The Sylvers III is a good album but didn't have nothing on those first 2 classic albums. You can feel them kind of losing that soulful harmony style they had down so tight. This album had a few mediocre tracks on it.
As I Sated earlier, I never knew the Sylvers were ever this funky. I mean that seventies kind of funky with that hippie feel. Maybe the late seventies albums were created to compete with the jacksons.
@willowseeker I would say that Showcase and Something Special were to compete, but after that, no. New Horizons and Forever Yours, IMO, were closer to the first three in terms of artistry and style, just done with a late 70s tone. There's not a bad song on either of those albums....Same for Concept in 1981.
OMG! I haven't heard this album since forever! I can't possibly be this old. I remember going to Sylvers concerts and screaming so hard and long that I didn't have a voice when I got home. I was madly in love with Edmund Sylvers (R.I.P.). These songs bring back so many wonderful memories for me. To all the people posting these gems on youtube, thank you so much. It has inspired me to pull out all my albums, dust them off and start playing them. I love it!
when i first heard "boogie Fever i thought they had just came out now in 09 when i discovered you tube i seen that they had came out with earlier albums (and i am old ) never heard them on the radio in ga
Heyroz how about posting Love over mind & This shall pass away. Since I;ve discovered these classics I;ve been trying to buy these albums lets just saY IMPOSSIBLE!!!!! Old school Sylvers is way better than their more popular years. . . . .
Seems like MGM/Pride gave the group more creative freedom. The sound was far more mature and complex than the bubblegum soul that they recorded for CEMA/Capital. They had more hits in the late '70's but I believe this was a step back and Leon's creativity suffered until he began writing/producing/arranging/performing on the Solar label with The Whispers, Shalamar and his group Dynasty.
I AGREE!! when THE SYLVERS left PRIDE/MGM and went to CAPITOL they got caught up in the major label hoopla where they whisper in artists ears and have them compromise their artistic creative control. they achieved fame and fortune at CAPITOL,CASABLANCA,and SOLAR,but they left their soulfulness at PRIDE/MGM!!
I'm a harmony specialist and i like the smooth groove when the songs are in a stylistic like matter--see i have BILLY BUTLER & INFINITY on Pride, but i forgot all about this LP---The Sylvers almost but you in mind of the 5 Stairsteps ya'll know OOH CHILD but the music is smooth and great engineering on tracks--i'm enjoy all the first 3 albums thanks ROZ for posting these albums
Thank GOD i now have all 3 albums that i bidded on ebay the first album i paid 38 dollars then sylersII album i paid 162 dollars and their III album i paid 122 dollars and it was still sealed so now ya'll can't tell me NOTHING
Congratulation! I still have to find the first one. I found the second one about 15 years ago for $3.00 in a used record store, I got lucky on that one. But the third I paid $62.00. They're all worth it!
I am really out of words.... this album is so good makes me wonder how much stuff like this is just out there on someone's shelf. Who produced this album?

Definitely better than the Jackson 5. They wrote and helped produce their own music!

yeah, thanks for posting their stuff up, they don't get enough credit for writing and performing great songs.

Behind The Jacksons and DeBarge, but in front of the Jets, Five Star, and The Gap Band, is the best R&B family act!

Their best records were 1, 11 and 111. Afer that they got too commercial, musically and lyrically. These records are GREAT!!!!

The FUNKEST of the first three...Definitely did NOT sould like 1974...AWESOME...only wish the girls got ONE song for them.

Hey! You know you are right! They didn't have Charmaine vocals on this LP.
heyroz27 4 years ago
I would have LOVED for Olan to get ONE solo also...her deeper alto would have been good for the sound they were going for on this lp.
MsTexas73 4 years ago
Yeah you are so right. I would have love to hear it.
