Paul Gilbert must be the greatest teacher of all time, even when he's not trying to be. I've had a idea for a little 4 chord verse progression but this one chord was bugging me, when he mentioned the A7 chord i thought "Wait a minute", paused the video, played the song (with the A7 Chord) & it works perfectly!!!!! THANKS PAUL!!

just to really show his application of the octive thing, look up Olympic by Paul Gilbert, and at about 4:05-4:10 is just a riff in different octives. plus the arpeggios are bitchin =)
