@AssafBechar It doesn't speak to any one developed nation in particular, it's a reflection of the attitudes that have been prominent since Reagan, Thatcher et al: that 'class politics' are old fashioned, we are all free to get rich. It's more in tune with its time as now we are seeing a shift in global perspectives. Sorry if I'm starting to sound like a bore lol
@mschneiderg I know nothing about Israel and little about England in the 80s, and I know Americans are supposed to be thick, but are you completely unable to catch the sarcasm here? Have you read the lyrics?
@mschneiderg ok, I apologize if that was a bit antagonistic, it wasn't fair of me, you make a good point, actually a very astute one
I just wonder if the essential unreality of this notion that everyone has a level playing field gets lost in the grand game of nostalgia and band namechecking.
This fantastic song reminds me of one of the greatest gigs I have had the honour to witness. The upstairs bar at Manchester University Spring 1988. Not even full but the band were on top form and a bloke, who must have been knocking on 50, dancing 80's indie style for the whole concert made it truly memorable. Warning: Avoid at all costs the pale, in comparison, cover versions of McCarthy songs by the Manic Street Preachers. This talented bunch were the real deal.
Does anyone think their vote is gonna change anything? There is no alternative but the same old elite in different guises selling nothing but lies so they can take power and line their pockets by robbing us. They'll sell us fear and force feed us mind numbing banality through the mass media in the hope we'll be distracted. REVOLUTION! Lets behead the elite and start again! We're all free to choose........Are we??
@suspectVandal Well obviously, that's the real world for you. But there's no denying Tories are the worst and most despicible party out there and labour are by far the lesser of 2 evils.
@nervosa00 I disagree. That may have been the case 20 years ago, but not anymore. You used to get the feeling that Labour were the working class party that were in touch with the populace. You can't really say that is the case with the privately educated, priviledged New Labour types. Let us not forget, it was New Labour that introduced tuition fees for British students.
i normally clued up on the details of records i own but until now i had no idea this was originally done by mccarthy and the MSPs covered it .i remember reading about them in NME where did they come from?
All the songs of Mc carthy are good... perfect guitars

@rockincon Bit harsh on the Manics there mate. I think their versions of Charles Windsor, Red Sleeping Beauty and this song are pretty decent.
