You should have called the police. Going through all this with him for so long is ridiculous. Especially considering the way the video ends. That could have gotten really dangerous for you! I don't know what brought this all about, BUT no matter the reason (not paying rent, land is crazy, whatever) you must legally have someone evicted. No landlord can evict a tenant themselves. A landlord cannot make you leave by changing the locks or shutting off utilities.

If he had done that here in the state of Florida his ass would be in jail and he would have to post bond or see the judge before he gets out. After that the judge will order him to stay at least 100 feet from you and will not be able to enter the apt unless you give him permission.

rotfl! Had he done that in this state I would have had his ass. 1) you cannot evict someone without a court order. You cannot enter the premises until after the eviction by court order. a 3 day pay or quit notice is NOT an eviction. It's a notice to pay or quit. The eviction process on average takes 30 to 40 days. If he was evicting you after the court order a peace officer is usually the best. What that guy did is clearly illegal as hell.

This tenant should look up her tenant rights before she spouts them out. In Texas, the landlord can change the locks.

However, he must post notice of what he is about to do. He must also give her a key or make arrangement for when she can pick up the keys.

This is all too common in California where rent control limits a landlord to raise rent only 4% per year unless after a year the renter moves. There's a tenant here whose been tearing down his apartment walls, screaming, drunk, banging on other tenants doors...I'm a fellow tenant contacted the superintendant, building manager and the police. It's been over 3 months now -- nothing's done! I haven't slept in over a week as this drunk does this NIGHTLY 3am-7am. No exaggeration.
