"From time to time, to remind ourselves to relax and be peaceful, we may wish to set aside some time for a retreat, a day of mindfulness, when we can walk slowly, smile, drink tea with a friend, enjoy being together as if we are the happiest people on Earth."
@cuckos95 no need to get offended if you did. so, you cannot attain truth trough methods. I can easly find peace if I retire from the society and even then I doubt it. so, what I am saying is that they are all imitating some methods to attain love or whatever personal goals they do desire. retiring from society to a monestary. it's fairly easy. you can do that. but to live in society with love and not following anyone that seems to me fairly difficult. counting breaths doesn't lead anywhere

Thich nhat Hanh is just a propaganda tool for the communist regime in Vietnam. A leader of anti-war movement in Vietnam war, he turned a blind eye to Hue massacre of 5,000 civilians by Vietcong in 1968 and Vietnam invasion and occupation of Cambodia in 1978. In 2005 and 2007 he returned to Vietnam to help the communist regime to improve its bad image for human rights violations and religious oppression so that Vietnam could gain permanent normal trade status with the US.

In 2005 and 2007 Thich Nhat Hanh returned to Vietnam to help the communist regime to improve its bad image for religious oppression. In exchange, the communists promised to allow him to practice religion in Vietnam and establish Bat Nha monastery. But in September 2009, Vietnamese authorities launched a violent crackdown on his followers at the monastery, fearing his popularity among the youth could pose a threat to the communist leadership.
About 380 young monks and nuns who are followers of Buddhist leader Thich Nhat Hanh, have called on the French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, to grant them temporary asylum, after they were forced to flee Bat Nha monastery and repeatedly attacked by vigilantes allegedly hired by the Vietnamese authorities. They say the government regards their leader as a threat to its authority due to his fast-growing popularity among the youth.

I hate this fucking guy. I paid a freaking therapist during eight months to help me with a broken heart and all she did was taking my money, dont giving me any practical advice pushing this mindfulness crap down my throat, it became impossible, as a result I grew frustated, angry and at the end my life started going down hill, starting from my job. Leave this kind of philosophy for the buddists it doesn't work in real life unless you dont care about "homeless but happy"
I have had "success" with mindful movements. I call it swimming. Swimming is very sensual and at the same time it demands ones attention because even breathing becomes a technique. With every movement there is a sense of ease or resistance, balance or imbalance. Speaking ceases and there is only the sounds of the body and the water. It can be a very active way to meditate.
With more & more practice, these methods continue to develop, But it's not magic or cosmic. Practice. You can practice mindfulness with any movement, as shuumai is suggesting. Don't expect much for awhile. Just practice as a regular exercise and after awhile...
You are most welcome. Please look forward to "boring" parts. Those usually indicate you are approaching a doorway, which you'll only know after each time you've passed thru. Savor the boredom parts as yet another phenomenon to really take a "look" at: just what is this "mind" that gets "bored"? Or is it something else getting bored?

in his book he wrote something like...
Thich asked his friend what he thought about when drinking tea.
His friend replied that he thought of what he was going to do after drinking tea
Thich told him he should think of just drinking tea. If not it robs him of living in the present moment and the pleasure of drinking tea

I have found sitting meditation isn't always a relaiable way to restore oneself. I assume that's why Thich Naht Hanh came up with these movements.
Anyone had much success with the mindful movements, (i intend to buy the DVD).
