  • Dirk Nowitzki shredding.

  • He temporarily broke my computer.

  • He temporarily broke my computer.

  • Knowledge is what he really has, technique and even practice are not the only things a musician needs...

  • Anyone understand a thing he said?

  • i just stepped out of line on this guitar thing bro

  • I'm most proud to declare that my first youtube comment of 2012 is: God Bless Paul Gilbert.

  • I'd watch CountFenrir watch Paul Gilbert read a phone book....in BRAIL mutha funka's!

  • Crap, I just did the scale @ 6:26 and was feeling pretty good about myself. Then he replayed it at 6:29...

  • This guy is a genius...not to mention incredibly talented.

  • Paul Gilbert must be the greatest teacher of all time, even when he's not trying to be. I've had a idea for a little 4 chord verse progression but this one chord was bugging me, when he mentioned the A7 chord i thought "Wait a minute", paused the video, played the song (with the A7 Chord) & it works perfectly!!!!! THANKS PAUL!!

  • Paul Gilbert makes the best teaching videos out there

  • does someone know how is the fingering at 3:18-3:25?

  • simply but good

  • If Paul Gilbert worked in NASA he would explored Mars

  • just to really show his application of the octive thing, look up Olympic by Paul Gilbert, and at about 4:05-4:10 is just a riff in different octives. plus the arpeggios are bitchin =)

  • My god. Undoubtably the best guitarist trying to hand off his skills to the next generation.

  • Awesome player and very good teacher. He could teach a player for 1 week and make then a guitar god.

  • good lesson dear. A child guitarist can understand your lessons and try easily dear.

thank you for having given these lessons.

  • film mal die linke hand wie man greift, nicht immer die oarsch rechte, das kann eh jeder hugo spieln -.-

  • @markusfenz das muss du selber rausfinden xD

  • what was he playing in the start??? i want the tabs! :(

  • Soo helpful!

  • sweepers gonna sweep...

  • I love this! But I wish there were videos where he'd break down his vibrato. I think he has one of the best.

  • Comment removed

  • my hands are as long as his pinkie finger

  • I don't understand any of this but it sounds good.

  • much too fast! can't follow

  • *this

  • Where are the brakes in thus guy's fingers I can't keep up!

  • you kick ass man, i am still going to learn the " purist " way of doing it just because I got nothing better to do, but your way is going to be funner honestly thanks. kind of like when i was in high cal classes - find a new way to crunch an equiatioin and smack the teach with it - great!

  • man, you got hte most useful chanel on youtube! been busting my skull steeping on this level and this is the only thing that breaks it to my level. thanks!

  • I like how he says arpeggios xD

  • i thought arpeggios were the seperation of notes?

  • you spend so much time doing pentatonic scales....it's endless.

  • damn sweepers

  • hes right the sweep pick arpeggio sound blurry and like a fart lol but when you string skip pick the notes individually and pull of it sounds WAY BETTER!

  • I'd watch Paul Gilbert read a phone book.

  • i just got a better understanding he plays they save lick on each 8th

    EASY

  • im in a band and i play the lead guitar part. i always write a riff using the basic scales i learned from a book. i stopped playing guitar for almost 5 years and now when i write a riff, it sounds cool but i dont know what im doing. hehe thanks to this video

  • A God amongst men...

  • I like how paul is pretty much the best guitarist in the world and is still self-depricating. this guy is awesome.

  • I thought sweeping was gonna be harder to learn than string skipped arpeggios. How wrong I was...

  • did anyone ever tell u ur talented cuz if not let me tell u.. UR TALENTED.. keep jammin

  • i love the way paul says arpeggios. "are-pay-ge-oh's" lol

  • The Jazz People can explain it to you better than I can...Well put!

  • We'll let the sweeper's of the world take care of the sweeps.Thank god, someone just spoke my mind.

  • @Mega80smetal I AM NOT ALONE IN THIS WORLD !!!

  • @Mega80smetal yeah he understands that sweeping is overatted

  • @ex3vious Not overrated, just that he doesn't prefer them.

  • I certainly prefer his method to sweeping, shame currently only my sweeping is up to speed.

  • @roccckkerrr string skipping and sweeping is quite different... Sweeping is always good to know.

  • Watching Paul Gilbert lessons? Smart.

  • he makes it look so simple...

  • king

  • Good guitar player

  • That hair flick at 0:31 is the single best half a second of footage of any YouTube video ever!

  • Man, this guy is one of the best guitarists I have ever heard.

And he is one hell of a teacher, too.

  • JESUS IS LORD !!!

  • Asparagus fingers!!!! lol!

  • i dont just learn. i enjoy. awsome playing

  • That was, uhh, kind of boring.

  • dude, ur awesome!!!!

  • Paul Gilbert --> No ego, just guitars! This lesson is a classic example of how well Paul can teach and how much he loves teaching and more importantly how humble he can be! He is by far my favourite guitarist-person!

  • This is a phenomenal lesson by someone who just loves what he's doing...and it good at it!

  • Lol, if you turn on captions, when he says hammer ons and pulloffs it thinks he's saying cameras of wall street xD

  • seriously, watching this with captions is the funniest thing.

  • his pinky is longer than his penis !!!! lmao :D

  • Um, tabs?

  • Paul Gilbert is one of the Guitar God.

  • c#m7with a flatted 5 that will get you some chicks

  • the first riff is the one he uses in his epic solo when you type in 'paul gilbert tabs'

  • Paul Gilbert has the unique ability to break down advanced concepts into easily visualized elements. I learn more from applying the ideas from his lessons than any other "guitar-god" I've ever seen.

  • Killer lesson, very practical, thx Paul!

  • fucking nice long fingers <3 Paul

  • been playing 30yrs ..this is actually a very well visualized lesson....you must own this theory to offer this way

  • musical braingasm. O.O

  • what a g

  • Paul owns.

  • awesome. at first i thought this might be lame. but it's actually one of the best lessons I've found. lots of great ideas here

  • 0:47

LOL LIKE JANITOR'S AND OLE LADIES, PAUL?

  • 14 persons are def

  • Paul can take such a simple recipe and turn it into a smorgasborg just by adding asparagus fingers to the left and a high rpm mixer on the right.

  • Paul Gilbert show us how not to play like him

  • A half diminshed just has a m7 a full diminished has a bb7 .

  • to see the best sweeper go to 'empyreal lesson' the first one. enjoy

  • Isn't a c#minor 7th b5 a C# half diminished chord, or am I stupid?

  • @trinoply it's the same thing

  • @odomi121

    Yeah, thats what I thought.

  • 4:04-4:05 i swear he was abou to say ''same shit''

  • Paul, Thanks for the lesson. I'm a newbie, got about 8 months in and practice every morning. I have dream of Satrioni type shit but with my own tone and you lesson just opened up another way to practice my licks and to mix it up. Keep up the great work, you video was definitley and inspiration and I tell you this. When JustinG - Spontaneous Licks and Wang-n Riffs comes out you'll be duly noted. Thanks Again.

  • well thank you paul gilbert, for reminding me how much I suck

  • A genius. Great that there are still people like this prepared to pass on their hard earned knowledge.

  • I have to admit that PAUL GILBERT is a very good musician/guitarist ok!

  • Can't Paul show the guitar Tab's for the notes that he plays??? OH! please,Give me a break!!

  • @jimzzy49 There's these neat little things called fret markers, Count'em bro.

  • @skyguy15 Well, I Know that!! I cannot tell by just looking at what he plays on his guitar fretboard ok!!

  • @jimzzy49 haha, It's ok dude, I used to not be able to tell, I've only recently been able to follow what people do on videos by watching them play, I've been playing for almost three years.

  • @jimzzy49 lol

It's k man, calm down, if you really cares about guitaring it'll come to you.. not overnight though, probadly a year if you practice alot if your lazy like me two years.

I can play eruption but i got a long way to go.

everything in life that requires technique is practice dude.

  • @Emceetem WHO ARE YOU?? I Don't even KNOW you alright! Plus, I have being playing guitar for about 3 years, and I'm very 'HUNGRY' to become a very good guitar player; if NOT better than Paul Gilbert!?? I Don't think that there is such a thing as "THE GREATEST GUITARIST" in this World ok!

  • @jimzzy49

Iv'e seen your playing, your OK. But how come you can't tell what paul gilbert is playing just by looking at the video?

I don't know why your acting in a cantankerous manner, i never said i believed in a "best guitarist" either... You said that, maybe you should be practicing your musical ear more and not making your self angry at someone giving you advice.

  • @Emceetem Because it is hard to really tell!!! I know that you did not say, I'm only telling people here on the Internet ok! Please, Don't even 'PM' me! NO!, I'm NOT acting in a cantankerous manner ok! I don't want advice, if it is going to be a waste of my TIME! Thankyou BYE!

  • "enhancing fingering shaped like a party"

  • *throws guitar out the window*

  • "really allows you to travel over the front porch"

  • sounds soooo much better than sweeps, i've always wondered why i liked him more than most shredders...he seems like a genuine down to earth dude also

  • Fuck. I suck

  • 14 ppl r justin beiber fans

  • Oh how I love octaves.

  • Paul is the best

  • "for small share for example %uh this shit"??? Audio caption you've done it again:D

  • lol 0:42 (with audio cap) "for pigeons", that killed me xD

  • paul's licks really arent't that difficult or that complicated, but the thing is, he plays them so GOD DAMNED FAST

  • @ironrushscorp I know the feeling, it really makes you rethink playing the guitar. You manage to get through it though and just hammer down and practice. It took him 8 years, the only thing that gets me thou is that Im so used to alternate picking everything. Hes so good at hammer-ons. It warps my brain when my left hand is goin faster than the right.

  • Great hair, lol.

  • here you go again with your damn string skipping paul...dont you understand like half of us cant do that shit haha

  • Hammer and pull-offs = cameras of Wall St.

  • man with this audio captioning, id hate to be deaf

  • His pinky longer than an asians penis.

  • @pskptbrk1 so is everything else -.-

  • One of if not the best teachers around.

  • i think paul could've been a great jazz player too..if he was actually in to jazz

  • What the hell? In some parts it seems like his left hand just teleports like a video trick (Paul is actually tricking us). His precision and clean sounding are incredible, two traits i like very much about his playing.

  • dude your shit is hooked up so nice and lovely, that even if you stopped playing and just talk your damn sound meter still picks up on it, oh my gracious goodness man,, you must be loaded.

  • his fingers are too long..!! i cant do that :(

    \m/_

  • @ditoarch06

try using medium frets, thats wat his using

  • @FamGuitarist really? i'll try that.. thx man

    \m/_

  • @ditoarch06

lol yeah if u have small fingers

  • @ditoarch06 paul gilbert's pinky finger is very long too indeed.

  • @youngjazz777 yea you're right dude.. actually his pattern, his playing style is simple, not like Richie Kotzen, it's easy if we HAVE long fingers like he does..

    \m/_

  • I have your same last name! haha.

  • Another really useful lesson thanks paul!
