@Joshonthenet volume swells dude :D Vai or Eddie Van Halen used that too, but squarepusher has some other effects going on there besides the regular swells !!!
@LIGHTRONIX Nothing wrong with what he's wearing, pretty much my standard casual wear. Although I usually wear a pair of clown shoes an some fairy wings made from peacock feathers as well.
hoewer, they could play with a bit of more elan, and it would close more to original , I think..also in classical instruments and orchestral settings , velocity and all other important characters can be expressed.
@tomwhittaker69 - Yes he can. Pay attention to his pinkie finger. That finger looks like it could lift a 25lb weight. Les Claypool also does something really weird with his fingers when he plays & I'd say both of them are the most progressive bass players to date.
wether Squarepusher's techniques are... simple?... to explain. it still has thousands of people watching him and what hes doing, and thats all that matters.
and i think hes the best bass player in the world :)
though I'm not much into rock or metal, the way he presents his music is different from 'most' other artists, and is unique
@RIDDIMWORKS here's some aphex twin track live: youtube.com/watch?v=DP_w_Mvh9tU as you can hear for yourself: it sounds weak although the musicians are quite good.
@ RIDDIMWORKS ...it fit perfectly. but this is electronic music and often extreme inhuman execution is what makes it sound awesome. that's the only reason why i listen to it and not to bands instead: it's a different sound. different tools for different music.
@RIDDIMWORKS, you giant doofus. you wouldn't have a great photographer paint one of his photos... it's just stupid and it adds nothing to it. on the contrary.
bitches brew coulnd't work with sequencers and such since it is supposed to be "humanly" loose and cool and much of that was improvised....
OR HE COULD COUGH UP ENOUGH dosh TO PAY 6 GREAT MUSICIANS TO PLAY his stuff ALL LIVE! now THAT would be a show. what's the point of having a live drummer there if he is just 'playing along' with the laptop sequenced drumtracks? and that screen! it's just visual noise, harsh , abrasive flashing lights, well that's hardly original and ground breaking in 2010! music maker, NOT 'showman', all the slap is such a gimmick for plebs. give us an ALL live show or stay in the studio
dork, who gives a shit about if the stage is crowded with musicians or not? listen to the music. besides, live musicians could never give the vibe that is machine music... the perfection is part of the sound.
"dork"? did you learn english from watching hollywood movies?
"listen to the music"? then why did he go to the trouble of having a whopping great screen to fill space on that big, big stage?
"live musicians could never........." they bloody well could , if you get the right men for the job, this guy can get great players cos they like his music and respect him, its time for squarepusher to make his 'bitches brew' for 2011
if anything he deserves to play bass over his compositions. its the most intricate and complex mother fucking tunes out there today and blows many bands out of the water... he composes his performances in the studio and shows it off, plays a set over it with his LIVE bass playing and puts on a show. its a live performance.
@RIDDIMWORKS LOL! You're pretty funny... But I'm speaking more generally of all his work. Are you denying that he's one of the greatest bass players and composers.
I dunno if you're judging the sound of the concert based on the video, but I know his quality of his recording are great. I think it'd be great to be there... but I submit that it boils down to preference and opinion. I don't think you can say he sucks as a musician, so quit hating so much ;x
it's not hate , don't be so melodramatic, I like his stuff , i jsut wish he would make some melodic tunes more often , like 'my sound' and 'theme', i like weather report and hear jaco in his playing loads i am from same town and the roland 101 synth he uses used to belong to me but i sold it to the music shop in town .
I never said he "sucks" , I just know he can do SO MUCH more. I want him to excell so i can enjoy his works. glad you see the humour in my comments, it's a ride....
Great vid! But wheres Alex? Im looking for some live videos of him on the drums. Cant find any. Saw them In Primavera Sounds in Barcelona and it was sick!
Hahaha best top comment I have ever read.

When he came on he said it was a collection of unrelesed old stuff that he produced back in the day. Hense the old school get up!

I heard he can play some slap bass notes with his left hand? Whilst he is still playing with his right hand. I cant confirm this, however.
