noodly ways. Ramen.

  • @DackIsBack LMAO!!

  • @DackIsBack uhu lol.

  • @14842

    Computer fault I would think.

  • WoW. If he did that today in the U.S then they would have tortured him and then imprisoned him indefinitely and possibly without trial.

  • @bonzaibb12 Uh, no? O.o

  • Title should read, "Soviet officer saves world from computer glitch"

  • @jreed136 How you know maybe there was a real rocket and a huge cover up.. Americans where very angry at the Cuba island thing. I bet there is more to this story some bluff poker stuff Im sure.

  • @14842 Why would the Russians cover up the Americans attacking them?

That would have been perfect justification for all out war. The Russians could have played the victims against the American aggressors.

But that didn't happen. Russia had no reason to cover it up.

  • @ZKY2

Russia doesn't have to play victim, as she has been the victim of American and West European aggression countless times over the past 200 years.

  • Read about this guy a few weeks back. If it was american Im sure were already dead.

  • @stonewindimmortal Doubtful.

  • @jreed136 I doubt it

  • @stonewindimmortal It's stupendously ignorant to think that Americans never do the right thing.

I imagine crap like this happened with America too and guess what! We're still here.

  • @stonewindimmortal Could you make an argument supporting your accusation? The US led the world during the cold war in robust, redundant, safety systems (both mechanical, electric, and social) preventing intentional or accidental detonation of nuclear arms. The information known publically now and then certainly seems to demonstrate the US had reasonable provisions to prevent such things. The fact is that this fault was an easily forseeable error that should have been addressed but wasn't.

  • @jjjooommm222 u want to say theat america is our protector with all this nukes and chemical weapons or killing in the name of god let me remind you god told me to begin war in irak to search fo nuclear weapons and what did they find nothing nothing but oil

  • @stonewindimmortal I think to say that is a little unfair. I know Americans can be annoying arrogant bastards sometimes, but of all the countries with nukes I'd trust them as much if not a little more with theirs. Not with conventional weapons though obviously, they'll bomb the shit out of anything lol

  • @niemanickurwa I'm inclined to agree with you, but even as we age now history's being rewritten in some many ways. Now the Cold War is apparently an all out American aggressive action, and has nothing to do with the consistent communist expansion until the fall of the Berlin Wall. Apparently using nukes to avoid a mainland invasion of Japan was evil for America to do. History will be simple in a few decades- America caused and did everything bad.

  • @niemanickurwa Imagine if America, no longer just European Jews or various ethnic groups, but if an entire country was a scapegoat for the world's problems.

  • @stonewindimmortal I wouldn't be so sure. There was a similar incident in 1979 at the NORAD complex in Colorado when a training simulation caused mass hysteria until several officers and technicians correctly identified the "attack" as false. In a sense both countries had their share.

  • @Yuhi33 some Higher Ups at least knew something was wrong. This guy had a lone decision to make

  • @matrix49A suck me

  • @stonewindimmortal "If it was american Im sure were already dead."

You'd be wrong about that. False missile attack alarms occurred a few times on both sides. None of them led to nuclear war.
