not only is this obnoxious to hearing people it is insulting to the intelligence of hearing inpaired whom the producers seemed to think needed narration to SEE what the animals are doing.
@LindaBkrWms it is quite ridiculous. There is another video on my channel where they destroy "The Night Before Christmas". But I also have the full unhacked version of this cartoon. Merry Xmas! -- XmasFLIX.com
This was also shown, without the opening and closing titles [and sign language] on the very first daily 'HOWDY DOODY" show telecast in color on September 5, 1955 (however, the episode itself was preserved on black and white kinescope film!).
I think it's pretty obvious that this kind of thing doesn't work on any level. I mean if I was hearing impaired I'd be completely thrown out of the moment by the people interrupting. Not to mention being deaf wouldn't make it necessicary to have the things you can SEE being told to you.
A rare UK made cartoon, from the Rank Organisation, and the Cookham on Thames studio run by David Hand ex Disney cartoonist. Pity so few are ever shown, and then in this odd form, as cartoons do not need much understanding for the deaf, and subtitled versions of the David Hand cartoons exist in Rank's archives. Ginger Nuts cartoons are classic top quality toons!!!
HOLY CRAP! I've been looking for this cartoon forever! I have not scene it since i was 5! I had it on a public domain christmas tape. Too bad sigh language woman is all over it Awesome animation!
Tonight I'm going to have a nightmare that the only print of "Citizen Kane" that survives is one with sign-language interludes and a green T-shirted man superimposed over everyone's face.
I'm hoping a hearing impaired person will comment at some point and confirm that the interpreters are completely unnecessary. For more pain, check out the other one I have ... I call it "WTF Night Before Christmas". It makes more sense to have sign language, but you can't stop saying WTF. Enjoy!
I wonder if this sign-language version was created to help the hearing-impaired understand it; or if it was created as part of a program to teach sign language. The former purpose would be condescending and unnecessary. (The action doesn't need to be explained and the dialogue can be subtitled.) The latter purpose would be understandable. But I would think anyone trying to learn sign language would be annoyed by a teaching aid like this.

What ever happened to captions? They're easier and faster than sign language anyway. Ah, well.

I am deaf and what this woman is actually doing is making dirty jokes about the sexuality of the characters.

@problem49 the signers were easy to understand and i didn't see any rude or crude comments being made...

Cute cartoon, but I wish it didn't have the unnecessary sign language; it makes it hard to keep watching. Thanks for sharing :)

I know... if I had both, then it would be funny. It is so obnoxious!
Thanks :-)
Merry Xmas!
