I love that this video says that even though Hayek and Keynes are opposing economists in their view points they can sit down and have dinner together. This is a lesson in setting aside differences that I wish more people practiced. It's all right to disagree and still get along with one another!
@vigilantpursuit There's a reason for that, y'know. Hayek's generally presented as the correct, but socially awkward one while Keynes is the popular guy who makes dumb decisions. Which is a fairly accurate portrayal, actually...
@MEIZimm oh god. i KNOW i'm going to start a shitstorm. but keynes was a smart guy too; you can't say he made dumb decisions. the dude came up with macroeconomics for god's sake. milton friedman had great things to say about keynes. i'm not saying i support him, but all there's too much undue bias against keynes. all i'm saying is that things should be balanced.
I KEYNES (CANS) ECON sounds like a lolcats spin, whereas I HAYEK ECON sounds like an awkward, reaching (command-elliptical?) take on I HACK ECON. Would I really be proud to wear this at DAVOS?
Why do these videos imply that it was Keynesian economics that caused and perpetuated the global financial crisis, when it was rather Hayekian neoliberalism in the Thatcher/Reagan era; in fact, it's probably the endorsement of individualism and negative liberty that Hayek actually advocates that has splintered our social and economic structures.
@Jaygull bail outs, they knew they were getting them. Plus they were rigging the market and prevent a free market from happening. Keynesian too easily encourage crony capitalism. 1920 was also era of corruption. before the great depression there was another depression but since government did not intervene it last only six years. the great depression lasted 15 years due to government intervention.
@Jaygull I see, so you would maintain that the growth of government financed with deficit spending that happened in the 1980's somehow caused the crash of 2008. Admittedly the debt accrued during that period did have a small amount of effect. But these crashes are for the most part the result of of an equilibrium mismatch in the supply and demand for true savings caused by government mandated central planners 'setting' the price for capital below it's equilibrium point.
@derekuli I was in the audience at a speech Krugman gave a few years ago in which he proudly proclaimed, "Keynes is my hero." You do not get more Keynesian than Krugman.
@Andronichuk no the Austrian economist knows to go down the street because any the restaurant who would skimp on one thing are the same that will skimp on everything never a good meal believe me I know...enjoy your wine:)
You dirty bastards! You knew I was going to buy that shirt didn't you. You're lucky I already maxed out my donation to Ron Paul, or else I would have given him that $25 instead of you!
I shall use my deferred consumption to buy this shirt because it is high on my value scale and I have a high time preference for feeling awesome. See what I did there?
Dang. I waited too long & all the mediums are sold out. Could you please make more mediums?

They should have a video where Hayek starves himself to death while he waits for aggregate supply to shift.

So Keynes is being blames for deregulation while Hayek is landed with 'expansionary austerity' and the confidence fairy.
And Princess Leia is a galactic terrorist who blows up planets!

A waiter in a restaurant brings over a wine glass and fills it halfway up.
The optimist thinks the glass is half-full.
The pessimist thinks the glass is half-empty.
The Austrian economist thinks the restaurant industry has malinvested its capital into oversized glassware, probably caused by the Fed.
Andronichuk 2 months ago 33
