These episodes are all included in Hasslein Books' reference publications - "Timeline of the Planet of the Apes" and the newly released "Lexicon of the Planet of the Apes".
@spikelilgirl In the later episodes there were technologically advanced human mutants living in the desert, much like in the second movie. Guess the gorillas were gearing up for a war with them. I watched these when I was a kid (Long time ago!).
madkid99...seeing this nearly made me say the word 'rosebud' before dying...I hadn't seen this since 1975. Like other posts here, the 1970's saturday cartoons were WAY superior to what's on today in terms of production values. Just look at the art form of it. These are hand sketches. The 1969-1970 Scooby Doo cartoons are similar in that way, too...
I've been enjoying these like heck...this was definitely one of the better animated shows of the day and very true to the spirit of the original story.
Is it just me or does this episode imply that humans devolved so that they were less intelligent and no specimens with blue eyes or blond hair?

Urko keeps saying humanoid. From the ape's point of view, it should be Siminoid.

Nice touch making the Apes more technically advanced, this would have made the original movies rather expensive.
Oilyrag1963 1 year ago
@Oilyrag1963 That's what they were like in the original novel and you guessed right that it wasn't done in the movies due to budget.

If the apes are the main species on the planet, why do they need war games?! Who are they at war with?

This brings back memories! I remember watching this when I was 12. Even the music was great.

this was always more in line with the original book where the apes had modern-ish machinery and weapons

Lame. Most of the movement in this is just mouth movement. Everything else is like still frames lol.

whtat do you expect? it was made in the mid-1970s
nodinitiative 2 years ago
Yeah. Ppl were probably lazy back then.
SylvrBlayd 2 years ago
Nah, animators were fine. Producers were cheap. Saturday morning cartoons were a business, so budget was boss.

That last comment the gorilla gave was a direct threat of rebellion, he should have been jailed for it thus helping out the human characters greatly.

It is rather disconcerting to have Fred Flintstone's voice come out of Urko, but I'm not complaining. Thank you so much for posting this.

I know what you mean. I'll never see old Fred in the same light again.

Urgo sounds like Fred Flintstone.
MattBL 3 years ago
Thats because the voice actor is Henry Corden, who was the second Fred Flintstone (the original Fred from the 60's was Alan Reed).

Um, surely you're not talking about higher animation production values. This is barely animated at best. Good atmosphere though.

I think the voice of Urko is also the voice of Fred Flinstone.
Thank you.Great to see seventies classic.
I'll probably buy the dvd now.

Awesome! Could there ever be another Saturday morning cartoon like this one? Anything other than a 30 minute toy ad doesn't have a chance.

this cartoon had more atmosphere and intense drama to it than most feature films
the star trek cartoon also ruled and was superior to the tv show
