It's called "AGC" which stands for automatic gain control. Basically it's supposed to do something fancy with the volume levels. Try using the mic with and without AGC and see which sounds better!
It is! My location happens to be right beside an exrtemely busy road, plus there's cooking going on in the kitchen, which isn't too far off, so all that gets picked up as well. I must say it'll have been much worse with other mics I used.
Oh, and another thing, this mic is extremely sensetive on trebles (notice that's what all the noise manifests as) - Nowadays when I use the mic, I EQ it towards the bassy side, so the background noise becomes far less noticable.
Sorry, but I mentioned quite a few problems! Was it about the distortion? If it was you just need to turn off AGC. Right click your volume icon in the system tray, select recording devices. Pick the u3 in the list and open properties. Go through the tabs, there should be a tab with a check box labelled "AGC". Uncheck that.
Thanks! To be honest I didn't do that mic a justice in this video. If you want to hear the audio I can get out of it now, take a look at my more recent videos! Cheers =)
@lcc0612 Yea, and I heard its a one track microphone and not a stereo one, is that true? and I would recommend Adobe Audition for noise reduction more than Audacity.
I Had This Microphone For About 5 Months. It Worked Real Great! But After Those 5 Months. Inside The Microphone The USB Plug Broke. I Dont Know How. But It Just Broke. Wires Broke And U Cant Put Back Together. Now I Have To Order Another One,
In fact, recording of audio and video was done seperately for me. I set the Vado (my camera) and Audacity recording at seperate times. I have to synchronise audio and video manually.
If you're recording with a webcam, check to see if your program allows you to set the audio source. If so, then you may be able to record directly from your mic while getting video from your webcam.
Yeah, the u37 is in "gold". CAD outfits alot of their mics with a "gold" color scheme. Size & convenience are it's strong suits, but it only shines in the hands of an experienced user...
How much noise reduction did you apply to your audio? Artifacts seem to be less of a problem for me when using the latest version of Audacity...
Thanks for your comment! Now that you mention it, that's why I didnt buy the U37, I was like, "Gold? That's gonna look strange on my desk!"
I work it pretty well now, I guess it's about getting used to it!
I applied the lowest possible amount of noise reduction. Going higher is just too artifacty! I'm using Audacity 1.2.6 (the stable one), that's probably why...
i would say that you should get a pop filter, but i don't really hear any popping noise in the backround. also, i wouldn't really say you get better quality from condenser mics than dynamic ones. but anyway, nice video.
Thanks for you comment. There were a few pops in this one, but I managed to sorta fix them in postprocessing.
As for saying that condensers sound better, it's a generalization in a way, but I do find that it's very hard to get good overall frequency response with dynamic mics, unless you're using something really expensive, which is of course beyond my budget.
what is the hidden setting

@cherrieislove24
There shouldn't be a problem with windows 7. What do you mean by "not seeing any difference"? Maybe you haven't selected the correct mic?

Is It Possible To Record With This Mic While Hearin Music In The Headphones ?
iBamBamBall 1 year ago
@iBamBamBall
Yes but because this is a USB mic, there will be a short delay between the actual sound being made, and the sound being played back.

@lcc0612 Awh Well I Have The Cad U37 And I use Audicity Bt Wen I Plug In My Usb I Cant Hear The Music In The Backgrund ? Wat Do I Do ?

@iBamBamBall
Oh! For some reason, the mic is recognised as an output device which is wrong.
Right click the sound icon in your system tray, click "Playback Devices". Click "Speakers" and click "Set Default".

@MrHatingBoy
Yes, that's right - This mic is mono. Of course, if you record in stereo it just duplicates the same track for each side.
I've already found some nice techniques for reducing noise, so it's not so much of an issue anymore.

That's unfortunate. Certainly equipment like this requires very delicate handling. I don't even shift it off my table unless I have to.

hi I've got a question.
how do you record with audacity using the u37 and record the video at the same time? thank you.

Hello, very good question there!

Lol dude i was pretty disappointed when i got this too.
Btw, by post-production settings what do you mean? are you referring to those in Audacity?
haxninetyfour 1 year ago
@haxninetyfour
Bearing in mind I am no longer disappointed with this mic, because I can make it sound pretty good now!
And yes, I'm referring to editing in audacity - That gets rid of much of the problems.
If you like, you can look for a video on my channel called "Making the Best of Your Condenser Mic", which mentions some of these editing techniques

Correction: It's called "Improve Your Condenser Mic Performance", sorry about that.
