  • I LOVE that chord at 0:21!

  • where can i find this sheet music? i cant find it anywhere!!!

  • Excellent musicians, but poor audio and camera work. These guys need to go to a studio and do a professional recording. Canadian Brass, look out !!!

  • Can someone PLEASE direct me to some sheet music for this song.

  • I don't know what you guys are talking about. That pedal D was too crass and distasteful. It's really not all that impressive of a note either. Bass Bone = fail for not being able to control the volume of his pedal tones

  • @iboneic13 I'm also a bass trombonist and I also played this piece. It's very hard for tuning, rythm and stamina as well. The pedal D sounds to you "crass and distasteful" as you say maybe because there is another D an octave above in 3rd trombone. But you probably don't hear that. These guys are wonderful players each one of them or toghether. Who are you, when you can say something like that?!

  • @SkweerookL I'm a bass trombonist as well, who has also played this piece. I stand by my statement; that is distasteful playing. Pedal tones aren't supposed to sound like chainsaws, especially when there's a "d" the octave above. If the D the octave above is the crass one (which I doubt) then shame on him for blasting. Playing with bad tone is not impressive to me.

  • @iboneic13 perhaps you are mistaking distortion introduced by the recording quality (lack there of) for bad tone, as far as I can tell his tone is fine. I've played Tuba for quite a few years and play Bass Trombone as well, so low notes on brass are something I'm both familiar with and fond of. I'm also a regular and frequent listener to many recordings containing low brass work and I have found many times that the recording will misrepresent what low instruments actually sounded like live.

  • @iboneic13 There is a D one octave above that pedal D in the 3rd trombone part that makes it sound that way. I was thinking the same thing until I ordered this piece and played it (I play Bass Bone). It is quite difficult to control the volume and tone of a pedal especially when you are looking for just the right amount of edge.

  • @badoc10 If you practice you pedal tones every day, it shouldn't be hard to control volume or tone. Study the Snedicor Tuba Book. Best thing you can do for your low register. Blasting is not impressive...control is

  • @iboneic13 I agree, as anyone can blast.

  • Compare this with Canadian Brass: the trumpets sound small and the french horn is in a different county. This all-trombone version has a power and raw drama that not even the organ setting can match. Who would have thought a piece conceived for keyboard could sound so impressive on trombone, of all things?

  • This gives me chills every time I hear it! Perhaps the best rendition on brass I've heard! Tops Canadian Brass!

  • @johnsbergsma Have you heard the German Brass version?

  • Rapture!

  • no words can describe how awesome this is :'D

  • I really can't say this enough, what makes this works is how well this group blends timbres. I've heard several recordings of this by trombone ensembles of various sizes, and that ability makes this one the best. Granted, I wouldn't mind seeing the Blair Witch Project handi-cam thing go.

  • i cannot just believe what happend. yu gues are beast. im a horn player and i am saying HOLY balls :) good job!! u definatly sounded like an organ!

  • @Paintballer6432 Better than the organ!

  • Yeah bass bone!

  • bullshit

  • @verdantine erm...not necessarily.

I PERSONALLY know a guy who, when he was 17, could nail false pedal tones on a peashooter, and my other friend can pick out pedal D on his bass bone, and he's only 16.

  • @pedropedaltones I bet that pedal d really sounds great...(jk) basically pedal c and down on a bass sound bad

  • @dusting12 Not necessarily. It depends on the context and the experience of who's playing it. It's hard to make it sound good, but it's possible.

  • Very nice pedal D, but, having heard a very nice recording on this site of this being played on a 214 rank organ, there are more places where I'd wished you played the pedal register.

  • ive mastered this bass trombone part...its an absolute blast to play

  • WOW!

  • holy trill!

  • You can get this at Warwick's Music

This is the exact arrangement, super fun!!!!

  • Where did you get the music ?!! Ive been looking all over like a mad man !

  • 5:10 DAMN I WISH I COULD TRILL LIKE THAT!!!!

  • @dsboneplayer87 practice your lip slurs man

  • 0:24 = Jaw in the basement.

  • Gyerekek ez nagyon ott van! egy kollága budapestről.

  • It must have originally been written for 4 trombones and then transposed to organ, right?

  • sounds really good, maybe get someone sober to handle the camera next time...

  • @colterino422 It's because he was too busy crapping his pants.

  • good arangment!

  • videos like this is why i love playin bass bone...i want this music...cuz i can hit those notes just as loud and clear all day!!

  • Is there any way to get the sheet music for this?

  • @CKRUG13 yes its toccata in fugue in d minor easy to find

  • @uwishuhaditvivid nad not easy to play ; )

  • @CKRUG13 yes, go to Hickey's ... I think it is Hickeys at least, on line. They have two arrangements, and it is surprisingly inexpensive.

  • Comment removed

  • @CKRUG13 But beware! The first and second parts are written in Tenor clef and range upwards to a high A (and above) and the bass part drops frequently to a pedal D!!!!

  • @CKRUG13 i can play both a high A and a pedal D on my tenor trombone with little difficulty, however playing a high A a alot might kill my chops.

  • @OMGedInStoresNearYou I'm going to assume that you have an F trigger...

  • @generalducttape I do... Hence my ability to play a pedal D.

  • Bass Bone is incredible. Trills ae good. I'm always impressed by lip trills. And double-tonguing. And tone. Great job.

  • I have to just close my eyes and listen. The constant moving of the camera and in and out zooms is making me seasick!!!

  • The Trombone; Gods instrument

  • @ followmybaton1

They are professionals. they are not in America i believe.

  • csak így tovább...

  • Simply superb!! Four talents like that in one school (an assumption) is most unusual.

  • magnificat vos est

  • the shit :)

  • I really like these guys, especially the basstrombone player: awsome pedaltones mate!!

    Erwin

    The Netherlands

  • Wow, this is so great!

  • I don't have words to comment this. They must come from another planet. Awesome!!!!!!!

  • I love this song, im a freshman and i would really love to get a copy of the sheet music for the part but i dont know were to go to get it, my band director has it but he wont make copies of to give out, does anyone know were i can get it?

  • simply incredible, fantastic playing, for a guy like me who aspires to become a professional trombone player, this is very inspiring

  • Woah, 0:22 is hair raising.

  • i wish i can listen to that all day man lol. such force!

  • Excellent!

    The Great Masters of Trombone!

  • Very impressive, very tough to coordinate this. I've been lucky enough to perform this in a brass quintet, VERY challenging among the passing of parts between members.

  • I don't think the others see the little people audience! Destroy the non-believers!

  • amazing

  • Brilliant

  • I want to play that song, WHERE CAN I ORDER THAT MUSIC AND BY WHO ARRANGE THE SONG?

  • I love that chord at 6:55. It gives me chills!

  • im always playin this on keyboard/piano and what i love the most is the organ sound but this was just fuckin brilliant guys well done

  • Well done guys! Great trombone playing. You deserved more of an audience!

  • fucking awesome, guys!

  • Why aren't these guys famous?

  • good question

  • i know right?!

  • face has been melted. 5/5

  • Sooooooooo good. Just....damn

  • This is just incredible! I wish I could have been there live to witness this. It would probably have brought tears to my eyes. BRAVO!

  • This was great...but i thought the tempo was a little on the fast side. Still though. VERY GREAT JOB!

  • Holy Bass trombone!

  • HOLY SHeeT!!! TOO MUCH POWER!!!!

    this was FawCKING BADDASS!!!!!!!!

their power is over 900000 at that last chord!!!

  • amazing.

  • that is really awesome ! sounds amazing, low notes are incredible

  • 0:23 -BASS T-BONE!!!

  • Excellent!!!

You have to make a record of this piece! (...and a hire a new video guy!)

  • Good sound, but what a shitty camera operator.

  • Camera, stop moving!! great playing though

  • Listened to the whole thing and I am ADD. Made me smile. Never heard it done like this. I loved it.

  • 4 Guys & 4 horns at the top of my playlist for this Bach work!

    THANKS !

  • also.....the bass trombone player looks like Seth Macfarlane

  • But with talent.

  • OH MY FRICKING LORD!!!!! I pooped my pants almost!!! AMAZING! I closed my eyes and thought I was listening to a pipe organ!

  • please let me know of whatever kind of pipe organ sounds like this!

  • the kind that makes you poop your pants???

  • a trombone sounding pipe organ would definitely make me poop my pants

  • I am truly stunned! Great!

  • amazing !

absolutely love this version of the piece :)

    you did bach proud :)

  • great job

  • 2:35 gives me chills. AWESOME JOB!!

  • right on the money; 2:35. that bass trombonist is a hell of a player

  • The sackbut has been around since the renaissance, and the modern trombone is similar enough the sackbut that Bach would not have been very confused by it, other than perhaps wondering about the extra tubing or the increased size.

  • I'm in a Steel Drum Band at my school, and we played this. It was really fun. Everyone who heard it really enjoyed it, and they were surprised how good it sounded on the steel drum.

  • If only Bach was alive now. He would be happy with the guys playing the trombones.

  • Actually, Bach would be like, "What the fuck is that slidey thing?!!?"

  • yeah, probably. LOL. But the first slide trombone was made in the early 18th century when Bach was a little older. He lived until 1750- born in 1685. He was 65 when he died. He may have known what a slide trombone was. It's quite possible. I know that doesn't explain what it would be like if he was still alive or not. But just posting a fact.

    WHO KNOWS???

  • Are there any recordings available of these guys? Holy shit, this is nuts...I've not heard this arrangement played anywhere close to this clean!

  • VERY COOL!!!!

  • Im a Tenor Trombonist, even the tenor part sounds like it would hurt. lol. you gys are some of the best Tromboneists i hav ever heard

  • haha yeah that pedal d. whew

  • Who is playing the contrabass trombone?

  • way too fast.... but good

  • bravisimo

  • Man, the extreme bass notes are the best. It sounds like a lion roaring.

  • Wow this is absolutely amazing. Great job.

  • The ranges are positively incredible! First part runs from a D above high C down to a second line D (spends most of its time in Tenor clef, boys and girls) while the bass bone runs from F above the staff to a pedal D (the train sound so often discussed here). Fun piece, better felt than counted, trust me on this.

  • incredible

  • check out the momus trombone group

  • awesomw trill at 510

  • Wow ! Really good!:) Thanks for the posting!

  • fantastic! nice job, fellas, and i especially like the groovy britches worn by the principal LOL

  • Awesome !! Thanks for posting this.

  • 0:23 Most awesome chord ever!!

  • that's a diminished 7th chord, with a back ground D on the pedal

  • Badass

  • Wow that was compleatly amasing!

    and lol 1:08 train horn

  • That, friend, is a pedal D, and why a bass trombone is to be either respected or feared.

  • A bass bone is more likely to be feared and respected cause the ablity to hit note that is just amazing and scary at the same time.

  • 2:20 train sound

  • that train sound is a tritone

i think there pretty cool myself

  • wow you guys are really good. i hope i can get that good on trombone some day.

  • I enjoyed that so much!!!

  • To each of you I simple say BRAVO!!!!

  • i have a recording of this recorded by the London Symphony Brass Section. The Cathedral Brass played this. But to see a trombone quartet play a full brass piece is amazing. They must have really good chops and be really good players

  • aww that would be awesome if i could this arrangement.

  • Stupendous, THAT IS WHY THE TROMBONE IS THE BEST INSTRUMENT IN THE UNIVERSE cause if you that you can play a horn pic up a trombone and play something fast and see wht type of musician u are. Wonderful guys i appreciate your hard work.

  • RIGHT ON! TROMBONE IS THE BEST INSTRUMENT PERIOD. all those other instruments scoff at our Tbone, let them try it! one the hardest instruments to just pick up and play, but once you get good, you are awesome!

  • Nagyon nagyok vagyok!!! Ezt én soha nem fogom tudni eljátszani... :) Trombone forever!

  • Wonderful!!!!! Is fantastic!!!!! My congratulations!!!!!!!

  • bass bone rocks! he's got chop and lung. hot damn.

  • Dude I wish I was half this good on trombone... it makes me sad. my band director isn't even this good and when he plays it makes my heart melt... this is so awesome

  • bones pwn

  • Who did the arrangement?

  • super together!...the empty hall gives a nice echo

  • 0:23 - 0:24

OMG. I want and need to be able to hit that note.

Is that... a pedal D or so? Sounds so awesome.

  • yea that's a double pedal D it's not too hard, but to make it sound like that it takes some work I'm sure.

  • haha good catch. ya its a D

  • Do you have any clue as to what the best mouthpiece you should use for a trombone to get the best tone, and be able to play all the notes very well?

  • I like 5g for size. Are you talking about brands? If so I like the gold bach megatone ones. I think too many ppl use 6 and 1/2 al size. At least for large bore, 5g is better for tone.

  • i play on a bach 5g, but im looking into a megatone. a comparable mouthpiece to that is a schilke 51.

  • Lord and Par, it depends upon the horn and yourself. I play a Getzen, David Taylor, bass bone that I have had converted to the dual independent Thayer Valves. I play it open with a Monet BT-1L. Massive mouthpiece, but extremely flexible and the horn "speaks" in any register with solid authority that is almost a physical presence.

  • true. i play a conn 88H-O w/ a bach 5g. i have used the mouthpiece on a strad 50B bass horn and it still plays great.

  • I have talked with them. They took the Costa Rica version and amped it up a bit on their own. I don't have a firm quote, but it is available from them direct.

  • Respect!

    -Tuba Player!

  • Really unbelievable. Up to now i've only heard a brass version from Canadian Brass.

    But that beats everything!

  • Paul Berger is amazing on the 'bone! How 'bout it?

  • first rate chaps

  • that trill in the begining was orgasmic

  • anyone know the arrangement? pretty sure this isn't the costa rica arrangement because there is that big 1st trombone trill in the middle..

  • Excelente!!! de donde son?

  • bass trombone is a hauss.

  • Absolutely fantastic!

  • Killer arrangement!

  • WOW?That was just off the wall awesome. The bass bone player kicks ass.

  • Wow, that was amazing! They are so synchronized! And they make it sound so easy!

  • i so want to try this piece it seems cool. i played rondo from abdelazer on my tenor but this is incredible go BASS!!!

  • i agree sounds as low as that can easily get lost behind the shrill upper tenor range.
