  • 16 people hate life... hope when yall die you become a flower and sing this song all day!

  • i love new york i love yaa xxxxxxxxxxx

  • The screaming pitch of the backing vocals in the final chorus makes my hair stand on end. And it is so natural, not like so many "try-hards" today.

  • my ears love this

  • One of my all-time favorite psych slow jams.

  • Dead bloody right all those with positive comments - well played hoopkim for sharing this with the world. Most enjoyable.

  • Beautiful

  • I was reminded of this song after hearing 'La La' by Stepkids. They've definitely taken inspiration from 'Les Fleurs'. Not that I blame them; it's a fantastic song.

  • I need a baileys

  • so beautyful

  • love lives forever

  • Divine is right it makes me soo madd that she didnt get the credit she deserved for this wonderful album

  • 15 people were apparently born with no soul

  • @BabyBoiQue maybe 15 people without soul think that justin biever is music XD

  • @ginesik0 Anybody that thinks Justin Bieber is music HAS NO soul

  • @BabyBoiQue ...definitely LOL

but... i think that maybe that people have grown in an age where music isn't considered as an art.

"Les Fleurs" is one of the most perfect example to define the music like ART

  • @ginesik0 Dont get me wrong, i understand that music is subjective. Diff people like diff things, and i like to consider myself open minded with music. I listen to just about anything...but how can and TRUE music fan not like this. As for JB, i guess if i was a 10 year old lil girl i might enjoy his crap, i mean his music too

  • OMG just listen to that beautiful soaring voice.

  • i love it, obviously.

  • I think this inspired Stevie to do Secret Life of Plants.

  • The GREAT and DIVINE Minnie Riperton.

  • something magic in this piece

  • great video, wow

  • This song is so familiar, as in I heard it before in a movie or tv show, does anyone know where it could have been used as a soundtrack?

  • @jezuez47 Most recently I heard it on an episode of Top Gear, series 5. When they are testing an XJS.

  • @Acct1941 Me too! I had to do a huge amount of search term word guessing to get me here!

  • Who is hitting ranges like this today?! Only the great Minnie Riperton had a clear 5+ octave. No cracks. SImply smooth!

  • VJs are the new artists for the ages... and all for free... thanks to the greatest media since Gutenberg: YouTube!

  • I totally agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • amazing!!!

  • Beautiful!

  • this songs the asome it,s such a pretty song

  • What a beautiful music video.

  • Wow! The best whistle register ever!

  • que padree la acabo de conocer a riperton, pero lo curioso esque esta cancion ya la aviaaa escuchado con otro grupo que se llamaa 4Hero creo, pero que padre enserio seme hace delo mejor jeje

  • damn i love this song, than it gets super live. r.i.p. to Minnie, the best to ever do it

  • "Inside every man lives the seed of a flower, if he looks within he finds beauty and power." And what's funny is...we don't look within nearly enough.

  • @iluvmyboba my point exactly i luv that line very well put.

  • Sampled by the German Hip Hop artists Joe Rilla (Flucht nach vorn) and Freundeskreis (Mit dir)..

  • i love this woman and the song is just beautiful. one of the best vocalist ever.

  • hammer song erinnert mich ein wenig an ein musical......

    ^^ super 5 sterne

  • That's beautiful!!

  • Que pedazoo de rola, sñores hasta hoy no he escuchado voz como la de minie, y si hay una mejor quiero escucharla

  • OMG! INCREDIBLE!!!

  • This has got to be one of my favorite pieces of music ever. Its so uplifting, refreshing and never fails to slap a smile on my face. That my friends is what music is about!!

  • unbelievable!

  • This was ahead of it's time.

  • This is where Kate Bush got her style ! This song knocked me out when I first heard this one Radio 4 on Inheritance tracks. All I heard of Minnie Riperton was 'Loving You'. This knocks that song into oblivion, someone re-release as this would be a better tribute to the Late Ms Ripperton

  • amazing song, love it

  • Sampled by Jurrasic 5 feat Nelly Furtado - Thin Line

  • Atmosphere sampled this? I believe

  • hmm..it reminds me "Dear Prudence" by The Beatles..

  • I was referring to the acoustic guitar part and you refer to the bass melody.

"Dear Prudence" was recorded in August of 1968 and a few months prior to that "Les Fleurs" was released on the 'Maiden Voyage' album by Ramsey Lewis who plays the piano on Minnie's version, by the way.

  • Second-ed

  • The basic theme ( intro ) reminds me of "Can't Find My Way Home" by Blind Faith.

"Les Fleurs" was recorded in late November of 1969 and the album "Blind Faith" was released a few months prior to that.

I wonder whether Steve Winwood knows this.

  • Minnie was just simply amazing.

  • the psyche-bird-trip...giantLOL

  • pure energy

  • "For all of these simple things and much more a flower was born.

It blooms to spread love and joy faith and hope to people

forlorn " SHE was a beautiful flower.

  • They weren't ready for her.

  • JE L'AIME!

  • Though it's been 30yrs since your passing Minnie, you are still sorely missed. Your "Angelic" voice may be stilled, but thankfully your recordings will live forever. We were blessed to have"U" for that short time.God blessed us with one of his Angel's. Rest In Peace sister Minnie Julia Ripperton.

  • beautiful..just like the woman who sings it...

  • cool

  • love this song i wish music was like diz nah

  • pushed wrong iconbut i thought the comment was very nice

  • This is a very nice video of the most beautiful song I have ever heard. It should be played on the air waves of FB, My Space, and any other social networks to get her music out there again. They don't make music like this anymore.

  • This is a lovely song one of the best that I have ever heard..It is a great example of work done by Minnie Riperton with the genius of Charles Stepney behind her ...It is a crying shame that it is one the best songs hardly ever heard ... I have to agree with you ..They don't make music like this anymore ..RIP Minnie and Charles

  • @Daddyksea ..oh YES! Im posting it!

  • @Daddyksea Indeed, I agree with that.

  • <3 <3 <3 it!!!

  • Just watched her story on Unsung. I caught a glimpse of this song and it sounded so beautiful. I remembered the name of it and found it here.

I must say this is one of the most beautifully written songs I've ever heard. The lyrics are so pure and undiluted, The instrumentals are so smooth and soothing, and the vocals are simply beautiful.

  • I watched the same special and I knew that it would be here!! I sampled the song in 1993, but I never actually spent the time to actually listen to it back then, but im listening and loving it now!! @calstate

  • TUNE!!!!! And love the video too!!!

  • This is so beautiful....

  • Alright real nice

  • This is so beautiful.

  • Minnie was one of those special beings that came here to help us awaken.

"Inside every man lives the seed of a flower. If he looks within he finds beauty and power." Message...

Awaken 2012 is around the corner

  • LoL

    Good one.

  • lol i was jus thinking the same thing when i was jammin to this

    peace on your journey fam

  • I'm surprised noone has samples this song especially that chorus part! Hot stuff...

  • It has been covered by a group called 4Hero and used on an advert for Baileys.

  • Slim Calhoun- It's Ok

He sampled Les Fleurs That's the only person that I can recall

  • My boy DNA has. Straight fire.

  • If it wasn't for this woman it wouldn't even a Mariah...I can see why she is one of her idols....Minnie was an awesome artist ahead of her time...

  • i love this song and the whole body of work. Minnie is the tops. The passion, spirit of this lady is beyond anything that i hear in music today. There will never be another Minnie. You are missed, and the music that you lefted here with us is unbelievable, and we miss the sounds that could have been. Love You, girl. B.M.W.

  • truly a songstress before her time, her records didnt sell that well because people didnt understand her music i guess, but I love her now!

  • The late, great Charles Stepney is the composer, producer and arranger of this beautiful song

  • Can anyone tell me what she means in the beginning of the song?

  • Minnie is singing first person in the beginning of Les Fleurs as the flower. So she is asking if someone will wear her (a flower) to the fair and if someone will pin her (flower) in her hair. Then she switches to third person and sings about flowers. Seems confusing but I hope I cleared this up. Come Into My Garden was Minnie's classical album released very early in her career after Rotary Connection. Petals is the name of her anthology.

  • continued:Light up the sky with your prayers of gladness and rejoice for the darkness is gone

Throw off your fears let your heart beat freely at the sign that a new time is born

  • RE:

    TRANSAM19777

    Thank you...

The chorus is also beautiful. :)

  • no problem at all

  • lyrics:Will somebody wear me to the fair?

Will a lady pin me in her hair?

Will a child find me by a stream?

Kiss my petals and weave me through a dream.

For all of these simple things and much more a flower was born

It blooms to spread love and joy faith and hope to people forlorn

Inside every man lives the seed of a flower

If he looks within he finds beauty and power

Ring all the bells sing and tell the people that be everywhere that the flower has come

  • is this an original video for the song

i love the song so peaceful

  • ja das ist gut!!!

  • das schönste lied der welt !!!

  • But what does the choir sing?

  • Hi erictronix.I think it's...

la la la la la la la la la la la la la

la la la la la la. Something along those lines.

  • Re-Umskiddy-

    That was cute... :)

    Another great tune from Minnie.

    Thanks.

  • Hi 4eva68,

Thanks for that.I know it was a childish response - the song made me feel all playful, happy and innocent that's all.

  • I wish there was a video of Minnie singing this song. That would be so sweet!! Thanks for sharing!

  • i luv this song it' one of mi favz nd that visual art is real trippy

  • Ramsey Lewis did a remake of this song a few years ago but this version is the best

  • as far as i know, ramsey lewis' instrumental version was first (1968) and minnie's version was from 1970..

  • I believe that's correct.

  • beautiful :]

  • I can not believe that in all my love for music and as long as I have been alive, that I have never heard this song until today. I truly feel like I have been missing out on something. What a beautiful beautiful song by a beautiful beautiful lady full of love and soul.....her spirit must be soaring high....

  • There is nothiong more beautiful then discovering a new song. I am so happy for you. :D

  • Beautiful song from a Classic album. Timeless. You can play this and segue into Pfunk's "Placebo Syndrome"

  • This is a beautiful song that has almost been forgotten. I love it.

  • lil troy used this he sampled this for

the track "STILL A B**CH N MY BOOK"

I knew when i first the rap version it was something special about the beat..

  • Thank you. I knew this song sounded familiar while watching a documentary on her life. Couldn't remember where I had heard it.

  • Perfect video for a perfect song.

  • The video is awesome!! I love the part when the peacock makes his first appearance. He's showing off his feathers...saying "check me out." Right in tune with the music. If you come across the cd, (come to my garden) don't let it pass you by. It's definitely an oldie but goodie. EXCELLENT to be exact. Minnie ruled!!

  • trippy and awesome

  • Graet Vid to this music by the way.

  • A beautiful sung song,

has anybody else done a cover of this?

Minnie ripperton has a great voice,

i first heard her voice sampled ( from loving you)on an Orb track.

its great the many different ways you can be introduced to new great music,

films, adverts or some good old samples.

  • yes, 4hero have done a remake of this song and Carina Andersson sings the new version. Either way it's amazing!

  • Yes, Ramsey Lewis covered it in 1983 on his album Reasons.

  • off the album reasons. what song did he sample from les fluers?

  • isn't this sampled for "gang starr - jazz music"??

  • the ramsey lewis version is the one gang starr used

  • what language is that around 1:58?

  • Creole

  • i would love to know as well .. ithought it was french ?? but not so sure

  • oooh I hate how mariah tries to sound like minnie

  • Why does she have to be trying to sound like minnie because she also has the ability to hit high notes.....is she supposed to not do it because someone else did it first......maybe she should just hid the fact that she's able to do it.......why is it that as soon as people find something to compare one artist to another with they immediately feel the need to choose sides and decide they're loyalty....I for one am happy to enjoy the gift that God has given both of these incredibly talented women.

  • Don't wright so much

  • Don't read it...and learn how to spell...it's "write."

  • Dork

  • I agree with you

  • I always knew the Ramsey Lewis version (BTW anyone has that??!) ...anyway, Really great song, very '60's w/ multiple octives and the la la la's... cool, great post!
