This was probably a Clark Gillies well past his prime. Had they each fought in their prime against each other, it probably would have been a great fight. Clarke Gillies was one powerful man.
What are are you basing that on?? Probert literally fought ever enforcer in the league!! And we all know the players are bigger and stronger ( don't recall much steroid talk back in the 70s and 80s (Gillies' prime) . Probert was 6'4...taller than Gillies....Probert considered by ,many as the toughest of all time!! That includes enforcers and experts!
@spadesjim I'll give you a logical argument. When guys hit Probert hard Probert went away. Ewen, Morrisette, Laus, Belanger, Simon, etc, etc, etc. The best argument is the way Gillies looks at Probert here -- Probert doesn't even have the balls to wait for Gillies to drop his gloves before wanting to jump him. Pathetic. Gillies would have hit Probert with 3 hard punches and Probert would have been done; might have had to break Probert's face like Ed Hospodar's
@SweetTooth44 Yes he is. Notice how his post below is full of BS speculation and assumptions? That's what he does. He is also a coward who shit talks people because he lives in the Cayman Islands where he will never have to back it up. You're absolutely right: no one likes him. Look at his profile: NO FRIENDS and NO SUBSCRIBERS. He mocks Probert for losing fights long after Probert passed his prime and thinks half the fights Probert won were somehow losses.
@SCROGY should I assume why Probert jumped Gillies here without giving Gillies a chance to even get his gloves off? Gillies would have busted Probert's face like he did to Ed Hospodar; no assumption needed. Probert couldn't even stand up to the punching power of legendary fighters like Chris Tamer, Ken Belanger, or Dave Morrisette. You're still crying the blues because I've proven that Probert isn't top 5 all-time?? Poor baby -- why don't you get a job and get over it??
@justice008a No, you're basing your judgement off an over the hill Probert instead of a PRIME Probert. That's what you don't understand. It's why Leon Spinks ISN'T better than Ali. Why Louis can't be judged by his KO loss to Marciano and why Randy Couture hasn't had a win streak over 3 fights in six years. Fighters age and lose the fire. They ALL do. Prime Probert against Prime Gillies would have been a destruction of Gillies had the refs stepped back and let them go until they tired.
@SCROGY You don't understand history or facts. Marciano beat Louis. Marciano is the ONLY undefeated heavyweight champion in history; facts no matter how you want to colour them. Probert lost 50+ NHL fights -- quite a few to guys with no status like Tamer, Morrisette, and Belanger. Since he couldn't handle those guys (FACT) you have no basis to argue "a destruction of Gillies" because Gillies was never destroyed. Beaten soundly by Behn Wilson, but Wilson is FAR out of Probert's league
@justice008a And it was a FACT that Louis was an old man when he lost to Marciano. And it was a fact that 95% of the men Marciano beat were washed up old men (Walcott, Louis, Moore). He never beat a single good young HW. And it is also NOT a fact that Probert lost 50+ NHL fights. Most of the fights YOU think he lost he won. Sure, he started losing more when he got older but so what? You compare fighters in their Primes. You don't compare a 24 year old Probert to a 40 year old Bob Nystrom.
@justice008a And if Wilson is far out of Proberts league how come he didn't completely take Bobby apart in their fight? It wasn't even a good fight and was at best a draw for Wilson.
@SCROGY you do understand that Marciano blasted Joe Louis through the ropes and out of the ring when he knocked him out right? Louis was 37; how old was George Foreman when he won the heavyweight championship for the 2nd time? He was 45 -- more facts for you. Go back and watch what "Bobby's" head does every time Wilson lifts his right hand in their fight after Wilson jackhammered his face with one big shot. Probert doesn't throw a single punch until the linesmen come in to hold on for him
@justice008a Yes and Louis was very shop worn when Marciano beat him. He had been champ for 140 months and made 25 title defenses. He was MUCH older than his age. Foreman on the other hand took a break from boxing after losing to Ali then Jimmy Young. And you're seeing what you want to see in that Wilson fight. Neither one of them landed anything. Try slo mo. Even if Wilson did land anything, Bobby like Kocur was always willing to take shots to either let the other guy tire or so........
@justice008a .....they could land the one big shot. Too many times the refs stepped in before Probert started his comeback. Often times I think they did it to save the other guy. Watch the Dean Kennedy fight. Probie never throws a punch for 2 minutes yet as soon as he decides he's had enough of Kennedy's pillow punches, he loads up and Dean turtles. So who wins? In my books Probert. And that brings me to another point. Look at K-1. You think the fact that fighter A beats fighter B......
@justice008a .......means fighter A is better? Then Bob Sapp must be a better kick boxer than Ernesto Hoost right? I mean Bob beat him right? NO WAY is Sapp a better kick boxer. Bob only beat a long over the hill Hoost who had left it all in the ring. No sane person would ever think that Sapp could beat a prime Hoost. Just like no sane person would think that Ken Belanger would beat a prime Probert. Since you're so obsessed with records, then any WW MMA fighter that is 2-0 must be.......
@justice008a ........better than GSP because he's lost twice right? Records don't mean as much as WHO you fight. If you fight a bunch of puds, then you can't really claim to be the best can you? That's why Marciano isn't considered the best HW even with his unbeaten record. He beat a bunch of old men and journeymen fighters. He never faced a really good, fast, tough young HW. And it's laughable that you suggest Probert needed the linsemen's help.............
@justice008a That fight was a joke and Wilson didn't land anything (niether one of them did). Probert has been on the bad end of FAR worse fights than the Wilson fight and has come back to crush the guy. Many fighters were beating Bobby badly before getting demolished in the later rounds. I suppose you think if a guy lands one quick shot and the refs jump in, that's a win? Lame. As far as Wilson goes he isn't the best by YOUR logic. Wensink, Fotiu, or any of the guys that beat him are.
@SCROGY by my logic Wilson lost 4 fights in his career; Probert lost more than 50. Probert's W-L ratio was barely 3:1 -- Playfair, Gillies, Brown and Wilson were all better than 10 wins for every loss. Don't claim calibre of opposition because Probert lost to quite a few fire hydrants
@justice008a And by everyone elses logic you're totally wrong because we all know you like Wilson and dislike Probert. You have Probert losing fights he clearly won. You also give draws to Proberts opponent and then proceed to give draws to Wilson. The rest of us are not so biased. We aren't going to agree so let's drop it. In fact I don't know why you even started this crap up again after what? Four months?
@SCROGY you start it up by chatting with your "new buddies" on here and trash talking me without addressing me personally. You go ahead and tell me which fights Probert "clearly won" that I have him losing. The one where Belanger outlanded Probert 30-0? Where Laus busted Probert open and ragdolled him? Where Ewen floored him and Probert was on his knees for 45 seconds? Where Tamer or Morrisette dropped him with one punch? Which of these did "Bobby" clearly win? You're the biased one.
@justice008a No, you responded to a post of mine that was 4 months old. The topic had died long ago. And your attitude is why A) No one here likes to debate with you, and B) No one here agrees with you. I don't address you personally because I know what you are like and I am usually warning people not to get sucked into arguing with you because it's a dead end street. You have your opinions but you're not at all diplomatic when it comes to expressing them.
@SCROGY then graduate from junior high school; if you wanna trash talk me do it toward me. Anything else is juvenile. I'm sure if you want me to prove my point I can go back though all of your comment threads with others and make all sorts of new "youtube friends" and agree with whatever opposite viewpoint they have from yours. Believe me, from what I've seen of your comments so far, I'll bet there are plenty of people who do not share your opinions
@justice008a You think I'm juvinile? Maybe you should go back through all your own posts and take a look at why so many people here hold that opinion of you. How many people think you have an irrational love for Behn Wilson? How many people think you are a poor judge of fights (actually it's more like bias than bad judgement)? How many people think you have terrible logic? The problem is that you can't see your own bias. And if someone doesn't agree with you you become hostile............
@justice008a ...............and again I'm not trash talking YOU. I am warning people that any debate with you concerning Behn Wilson or Bob Probert isn't worth the trouble. That's not trash talking. That's just a warning to stay away from debating with you because you can't do it rationally. What would be the point of talking towards you if I am trying to save someone else the bother of debating you? If you want to debate sensibly, fine, I'll do it, but there was a reason I stopped before.
@SCROGY 4 losses against 50+ losses and better than 10:1 W-L ratio vs barely a 3:1 for Probert and pointing out all the fights Probert was beaten, pounded and demoralized beyond any beating Playfair, Gillies, or Wilson ever took is sensible debating. Your assertion that "the linesmen came in to save those guys before Probert had a chance to take over the fight" -- that's not sensible. A reasonable person would chuckle. As I said, some people are ignorant of the facts; you choose to be stupid
@justice008a Except that Wilsons 4 losses and Proberts 50+ losses are you OPINION. And no one else agrees with you. Like I said, your bias shows because at least half the fights you claim Probert lost he didn't. And many of the "wins" you credit Wilson with were not wins at all. Not only that but Wilson punked out of his career and quit playing instead of continuing on like Probert did. Not only that but Wilsons loss to Fotiu was one of the worst beatings in history........
@justice008a ...........not to mention the fact that won-loss ratio doesn't tell the whole story because if you had 1 fight and won it, then your won-lost ratio would be perfect and by your logic you would be a better fighter than Behn Wilson. You can call me stupid, but at least I am not the kind of coward that resorts to insults over the internet to prove a point. I know I have you right where I want you when you resort to Ad Hominem attacks......;)
@justice008a Probert always fought against toughest guys IMO and his win% is good IMO. Its very impressive and Browns win% isnt much better IMO and his fight-card isnt as good as Probies own.
Probert meeted all toughest guys in his career, fought against all tough guys.
Brown has too many routine wins against second tiers punching bags such as Cam Russel,as well as Zemlak,Frawley,Jennings,Caufield,Warren Young, and all those goon wannabes that Pittsburgh would feed him.
If this fight went the distance, you may have to tip it in favor of Probert. That guy just never quit. But, if it were to be a fight of power, Gillies may take the bout. Now if Gillies and Kocur were to fight.... I dont know. I have seen Kocur knock people out on more than 1 occasion with that heavy right hand of his. It would have been a great fight either way. Gillies may have been an UNDER RATED FIGHTER. Boy can he Punch too!!!
I dont know how you can say Kocur was a Joke. That guy ended people's careers. Even the Great Scotty Bowman says the same thing. Plus, I dont need Scotty Bowman to tell me that since Ive witnessed Kocur literally knock people out!!!!
kocur was a bad dude who could hit no doubt about that.....but i will say he had a lot of boring draws and most of his devastating KO's were against bums......not saying he wasn't tough, just throwing that out there
@TheApothocary I saw Proby fight Kocur and it was pretty much even. Kocur never got to land the KO punch. I Love Kocur and Proby!!! Those 2 guys can really hurt people.
@Herbonator200 while Kocur has the best punch in NHL history, he got his ass handed to him by guys like Dave Richter and Hal Gill. Joey will always be thought of as the best puncher, but not the best fighter.
@cjwoot Great reference with DYG. Too bad that website has viruses on it, or I would still use it. Kocur is right up their with Dave Brown and Behn Wilson for win percentage.
@Pat5251976 No bombs thrown, but the vid wasn't a total waste of time. Check out the look on Jethro at 0:14. That's probably the closest that Probie ever came to pooping his hockey pants in his entire short life. There's not too many guys that he wouldn't chirp at, but as you can see, Bob gave Gillies the respect he deserved when they were tied up and nose to nose. Goddamn... those two guys in a full blown 60 second tilt...can you imagine? Everyone in the first three rows would be painted red.
Why do people ask this question? As if the other guy in the heat of battle would just stay back and say "OK Bob take that helmet off. I won't punch the crap out of you while you do it".
i am red wings fan, loving Bob, but in this case, i think Gillies would have won... But, against other half of ''Bruise Brothers'', Kocur... Not so sure...
no way,,this was changing of the guard..old school tough with the new, huge nhl enforcer. gillies was great player/fighter, but couldn not hang with probie.
Nyerinmo...okay, I can live with that. Gillies was a great player who had over 90 points one season...you're right.
But Probie had 29 goals one year too...he was a decent hockey player in my opinion....So go open up your 1980 Hockey News with the centre-fold of Clark Gillies and carry on with what you were doing.
ggtrains: Gillies wasn't a big point-getter. He wasn't Gretzky or Lemieux. That wasn't his role. He played big and physical and scored 319 goals. 697 points. Scored 47 playoff goals. Won 4 Cups. Probert only had 164 goals in 16 seasons. 16 playoff goals. 384 points.
Decent players?? Gillies is in the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame! Anyone think Probert will be inducted? Calling a HOF player decent, putting them in the same catagory of players..... PLEASE!!!!
lets take a close look at the brains here!....lol

@TheApothocary I saw Proby fight Kocur and it was pretty much even. Kocur never got to land the KO punch. I Love Kocur and Proby!!! Those 2 guys can really hurt people.
Herbonator200 1 year ago
@Herbonator200 while Kocur has the best punch in NHL history, he got his ass handed to him by guys like Dave Richter and Hal Gill. Joey will always be thought of as the best puncher, but not the best fighter.

@Herbonator200 Kocur retired more people than social security, lol!!

maybe you need to check DYG...as I recall Kocurs career record was around 137-18-61....with many TKO/KO's.

what is DTG, what was Fotiu's record?
dtrrose 2 years ago
@cjwoot Great reference with DYG. Too bad that website has viruses on it, or I would still use it. Kocur is right up their with Dave Brown and Behn Wilson for win percentage.

@HeavyD2544 ya I noticed that too and had to stop using it...I liked the site as well its too bad

if you think kocur is a joke,,you have never seen a hockey game.......ever.

what a waste of time. You jerked me off with this video.

If Probie was so tough, why didn't he have the courtesy or decency to remove his helmet???????? ha
tCROSSt 3 years ago
Why do people ask this question? As if the other guy in the heat of battle would just stay back and say "OK Bob take that helmet off. I won't punch the crap out of you while you do it".
JimR541 2 years ago
i am red wings fan, loving Bob, but in this case, i think Gillies would have won... But, against other half of ''Bruise Brothers'', Kocur... Not so sure...

This comment has received too many negative votes show
probert better snort a few more lines if if he thinks he can tango with gillies. gillies would mop the ice with probert
night2day6969 3 years ago
I doubt that very much if you notice Gillies was the one holding on.

@night2day6969
no way,,this was changing of the guard..old school tough with the new, huge nhl enforcer. gillies was great player/fighter, but couldn not hang with probie.
byramtax 2 years ago
probie wants to get some big names on his resume!
ghytgb 3 years ago
Nyerinmo...okay, I can live with that. Gillies was a great player who had over 90 points one season...you're right.
But Probie had 29 goals one year too...he was a decent hockey player in my opinion....So go open up your 1980 Hockey News with the centre-fold of Clark Gillies and carry on with what you were doing.
ggtrains 3 years ago
ggtrains: Gillies wasn't a big point-getter. He wasn't Gretzky or Lemieux. That wasn't his role. He played big and physical and scored 319 goals. 697 points. Scored 47 playoff goals. Won 4 Cups. Probert only had 164 goals in 16 seasons. 16 playoff goals. 384 points.
HolyHellPreacher 3 years ago
Two legends of fisticuffs....both decent players too. Terrible fight but just the fact they crossed paths is kind of cool.

Decent players?? Gillies is in the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame! Anyone think Probert will be inducted? Calling a HOF player decent, putting them in the same catagory of players..... PLEASE!!!!

hi skippy.........lol
