  • Actually this Particular Lick is the style of Chet Atkins (Tommy's Mentor)

Watch this Chet's video " Autumn leaves" played lived to see him use this lick.

  • really nice explanation but he is playing 8th and 7th fret and saying 9th and 8th fret ........lesson was absolutely nice......2 thumbs up

  • Great lesson but Jim keeps calling 9th when he means 8th. Have a look. Also if it was the 9th you would get c# and G# both which do not work against AM or C Chords.

  • Thankyou, this really spiced up when I play tommy's gas...wait that sounds...ummm

  • pew, Gibson

    boycott corporate pigs!!!!!

  • Good Job Man...i like this :-D

  • i love u now

  • thank you, very good lesson!!!

  • WOW !!!!! Nice going... Two Thumbs-up :-) LM

  • Chet had dozens of those amazing short licks that he tossed into his tunes repeatedly over the years. They really spiced up his playing. Can you teach us more of them?

  • He was just testing you guys. You guys win the prize. It's actually the 8th fret! Woo.

  • Really Jim was just nervous. He is a very good instructor

  • what the hell are you guys talking about? It IS the 9th fret on the E and B strings. Then is 8-5

  • its just the A minor penatonic he just pulls off to an open note

  • can this be done with a pleck?

  • No way this guy is as good as Tommy ! :P Tommy plays this lick which much more feeling and better phrasing.

But nice lesson for sure !

  • does your leasson cost $

  • he keeps saying 9th fret but hes playing the 8th fret! lol

  • ya you would figure he would correct himself after the first one, lol

  • thankx

    very nice

  • can this guy not count frets?

  • Thanks For That Bro

  • Nice!

  • Information on right hand fingering is so often neglected when teaching tricky things like this - excellent lesson, thanks.

  • great lesson.

  • Nice lesson, thanks

  • give him a break, it was an absolutely amazing lesson. and he said 9th fret instead of 8th just cause he was nervous in front of the camera. everyone is.

  • Very good lesson. thanks!

  • Wow, it's really good, he explains it all so calm and steady :)

  • What kind of a guitarist does not know where the 9th fret is...?

  • trust me he's awesome... but he's human. I suppose you are not by your comment.

  • you seem like dolt..so i guess it's even!!

  • Comment removed

  • haha you just essentially said "takes one to know one"...yeah well done, maybe next time try not typing anything at all, see how that works out for you and all the people dragged to your unintelligent statements. :)

  • every time he says 9th he means 8th, and 8th = 7th

  • y did that chinese dude even comment lol-nice vid btw

  • Thankyou Jim great lick but you do mean 8--5 you had me checking my guitar after 35 years of playing acoustic still well done. Would love you to show some chickin pickin tips

  • does he mean 8th fret, and not 9th? lol

  • This would be really satisfying to learn and be able to play quickly. It'd be a good warm-up too me thinks...! Thanks Jim for the really clear video and instructions!
