lol...They spent 24 million on prayers? They paid for those prayers WTF...lol I cant believe a science test on prayer failed...surprise did you really expect anything else?
Interesting vid. Theists might not like the 'facts and figures' approach, but that's really their problem. Dislike them all you want, you can't change the numbers.
I was unaware of the study conducted about prayer, that you mentioned here. I knew of a smaller one, involving 1600 patients, with similar results, but nothing on the scale that you mentioned.
Typically, theists reject critical bits of logic and reasoning that reject their assumptions of god. It's actually kinda scary how brainwashed people can get.
I think it's scary too... not so much that they're brainwashed... but it makes you stop and wonder if you are also.
I'm a psych student, so I understand how schemas and the sort skew our perception of reality. But to see the extent to which that can happen is always amazing.
I can't help but think... if otherwise intelligent theists can be so damned wrong and be completely oblivious to it... then so can I. That scares me more than anything else
@sapperbloggs The funny thing is we aren't brainwashed. We did a comparative analysis of information, from many reliable institutions. Its pretty much the research of your belief. If you have never read the bible, or never thought of an atheist's point of view, you will never become atheist... Once you get a taste of knowledge, you simply cannot go back.
The issue with brainwashing, is that it's always someone else. Nobody will ever say that they are brainwashed... nobody will ever know if they are.
I agree with what you're saying, a standpoint based on research has to better than one based on blind faith. I just also don't go as far as to be certain that I am correct. As long as you allow the possibility of being wrong and be open to alternative ideas, you're unlikely to fall into the category of 'brainwashed'
@sapperbloggs I am open to alternative ideas. If there is absolute proof of a god existing, which there isn't at this moment, then I'd be happy to 'convert'.
