First thing, US-Iraq war never officially ended, so there wasn't really any justification needed to go there.

Second thing was that both parties saw the need to finish the job.

and Finally, the million deaths is a completely bogus figure. If you look at the Iraq Body Count project (deaths caused by any violent means), the total sums up to around 150,000. And that includes your typical murders, executions, and violence that doesn't involve the war.

They flooded every news channel in the USA and Britain with 24-hour news reports that Saddam could launch a missile strike against Washington or London within 45 minutes of giving an order. I was 15 at the time and remember it well. They're doing the same thing now with Iran... the same 45 minute missile strike bit.
