If you all hate her so much than why listen? Courtney wrote the lyrics. The themes and some lyrics from Live through this can be found on her previous record the one before she met her husband. Courtney Love got the line "live through this" from Gone with the Wind-a theme courtney used when in pagan babies (verses from "best sunday dress") andeven after Kurt...her current demos uses the same Gone with the wind theme(i.e "never go hungry again").

TheRomanticTrickster, if you look at the lyrics you can tell the clever hook lines, the ones that make the songs work, are Kurts. Some of the lesser lyrics sound like stuff she came up with, but Kurt gave the songs aristic direction. This is why none of her CDs have done as well since "Live Through This." She's still looking for someone to write songs for her, but she hasn't found another Kurt. There isn't another.

Billy Corgan wrote like 97% (don't really use that number, just making a point) of the lyrics and music for Smashing Pumpkins. With your logic, Billy Corgans solo career would've been as great as the first incarnation of the Smashing Pumpkins and the second would've been just as good. Well, I don't think Smashing Pumpkins is as great as Kurt was, sorry. When something is a masterpiece it has a quality that is called organic, that is all of its parts work together to create a greater statement. Kurt was known for being able to do this, and "Live Through This" has that quality. Also, Kurt had a uniquely ironic if a bit wicked sense of humor. The line "If you live through this I would die for you" is so Kurt.

I think you're selling Smashing Pumpkins kinda short. I would put them as equals to Nirvana. If Corgan offed himself just as Kurt did, or before Kurt, he probably would've been as or even more legendary. They were great in the 90's. Not so much in the new millenium, but that's a topic for a different time on a different youtube comment page. And you or I will never know whether Kurt wrote it or not, but I could say that Kurt just may have influenced her. That is a more believable theory.

I could see Kurt helping out while they were sitting around in their bedroom on any given afternoon just messin around on their guitars. Their love of music probably brought them together helped keep them close. But I wouldn't say that he straight up wrote songs for her and she took t hem as her own. Influences probably drove her, just as they do with any other artist. It's inevitable.

He didn't write a song for them. And Shirley Manson may have said that, but help is the operative word; not writing songs "for" her. So I'm still not convinced that he wrote the entire song. Helped, influenced, yeah, sure, maybe. But Love's capable.
