@SuzLa1 I'm not sure what colour my eyes would be if I didn't have albinism. My name does sound Arabic because I was born in Pakistan. I have never throught about dying anything on my body, I like my hair colour just the way it is. And yes, I am VERY proud of being albino. :)

To be honest, I still cannot understand how come that albinism and nystagmus are connected... I also read about aniridia (a condition when there's no iris in the eye) which is also often accompanied by nystagmus. I simply cannot see the connection between the lack of pigment and eye muscles' behavior. A real mystery. :-) Is there any reasonable explanation?

@majklvp That's a very good question, and unfortunately, I don't have a reasonable answer for you, but I suppose the nystagmus has a lot to do with the development of the eye and also the shape of the eye. I wouldn't want to give you false or misleading information so this is as far as I'm going to comment on this.

Thank you for your answer. It is actually quite helpful, because it has made consider the impaired vision caused by e.g. albinism or aniridia and think of the nystagmus as a consequence (not as a a cause). It then looks like the photophobic eyes try to avoid light by a smooth pursuit in one direction, whereas the brain keeps them under control and turns them back with the saccadic movement, and this all results in the involuntary, yet sort for habitual movement. Just my theory. :)

@majklvp I don't know the exact answer, but I'm a neuroscience student and my first guess would be that the poorer vision due to defects starting at birth might cause the brain to make the eyes scan the area more as an attempt to get a more accurate picture of the world. Even healthy individuals with perfect sight involuntarily move their eyes to give the brain a clearer picture. My guess would be that these disorders made the brain compensate for that by scanning a bit more. I'm not sure tho.

Thank you. I'm not at all from the field, so I was just guessing (in fact I study foreign languages incl. English :-) ). You may be right. Isn't that true that we all actually encounter nystagmus when we close our eyelids? Or maybe not exactly nystagmus, but some kind of involuntary eye movement... at least I cannot control my eye movement when closed... :-) That might be more or less the same situtation...

nice, I didn't know that. I give you my feelings on "this side". I just found myself like searching for a point of reference when looking to a face like yours, and I also have the impression I react by reflex closing my eyes like if there were too much ambient light. Monkey see monkey do. Perhaps there is also, a reaction on my face like saying "ouch! that should hurts", or "there is something wrong with this guy". I'm albino too! I had the same thing with the eyes settling in color. My mother told me eyes were pink, but the grey settled in after about a year.

I developed an inner ear dysfunction a couple of years ago that causes nystagmus. While I was researching my eye condition I was surprised to read that people with albinism commonly have nystagmus as well. And as all things involving the internet go, this led to me researching albinism in general; it's really a shame in this day and age that the condition is still so poorly represented in entertainment (why are they always villains?). Anyway, you really have gorgeous eyes. Thanks for sharing!

I love Albinos. I did a biology project on them, and the different types of albinism there are, and the different medical conditions they have, etc. I think it's amazing how you need two mutated genes just to be albino. You guys are so unique, I wanna marry one <3 People think I am one because I'm so pale and I have the eyes, but I don't have the redness of the eyes, or any other thing that makes you an albino.
