  • Identify the boats by skippers name to add more personable touch to the broadcast commentary. Identify the crews by name too. Tell us about the people first. The more you say their names the more we can get to know and relate to the sailors.

  • The live stream has ended. The on-demand will be posted shortly. Thanks!

  • Is it starting soon ? :P

  • can u see up for the window?

  • ok. looks like starting sequence has started

  • what's going on now? When is the start of the match race?

  • Correction that was Friday

  • Commentary is good but need to always explain things like lay-line to the non sailors in the audience. And try to use more neutral English pronunciation of terms. Was great monday when the commentators were american-- today a good mix though as there are lots of Brits,Ausies and Kiwis, internationals that can relate. GOOD START to better coverage!!

  • I like the checkered finish flags--it will mean more than our usual sailing orange square to non sailors.

  • ils sont pas loin avec le peu d'entrainement sur ce bateau comparer aux top team Oracle, NZ, Artemis ça promet pour les prochains RDV

  • Comment removed

  • Jump Start, back to the line and getting first ... GO KIWIS !

  • Came back from the bay and can't wait to see that magnificant come back.

  • aller la Peyron connection

  • Amazing 3rd race!

  • lol

  • splendide journée de régate, les nouveaux AC 45 sont géniaux trop de la balle !!!

  • Really great work ACTV, EA, RM. Realize this is still early in the game and what a difference the lay days made in these broadcasts. Congrats.

  • so stoked, hope my club can just start putting this up in the bar.... (as the only cat sailor there I have even more reason to have it up...)

  • Thanks AC ;) ..see u tomorrow..

  • Can't wait for tomorrow :D

  • Q VERGUENZA

  • Thanks, AC!

  • GREEN COM DEDICAROS AL PUTO PARCHIS

  • Congrats, ETNZ!

  • puma dont have the tech gear yet i bet

  • Glad to have you join us today (especially those of you at work!) Tune back tomorrow at 14:00 GMT+1 for 3 fleet races and 3 match races

  • PERO QUE PUTO DESASTRE POR DIOS!!

  • ENTZ - what a sensational day for them.

  • thanks AC

  • Much better without MOB.

  • Well done John Craig!

  • quick note, the OR guys are still wearing slam gear... thought they switched to puma....

  • un yop et ca repart

  • Well done again, AC!

  • Really would like to hear their debrief rather than the commentator....while they are still racing.

  • Thanks AC

  • thrashing!!!

  • hmm, fleet racing i rate as an outstanding success, match racing needs a lot of tweaking yet though

  • over 1 minute in cats = an eternity...

  • nice coverage!

  • who is the guest on OR?

  • good race...closewith lots of lead changes until the final leg. I wish I'd had actual money on it

  • thats my question answered!

  • woo go ashby :D

  • go emirates

  • @americascup can you ban people for posting comments here?

  • maybe Jimmy should have gybed when he was first in the breeze on the first downwind and used it to consolidate on NZ. Instead, it blew through him and then NZ got it, I think.

  • 35hours of this fag along

  • Amazing what ETNZ can do with a decent start..

  • because we all race our own boats

  • Just got back from the DMV what did i miss

  • @mrman1872 go back to singing rap

  • so boring and slow

  • ENTZ = rock stars!!

  • how is this fun to watch

  • you do

  • with PaigeBrooks

  • we do

  • yup, agreed

  • who the fuck watches this

  • This feed is going to spoil us - hearing the comments for example from Jimmy after that tack were exactly what we were thinking as we watched it.

  • hm, can be made up by using a lighter platform though?

  • hahahaha Jimmy

  • Less tacks... made the difference again.

  • On OR4, 6th man seemed to be on the weather hull instead of centered

  • too heavy

  • USA fails

  • wing sail is slow on an A Cat

  • damn I want to see ashby sail an a-cat with a wingsail

  • in fast apparent wind sailing, you can sail under someone, and basically park when you just undertake and pop out their bow

  • this is sht

  • race over, nzl gets this, that right side pays off big

  • nice one AmericasCup...we look forward to tomorrow...not sure I'll get much work done though!!!

  • the downwind wind shadow is NOT the same angle as for a mono. the similarity is that they are both in the direction of the apparent wind.

  • @catsailordude agreed, it's what makes downwind so much fun ;-) It's all about getting into the breeze first, either by racing to it first or making sure you get into any new breeze as your followers do

  • Hahaha

  • Sorry, that was supposed to be "good"!

  • would love to see heart rate monitors a la tour de france

  • Humm... this is the opposite from leg 4, I wonder how this one goes.

  • lots of tired sounding guys

  • Three fleet races, and three match races planned for tomorrow - and the breeze tomorrow is looking goof!

  • @ AC thanks, don't worry we've understood..

  • just one sadly :(

  • Just one race today

  • how many match races today?

  • (I'm talking cover in the traditional "cover their wind", not tactical cover)

  • Just manage the lead now!

  • the wind shadow is the same as for a mono, but like shooting at a running deer instead of still one, you have to lead your target by a bit more

  • to cover down wind you actually have to be ahead... more important is leading to the new breeze so you can get your bs up first, which lets you sail lower and closer to the mark while keeping your speed up. Basically drag your apparent wind down towards the gates

  • smooth

  • I am impressed with how those guys can go from mono hulls to multihulls in a year and still be so well oiled and msooth

  • Our commentators are addressing both sailors and non-sailors so they are trying to strike a balance. As promised more to come shortly with more options for you hard-core sailors

  • what's the true wind speed, have they said?

  • yeah, perfect steering

  • ETNZ looks like made the layline again

  • you cannot blanket from behind on these boats, at least not once they are up to speed

  • downwind apparent wind angle is about 40 degrees off the bow

  • i've never understood the wind shadows on these things downwind

  • is Genny seeing these comments as they come in?

  • doesn't change where the wind is coming from

  • yes - surely AWA is waay fwd

  • Genny, keep in mind they are sailing faster then the wind.....

  • Great shots of jK just then - really like we've not ever seen before. AC y'all have done a good job of incorporating the feedback from the weekend. This is grand stuff.

  • Genny's knowledge is not good

  • protect, protect, protect now....

  • genny, apparent wind!

  • it's very important to cover on these boats but also very difficult to keep the opponent covered

  • ha ha ha XD

  • that rounding rocked

  • so cool, love this format

  • who said it was all over after the reaching start!?!?!?!

  • here is some traditional match racing...

  • this is not just drag racing. lots of tactics and way more crosses than with the old keel boats

  • this is good match racing

  • lovely...

  • i take it back

  • yeeeesssss very ggggoooooooodddd

  • awesome stuff

  • great stuff by ETNZ

  • holy crap

  • Hear, Hear, MsFreddu!

  • i think the lead line isn't representing the true wind angle

  • this is fantastic sailing coverage....I have not been this captivated since Quokka's coverage of Whitbread waaaay back

  • @catsailordude- so true. my coach always is yelling VMG during practice to us

  • ETNZ may make the layline

  • Paige, I agree. it's easy to complain but this is all pretty compelling

  • there should be on screen signals showing who is flagging who?!?!

  • Genny's doing a good job and keeping it interesting - if there's stuff she needs to learn, she can do it in about 5 seconds.

  • @ThePaigeBrooks Totally agree, Genny has been the best at this over the past few years from her work with Sailing Anarchy to this, she just needs to go and race some F18s for a bit to fill in the missing gaps... (maybe she has, she definitely knows her stuff)

  • I think they meant drag race, rather than tatcics

  • it's not just boat speed. it's VMG

  • yeah, it's not proper match racing

  • +1 on dual commentary

  • @elitemarineprojects - agreed

  • this is only depending of boat speed, i'm disappointed :)

  • Good thinking, Dean.

  • they almost need two sets of commentary...one set for people who don't know S*%T about sailing, and some sailor commentary for others

  • The commentators don't seem to understand downwind sailing on these boats

  • "The big sail" ? Ugh :P

  • where's the breeze for the upwind geordie?

  • multihulls can create lead changes due to major deltas in boat speeds (and angles) with small changes in wind speeds.

Don't know if Genny has ever sailed an apparent wind boat downwind....

  • wow - lead changes are rampant!

  • virtual spectator not reliable with these angles...

  • f**k off with the idiot commentary

  • just a wring graphic

  • Genny doesn't seem to understand apparent wind blanketing

  • yeh oracle were never ahead were they

  • I think it's a little early to question the reaching starts

  • Go Spithill!!! :)

  • NZL is still in front, they have made their jibe ! What commentators !

  • Too funny - Peter Pan and Wendy....

  • YES! Boat speeds!!! should always be somewhere on screen....

  • go PJ!

  • yeah, not sure about the reaching start for match racing

  • there was plenty of passing between 1 and 2 in the fleet races

  • all over????

  • drag race to the first mark, then its all over

  • oracle have lost it

  • so with this type of match racing start, we really won't see a dial up... ah well

  • thats so stupid

  • the course is the same at the fleet races

  • go the kiwis!!!

  • "Just got the puff first, for fucks sake!" haha

  • man I love Jimmy's swearing!

  • go emirates!!!

  • Any reason for entry at 2 instead of 4?

  • isn't that completely different tactics than an upwind start?

  • reach

  • virtual skipper of 2 boats is a joke

  • is this an upwind start or a reach start like the fleet races?

  • weird start, thank goodness for graphics to explain

  • show us live images@

  • so entry to start was at 2 minutes... interesting change

  • Is there a LOT of bias?

  • On Saturday, just the top six will sail

  • mine is on ETNZ :)

  • it would be nice to highlight the start line boats on the long shots

  • how can they see the start boats with all those spectator boats?

  • nice work ACRM or whoever it is

  • thanks @mxmsj, now I get why they are using a high point system

  • The points accumulated from the three days of match races determine the seeding for the AC Match Race championships on Saturday

  • especially with such little wind

  • this is certainly living up to expectations for some solid yachting coverage of exciting boats

  • virtual eye shows reaching start

  • Mxmsj is correct on the scoring

  • Is it a WL for the match race? Or still a reaching start?

  • thanks @mxmsj

  • Everybody else gets points for the day according to their position after match racing.

  • Winner of this race gets 10 points for the day, loser gets 9.

  • Dirk..

  • Dir de Ridder, dutch, cheese...

  • first seed comes in from stb, hence they will have an advantage

  • one dude on OC4 is called CHEESE ? that was on his back :-O

  • Genny (or anyone) can you explain the points for this regatta, ACWS, etc etc (i.e how does the match racing play into this regatta's points, how does this regatta's results play into the entire series...)

  • i think entz have the boat handling to just hit any part of the line at speed

  • And Ashby is a greater asset than Cheese in this size of boat?

  • same here

  • Are there rules for entering the box? Does the first seed have an advantage?

  • my money is on ETNZ

  • 3 countries have won and defended

  • notably in the a-class catamaran!

  • will there be live onboard feeds for the match races?

  • i think that's what they meant

  • go loick

  • the only country to win it and successfully defend it

  • they probably aren't used to not having an actual bowman on the bow calling the line....

  • but barker for sure

  • Sorry... what about the only country outside the USA ?

  • it's a team

  • I guess well find out very soon actually!

  • solid red if over early

  • Who's the sharper match racer of these two right now?

  • it would make sense to use the course boundary technology for the start line

  • and here comes the "confusing for the general public" racing rules (and I guess confusing for a lot of sailors as well)....

  • all the rc has to do is fly the flag- it's up to you to know if you're ocs or not.

  • I love how the wide shots make these boats look like tricked out f18s...

  • I agree

  • bad communication is not really cool at this level

  • Don't they get official notification from the judges?

  • so... ETNZ wasn't over afteral?

  • Jeez... they circled back when they didn't need to as well!

  • good timing with replay

  • they want the choppers to stay downwind

  • they chop up the breeze

  • are the other two races tomorrow?

  • wow, etnz wasn't over!

  • nks

  • oh....didn't hear that

  • aw

  • What's the complaint about choppers? Wind turbulence? Noise?

  • only one match race due to delays in the starting time

  • OK. I'll take it back, ETNZ... go with a lousy start, and finish strong. Keep doing whatever you're doing, it might just work fine :)

  • @peakfreak that's why we're here!

  • Wow those guys on ENTZ looked pooped. I know we've heard team members complaints about the helicopters, but the shots like that are pretty cool.

  • does the match race have a proper start?

  • @AmericasCup thanks for following up on our questions!

  • The match race is next - should be in another 10 minutes

  • ETNZ v. Spithill, then who are the other 2 match races

  • On the daggerboard question, there is no time restriction for the AC45s, only for the AC72s

  • @AC, when is the match race?

  • What time is the match race today?

  • seriously, have them put that graphic back

  • Bien joué Loic !

  • can anyone tell me if these regattas / results carry through to future events or is this a "one off"

  • put that graphic back

  • oooh... Coutts squeeked in!

  • is it just a single match race?

  • coutts made it, wow

  • Bravo Loîc !!! et and all the Energy Team France !

  • this was the closest race so far by the way, when you look at the first and last over the finish line!

  • jreisberg may 720p + is going PPV?

  • And now we move to the match race of 1 vs 2

  • Bravo Kiwis

  • Wow.. Loick took Spitty

  • also...720p? 480 is cool and all...just saying...but I understand the bandwidth restrictions.

  • @ck5045 especially in multis

  • overall ranking ?

  • 1 more race?

  • oh my bad, thought he meant this race

  • right...

  • don't see how he did, he came in 5th, probably needed a win

  • yes

  • @kilroy - yes

  • as always - boatspeed flatters the tactician

  • my fav use of online feedback is when sailing anarchy (including Genny) watch it and answer questions asked by posters, that way they can stop explaining all the small details and only need to explain stuff when asked

  • coutts 5

  • Did Coutts make top 6?

  • Cascach? Ugh learn to pronounce the city name >_>

  • hear hear, knots!

  • @AmericasCup - options to listen to any of the onboard crews would be amazing...yes, with onboard data!

  • Alain a du mal....

  • and for us sailors (and non), tell us the speed, in graphics, in KNOTS!

  • this going to be epic :D

  • I thought the second place boat fouled after their last tack on the 5th leg. Tacked onto port, failed to clear the 3rd place boat, still on starboard.

  • barker v. spithill!

  • Great TEAM NZ !!!!!

  • very nice race

  • Korea did pretty darned well too

  • _O_ ETNZ

  • AC...I love love love the instant feedback. Really looking forward to the rest of the AC World Series.

  • Ha! Congrats ETNZ!!!

  • good work emirates

  • lee bow is very very hard to pull off in multis

  • agreed

  • great idea on a rights graphic

  • coutts was coming up quick

  • wow... tnz really rocks...

  • i like so much the color line on the water.. it explain better the ship position and the teams strategy so keep it!!

  • More to come on the commentary, our sailing friends. Stay tuned for more options very soon - we hear you!

  • Massively impressive work from ENTZ.

  • un contrôle un peu bas ?

  • a kick ass graphic would be just to highlight the boat who is in the right of way whenever boats are within 2 boats of eachother..... no need to explain, just color it up!

  • lee bow takes balls in these boats..

  • online/you tube = sailors first.... BBC = sports couch potatoes first

  • apparently, etnz has the power to come back from an aggressive start foul!

  • did she just say that it is in the rules to have to lift the windward daggerboard?

  • @SC65CHN808 If I recall correctly, they have 15 secs to lift it. Perhaps Genny will clarify?

  • What I'm saying is there should be an option to turn off commentating, not eliminate it completely. Genny's comment, "Team Korea is showing their form today." That is useless to me.

  • I say get sailors first, then worry about the others

  • keep that hull up deano

  • stunning

  • quit explaining what righsts are EVERY time two boats come together

  • Awesome! @bigbadboomerang

  • The bigger the audience the better... it's tough to get non-sailors into the races.

  • I want one of these magical dolphins to help me out in my own racing...

  • @nilsantana2 technically they all are, as cats are always (almost) sailing on an apparent wind higher then true wind

  • i think it's fine...let's sailors feel superior and maybe explains something to that newbie crew for next race

  • go ENTZ!!!

  • The lines are painted dolphins, hankered down !

  • Ashby's trimming is paying off again. ETNZ is the best team

  • at the very least, people who know what a daggerboard is

  • In NFL football, the NFL channel played a game where there was no commentating, only mike'd up players. I love hearing the boys on board but I can't stand the commmentating. There should be an option to turn off the commentating and only listen the onboard sailors.

  • Wow, ETNZ must be generating it's own breeze!!!

  • I actually disagree that online sailing coverage should "talk to non sailors", I think online it should be completely targeted at sailors

  • ETNZ!

  • korea just parked while tacking, go ETNZ!!

  • yes she did

  • 400m between first and last, seems to become more and more interesting !

  • did she really just say that

  • @bigbadboomerang - they're trying to interest non-sailors, so that's why they have to explain the basic stuff

  • ENTZ is just amazing

  • jesus!

  • no way

  • LOL

  • stop polluting beautiful Cascais with your dirty coloured racing ink for the lines in the water!!

  • you just have to be careful to not snag a daggerboard on the lines

  • man, nfl commentators assume people know what a first down is. assume some minimal base knowledge here too

  • We are sharing comments with the commentators, so keep letting us know what else you want to know!

  • @maritimesailski - they have to spray paint them every few seconds to keep them showing!

  • murray jones is a dinosaur

  • @ abrummitt VIP

  • hahaha

  • PJ: wow, really, the lines aren't on the water? my goodddnesss ;-)

  • go new zealand!

  • We're hearing team Korea at the moment. But we aren't always hearing the lead boat. The commentators let us know when they change feeds, usually.

  • wow TNZ

  • wow, great sailing by ETNZ

  • There is one person mid-stern on each boat. Who are these people, umpires? Media? VIP?

  • @abrummitt They are 'guests' who according to @AC are not allowed to interact with the teams. Bob Fisher was a guest a few days back, you can google about his experience.

  • Easy NZL !

  • agreed, this rocks

  • @ebbotswe completely agree, something the SA guys / girls (Genny) are good at during their own feeds

  • Loving this... last leg will be interesting to say the least

  • once a leg they are contractually obligated to say "gybing is turning with the wind behind you"

  • Pj's classic

  • looks like the inshore gate was the way to go

  • virtual

  • so we are always hearing the one that is in the lead?

  • one guy trying to do it all perhaps...

  • yeah, cirtual eye has spitty in 2nd

  • hm looks like it, ETNZ falling behind again

  • they just seem that they aren't all on the same page. Team China has been making a lot of mistakes

  • is spithill ahead of TNZ?

  • we're haeering korea

  • korea = rich get richer

  • which boat's audio are we HEARING!!?!?!?!?

  • etnz, pure class

  • team china with the kite not sheeted on... what is up with them?

  • this is so sweet!!

  • Has coutts decided to not match race tonight ?

  • WOW... ETNZ....

  • ETNZ needs to improve starts... just sayin'

  • what depth on etnz

  • from 7th to 2nd in 2 legs! :D

  • coutts has had one

  • the way this is going ETNZ is going to head for a winner

  • Chaud à la bouée :)

  • NZL 2!

  • Energy team lost a lot of speed in each of their tack , work to do ...

  • thanks @Paige!

  • OR4 and ETNZ are definitively top teams...

  • having ashby on board is a huge silver bullet

  • if they'd just get a good start for once :P

  • again..

  • Et pan 4 dans les dents !

  • what a comeback by etnz

  • go ashby!

  • ETNZ continues to impress me.

  • etnz

  • ooh ETNZ nice hight!

  • nice move Spitty

  • ETNZ on the glamour tack now..

  • entz has amazing height

  • Dans la boite Loic

  • go jimmy!

  • LOIC you rule !

  • its amazing the speed difference between a bad/downspeed tack and a good one... definitely work to be had on some of these boats w/r to handling

  • LOIC tu déchires !

  • alllez la France !!! Allez l'Energy Team !!!!

  • old ac -> classic dance . new ac -> wrestling

  • They jumped the line

  • at the back!

  • Nice move by Artemis...

  • where's emirates?

  • here comes another one...

  • always looks closer on tv
