why are there so many huntsmen spiders with only 7 legs... I've seen many of them and most of them only had 7 legs! and its always been in the same spot on the right side! Is there an explanation for this =/?

Not many people see when a spider is missing a leg, you're very observative.

They can do something called autotomy (auto=self tom=cut) and throw away individual legs when they get scared, particularly, when you hold on to one of the legs.

it's quite common in the animal kingdom, even Lizards throw away their tail, usually only animals who can afford to lose some actually autotomize legs, grasshoppers, centipedes, spiders, opiliones (daddy longleg relatives) etc. My Anthropology prof. even referred to losing the mammal placenta after birth as autotomy (though I can hardly see an advantage in keeping it...)
