Raleigh is becoming a hockey town, like it or not. That's why we're hosting the all-star game this year. The sport does it's job to not only bring the die-hard fans, but the casual fans or people who've never even been to a game and end up becoming fans. Hockey is here to stay in N.C.
if this were edmonton/vancouver/calgary/toronto/montreal/ottawa/boston/buffalo/or chicago it would be so much louder. seriously, this is about the same level as any of those teams winning one game let alone the cup.
@Oilerfan5 I know this is a late comment (lol), but up in that level, and I say this from experience, the sound doesn't travel as well. Not to mention this is now old phone technology. I can assure you, again, from experience, that the RBC Center was louder than any building I've ever been in - and I was at the Sabres 1997 first round win over Ottawa. That was after a few years of non-playoff appearances - and that was loud.
Hahahaha You guys are hilarous. Its all the team. CBC asked a few fans questions. Not one knew what half the rules of hockey are, or even went to a hockey before in their life.....
oliersrockflamessuck.... this ones for you... you are comparing 10 year franchise of the hurricanes which went to the finals twice in less than ten years to an over 20 year old franchise of the oilers... would hope than had won more than 1 cup u arrongant bastard give
the Hartford/Carolina franchise is the same age as the Oilers. they joined the NHL at the same time. the only thing that changed from the move to carolina was the name.
i know the exact feeling with this goal. wow. still brings tears to my eyes. what an amazing game and series (hopefully oiler fans can even admit this).
No one in that building sat down in Game 7. That is TRUE HOCKEY. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know just how great of a franchise we have down here in Carolina. And for you ignorants out there who think Raleigh (location of Hurricanes) and Charlotte (location of NASCAR racetrack) are even remotely close, suck it.
youd be suprised how hockey has stuck in the south. Ive played hockey since i was four now, and im remarkably good.. It stuck since my dad was the doctor for them up until our 2001 stanley cup loss to the red wings. Im headed up to massachusets for boarding highschool, and im ready to show some yankees how us southerners play hockey. :] Canes hockey forever!!!!
It's such a disgrace that Carolina won the cup.... A gaurantee half the people in that building don't even go to the games anymore.... Anytime a shitty southern team beats a canadian team it makes me sick since Canadian fans are actually real hockey fans... At least the Wings kicked Carolina's ass back in 02....
@firehawk97 Must suck that out of all of the NHL teams, only seven call Canada home. Not only that but the Nordiques couldn't win the Stanley Cup in Quebec, so they moved to the US and won two. Meanwhile, Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton, and Vancouver have all made the Cup finals and what's their record? 0-fer?
The talent may be from Canada but the power is in America.
Thank you for telling me something I already know, glad you agree the talent is from Canada. So once again, you're welcome. Enjoy our lifestyle, by all means. Reap our rewards.
@fatmanfiftythousand Ya because in Canada our attendance records are fucking perfect.
Because we always sell out games, even when our teams aren't anywhere near the playoffs.
Funny thing, I'm a Canes fan too. I own 3 jerseys, love Ward, Staal Scotty Walker (why did they trade him!?) and I can even say this.
I go for players not logos.
So thank you for giving us Winnepeg back! All games have successfully sold out. Something Atlanta hasn't done for years. Just wait, Phoenix and Florida are next;)
jesus people why can't you just be happy for us????? all you northerners think everyone in the south is a redneck who loves their nascar. why does hockey have to be just a northern thing?
Sorry, I just don't like seeing my game not being cared about down south.
If you take a look at the attendance for your games, you can plainly see that even with your team doing great, you can't even come close to selling out.
Blame the Canadiens. No Canadian team has ever won the Stanley Cup since they left the Forum. A canadian team didn't even make it to the finals this year. And yes, neither did the Canes before you say it.
last year, the hurricanes didnt even make the playoffs. not even close of gettin in a spot. in the opening night, they got their asses wupped by the devils. so much of "attempting" a repeat. edmonton should of won the cup instead

We averaged 17,000 this year. 15th in the league. Better than Anahiem and Nashville, both of which were at the top of the league throughout the year. Better than our Finals rivals in Edmonton, and better than the Pittsburgh Crosbys.
You averaged more because your arena is bigger. Obviously you're going to have more at a game if the arena is bigger. Rexall Place is what, 30-some years old?
And even if you had more, who cares? Give the people of Carolina their NASCAR and they're happy. Giving Carolina a hockey team was stupid. We need more teams in the North. Not one year wonders (Tampa, Carolina).
Yeah uh, you uh might not know what you're talking about if you say it wasn't loud in there. There were points (like when we scored that goal) where it was so loud my ears were killing me. Oh and the RBC Center is designed to reduce noise, not enhance it, so don't try that argument either.

ok, so johnny son-of-a-bitch over here wants to talk about 'Who's the loudest team in the NHL', but see, I don't see them calling you guys 'Rangeracs' or anything like that. And on top of that, have you even ever BEEN at a Canes game? Thats just sad. You need to go. Its a life-changing experience.
Stop whining buffalo, make all the excuses you want but.. you still lost. Any of ya'll who say it isn't loud obviously werent there. The home of the canes is the loudest in the NHL, uncontested. Announcer's and other teams agree, there arent too many arena's that can compare to the canes as far as loudness.
LMAO! Yeah, Carolina has been packing those fans in this year, what are you guys averaging...13k a game? Maybe 14k?
And HSBC was recorded (using a real decible meter, not some stupid cheerleader handheld one) during game 3 of our series at 137db...which was louder then anything I saw in Carolina. I was there...
Oh nice "we want the cup" chant halfway through the video...all five of you really got into it
Yep, and Buffalo sure was packing in fans when they were bottom feeders. According to Wikipedia, they averaged around 13,000 per game, so your beloved Sabres were in the same boat as the Canes. Now both teams are filling up with people because of their success last year.
