I just got a '02 P71 about 4 weeks ago w/ 117k miles on it. It doesn't run very well when on the road, but sounds really good when parked and I have the 02 sensors out. Sounds just like yours. Getting some new 02 sensors, so hopefully, that will solve the problem and I can get out on the road for sure.

When you say, open exhaust, are you saying you took the mufflers out or did you have the 02 sensors out?

Sounds powerful and looks fast, but with only a 235 HP motor, how fast can it really be? I have an 85 corvette stock 230 hp, with chip, 270 hp and a 99 Olds Aurora stock 250 hp. Both lighter cars and can light up the asphalt (probably mop up the highway with the Crown Vic).

@ysgeye1 well not so much. the P71 Police engine comes with much more than a stock vic. Tuning, PI Heads, Better intake. & last dyno was 390hp & 460tq at the rear wheel.

@SuperMan88Strong Well to fix mine I had to upgrade the transmission & I removed the 3:27 gears & installed 4:10's. Really you have no need to mess with the injectors unless you add a power adder. (NOS, Supercharger, Turbo)

@SuperMan88Strong If you haven't already, check the MAF. I was having the same problems on my 1996 and the sensor was all gunked up. You can get MAF cleaner at autozone or something for a few bucks. easy fix if thats the problem.

That is an amazing Car. You had to have modified that engine. My first car was a crown Vic. I got it in 96. It was an 88. Everything worked perfect. I am not sure if it was a Police Package though. The engine was 5.0 litres though. People would make fun of it and call it 5 points slow. I switched out the exhaust and air filter for K and N. I was an 18 year old EMT back then. People called it 5 points slow. However once I finished EVOC. I put Ceramic brakes,Brand new tires and it flew.

@C06coolvette they're calledhood latches. you can get the real thing or if ya want it just for looks they got fake ones that stick on. the real ones just help your hood stay on a lil bit better when these cars take 180mph roadtrips.

they stopped calling it the P71 after the 1997 model year, 1998 and later is simply the police interceptor.

@KLewisChef The Reason why they are called p71s or p7 anything is because of the VIN number, Those numbers have the letter P followed by the numbers 71-74 depending on the sub model of the Vic. Mines an LX and it has P74. That's how it is. so yeah they are called p71s.
