As an American, I admire the beauty of this aircraft. I don't care how much it costs, or what brand of quality management the manufacturer uses. It's simply a beautiful plane. Hey guys, I think A400 is a good bird. But Europeans need to do something about cost overruns. Their products don't attract so much attention compared to US is because they are a ripoff. The Typhoon is so expensive that had it been around $80 million apiece, many more countries would have been interested in it. Same goes for Rafale which is around $ 90 million.
Europeans must try to cut their costs because otherwise, they won't be able to sell a lot of their stuff.

It's called military logistic, one of the most common task is resupplying soldiers not sending tanks.

A person that really know something about the A400M will know it's something special. They built a cargo plane that is inferior to the C-17 and a giant airliner at a time where less and less giant airliners are being flown. US got the best military cargo than any nation. US C-5M Galaxy, C-17 Globemaster 3, & C-130J Super Hercules are better than other nation cargo planes. The C-17 Globemaster 3 can carry up to 70 tones =(70,000 kg) and take off short distance. There is no other aircraft can compete C-17. The C-17 can land on every environment like Desert, Jungle, Winter Snow, and airport in urban area.
The C-130J is better A400M. The A400M have problems with it's engines. @pgjr00 Yea, the C-17 can go 27% farther and lift more than 200% of the weight that the A400 can. Also the C-17 has considerably better performance characteristics, and cruises at a higher speed. Turbofans are more reliable than turboprops any day, even in bad conditions. Sorry bro, C-17 wins this one. Granted that they're not quite the same style of cargo aircraft, but the A400 isn't gonna take any orders from major militaries outside of Europe from the C-130 OR the C-17.

Hey guys, I think A400 is a good bird. But Europeans need to do something about cost overruns. Their products don't attract so much attention compared to US is because they are a ripoff. The Typhoon is so expensive that had it been around $80 million apiece, many more countries would have been interested in it. Same goes for Rafale which is around $ 90 million.
Europeans must try to cut their costs because otherwise, they won't be able to sell a lot of their stuff.

You don't feed a lot of the planet - most of your export is industrial feed to other OECD countries. The myth that the US feeds a lot of the planet is just that - a myth.

And always with this heavy payload ! Do you really think if there was a war they would send tank by tank with a plane? They use ships for this task. When it's for fast operational the payload is perfect because it mostly doesn't include tanks but other vehicles (aifv) or humvees weight between 6T-10T or10T-24T when there is a war they want send 1 tank but more so they will ship it. It's called military logistic, one of the most common task is resupplying soldiers not sending tanks.

Your always saying it's like that or that but the performance are totally different. (look it up before you start to talk) it's the only one with refuel capability in air and also can do aerial refueling, the propellers movement is different to the turn to each other and not like all other planes in the same direction, the engines prop are very powerfull, it can be used as a flying command post perfect for electronic warfare and much much more it's a low cost plane to.

Maybe a small military would order one of these but, with the C-17, and C-130 outthere what's the point? I honestly think that Airbus has screwed up with not only the A400, but with the A380 as well. They built a cargo plane that is inferior to the C-17 and a giant airliner at a time where less and less giant airliners are being flown. It's like Airbus is too caught up in trying to prove itself to Boeing rather than design airframes that best fit aviation industry today.

Even if it has many problems (just like the F-35 or the 787), it will be a very succefull cargo plane. EADS is even eyeing the US as a new export market for the A-400M

US got the best military cargo than any nation. US C-5M Galaxy, C-17 Globemaster 3, & C-130J Super Hercules are better than other nation cargo planes. The C-17 Globemaster 3 can carry up to 70 tones =(70,000 kg) and take off short distance. There is no other aircraft can compete C-17. The C-17 can land on every environment like Desert, Jungle, Winter Snow, and airport in urban area.

The C-17 can go further and lift more weight. And the A400M can land almost anywhere under severe weather conditions. The props are highly resistant to sand, dust and shit that can be deadly to jet engines.
For £300M I'd sooner have 3 A400M's than I can land at low risk almost anywhere than 2 C-17's.

@pgjr00 Yea, the C-17 can go 27% farther and lift more than 200% of the weight that the A400 can. Also the C-17 has considerably better performance characteristics, and cruises at a higher speed. Turbofans are more reliable than turboprops any day, even in bad conditions. Sorry bro, C-17 wins this one. Granted that they're not quite the same style of cargo aircraft, but the A400 isn't gonna take any orders from major militaries outside of Europe from the C-130 OR the C-17.

As for the C-130, yes the A-400M will take orders because it has better performances and is much more modern.
Most European countries are replacing their old C130 with the A-400M, and it's only a beginning. (Same thing as the A-330MRTT)
