i bought this phone and hated it for a long time, then i rooted it, upgraded it to cyanogenmod6 and put another couple of things on it and its the best phone i ever had, if you can change the software on it, its a brilliant phone to have.

Same here. Currently using it with Cynogenmod7 and some new 3d drivers. Works like a charm. It's Android 2.2.1. I also formatted the file system in ext2 and that made it even faster.

The best thing is i bought the phone a year ago for just 100 euro, not being refunded by a carrier.

So it's a phone for those who know what to do with it. It's a great phone but Samsung cut the support really soon, just coz they had to sell their new phones after all.

it's a terrible phone... don't buy it. After a few months, it got REALLY laggy... then after a year, standby time is 1-2 hours. then a while after that, standby is a few minutes.... seriously, don't buy it.

I've got the samsung galaxy spica I7500 white. Yeah this phone sucks, it freezes all the time and i've got a micro sd in it but its still slow. My bluetooth doesn't work, it contexts with internet all the time, even if im not on the internet, My phone bill was so high because of that. Now i blocked the internet on my phone. If i knew this before i probably never bought it.

samsung i5800 is better even with 667 mhz the arm cortex procesor +256mb ram + 500 rom = no lag on phone and god speed, dont campare this lame phone to i5800

@tecg87 you've got lot of right buddy. all those peoples don't even use i5800 and judge it 'bout lower processor speed./// i use both phones and i5800 is lot faster and newer technological. with root i5800 get's more operating memory - using 'swap' so i5700 will not get i5800 level. resolution is lower but it don't make lot difference - it's still nice and good looking. for end - newer phones are created cuz producent got better solutions and technological powers.

do not have your sim-card in the phone!

1. backup your phone(all data will be lost)

2. install "new pc studio"

(you can find it in samsungs webpage, or in the cd you got)

3. connect your phone to the comupter via usb.

4. open "new pc studio" and click on "the ball with a arrow on.

go to update and select the phone you have(galaxy spica)

5. follow the instructions that you get!

From the video, it seems that the phone got laggy. Why is that? Is 2.1 not to good on the spica or its just that phone on the video or the upgrade done to the phone is not done correctly? Why does it lag on 2.1? I thought the 800mhz would cope with the upgraded FW? please I need your help on this, I'm planning on buying this phone but upgrading it to 2.1.

@ljcayie i upgraded and it's much less laggy than on 1.5. previously i barely could write on keyboard and now everything works fairly well. i really recommend updating

@ljcayie If you mean the lagging when switching photos, it's perfectly fine if you download an image viewer from the market, I highly reccomend floatingimage. It works really well and has some nice touches to it. Buy the phone, it's worth getting.

You only thing I would change with this phone is the ability to multi-touch, and also add a flash onto the camera.

@tischloch what to do is plug your phone into the comp with the pc studio open , make ure the phone is turned off and turn it on plugged in , the comp should read it and pc studio should recognise it and let you update it , hope this helps :)

Has this damn firmware been released in the uk yet? I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, and have finally managed to get both Samsung New Pc Studio (v1.5 downloaded from the samsung support page for this specific phone) and my phone (Samsung Galaxy Portal) thats running firmware 1.5, to connect with each other. Yet when i press firmware update it says no update available.

I'm getting impatient waiting for any news on this and have considered flashing, but don't want to void the warranty.

@dhom25 if you have an un-official 2.1 on your spica i think you have to use ODIN to flash an official firmware. Otherwise you might brick your spica.

I tried to upgrade it hundreds of time before with samsung PC studio and NPS. Neither worked, so I took it into T-Mobile and they said their is a problem with the USB program in the phone. Its now with samsung (I think :/) and they are going to fix the bug and update the phone for me :).

Also when you have connected your phone to PC then switch USB debugging on and turn Mass storing off. then your phone should show up
