That $100 would probably be $30 to $40. That's why I don't like yes it can go up but it can down and when it goes down your not getting that money back.

There is risk associated with owning every currency in the world, all bonds, stocks and real estate. It doesn't have to go into stocks. It just can't be the governments own bonds. It could be foreign government bonds or corporate bonds. It's actually better to be in bonds when the market falls. The DOW was at 776 in 1983. Today over 10,000.
@TheMobocracy, the problem I have where the SS money goes. IF it goes down due to a stock, bond, real estate then your not getting that money back, but it could go up. Now if you get that SS check $100 for hundred dollars, then since its your money now then you can do whatever you want with it. For seniors it usually goes to their drugs or various other reasons. By 1993 it went up to about 3000 then by 2000 it went up to 10,000.

It's not going back into the positive until unemployment comes down which isn't going to happen by 2016. Also the fund has no assets. The government is liable for it's own debt. If the SS fund was empty the government would have to sell bonds to raise cash. The same bonds that make up the fund. It's a fraud.

Therefore, cutting spending would allow the government to ease the tax burden, as it no longer needs to collect capital for the purpose of spending. The reason the government taxes citizens is because it needs money to spend.
Also, most loans and grants given out by the government are wasted, given that the government lends money indiscriminately (it tends to make bad investments)

Cutting Medicare isn't going to help seniors who need medications and can't afford it. SS being cut won't help anyone who lives off of it, and if it gets privatized, the head will just jack up rates like for health insurance and screw SS users economically.

They'll probably hold the senate by one or two and the House will be razor thin as well. That means gridlock and since the Dems would still have "control" their face will still be on everything come 2012. If I were the Republicans I wouldn't worry so much about the "control" part at this point. Let the Dems have it because they won't be able to pass anything anyway.

Now imagine putting that money into the Stock Market in 2007. In 2008, the economic mess wiped out 11 TRILLION DOLLARS! That means bye bye IRA, 401K's, mutual fund. That $100 would probably be $30 to $40. That's why I don't like yes it can go up but it can down and when it goes down your not getting that money back.

There is risk associated with owning every currency in the world, all bonds, stocks and real estate. It doesn't have to go into stocks. It just can't be the governments own bonds. It could be foreign government bonds or corporate bonds. It's actually better to be in bonds when the market falls. The DOW was at 776 in 1983. Today over 10,000.

@TheMobocracy, the problem I have where the SS money goes. IF it goes down due to a stock, bond, real estate then your not getting that money back, but it could go up. Now if you get that SS check $100 for hundred dollars, then since its your money now then you can do whatever you want with it. For seniors it usually goes to their drugs or various other reasons. By 1993 it went up to about 3000 then by 2000 it went up to 10,000.

@Smarterthanyouarable The estimates assume a rosy economic forecast. All government projections pick a % rate of growth and they extrapolate it out for decades with no recession. It's not going back into the positive until unemployment comes down which isn't going to happen by 2016. Also the fund has no assets. The government is liable for it's own debt. If the SS fund was empty the government would have to sell bonds to raise cash. The same bonds that make up the fund. It's a fraud.

Also for Medicaid just let the poor rot and NOT give them any help or assistance. Let those children starve or let their health deteriorate since their parents cannot afford good medical care. While were at it, get rid of Head Start and let those kids fend for themselves.

Again, social security is one of those things the government has the duty to uphold. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are what governments have been instituted to defend.
Privatization of Social Security programs is practically unheard of in every other industrialized nation, simply because it is totally stupid. The key to the wellness of individuals when they are too old to work is not something that can or should be exclusively given to private hands.

@nafaidni Uh, Nafaidi, in order for the government to spend money, it needs to acquire capital from citizens. Therefore, cutting spending would allow the government to ease the tax burden, as it no longer needs to collect capital for the purpose of spending. The reason the government taxes citizens is because it needs money to spend.
Also, most loans and grants given out by the government are wasted, given that the government lends money indiscriminately (it tends to make bad investments)

See how those two are kind of like exact opposites? Tax cuts are broad forms of spending that apply to a large group of people. Cutting taxes puts money into the economy.
Spending is essentially the same, but it is directed towards specific goals rather than just tossing out money and hoping it'll feed the growth flame. It can be for entitlements, contracts, loans, grants, etc.

Get out of conservative candyland. Spending and tax cuts are virtually the same. Both tend to create growth. Both increase the deficit. Both are either stupid or smart depending on the situation and the type of either one.
Cutting Medicare isn't going to help seniors who need medications and can't afford it. SS being cut won't help anyone who lives off of it, and if it gets privatized, the head will just jack up rates like for health insurance and screw SS users economically.

This means, whenever the government collects taxes, they have to do so in the interest of all citizens, not special interests (Medicare and SS = special interests of the elderly; Department of Education = special interest of the poor and money-grubbing teacher's union). If you look at the voting demographics of the democratic party, its primarily made up of very rich and very poor people (i.e., no middle class).

That doesn't mean the government can't help an age group. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, really. Public schools, then, must be unfair as they are restricted to children.
Everyone (unless the die early) becomes old. Everyone will get Medicare benefits one day. So that still helps the generalw elfare.

It can only apply laws concerning the "general" population You just tried to rationalize a position that favors Congressional spending towards special interests. When SS and Medicare were created, large portions of money were taken from younger workers and given to the elderly (i.e., a special interest).

Yes, better wages, but considering the cost-of-living, those wages are worth shit. The production costs for European companies are so high that they have to charge more for products in order to make profits. Also, those wages don't mean much when the government takes 80% in income taxes. Economic freedom = personal freedom. Since the government takes most of the wealth, private citizens have less to spend, and therefore less economic (i.e., personal) freedom. Europe is crap.

The only countries that have economic freedom in the EU are Ireland and Switzerland (i.e., the most libertarian countries). Also, those two countries have higher standards-of-living that any other country in the EU. America would still have the highest standard-of-living if not for increasing government intervention in the market.

Also, Swiss capital gains and corporate taxes are the lowest in the EU, which is why Switzerland's growth rate is much higher than other European countries (highly objective info., by the way).
