Being, at present, Muay Thai (albeit amateur) practitioner from a San Soo background, I can honestly say that the mindset and techniques from San Soo are 100% real world applicable. The philosophy taught is priceless. My old Sifu put it quite concisely, "fighting's an ugly thing. You may defeat your enemy, but no one really "wins". But, if you're left with no other options, attack fast, hard, and don't get any on your shoes."
After a feeble, one move "assault" the attacker goes basically limp and allows the defender to toy with the attacker. This is dead training. Keep it real men.
@DeutcherKonnig not true, their first attacks are throat or groin, most of them anyway. that as your first attack will buy you a couple seconds sometimes more
@drrabbihjohnson I am always cruising san soo Vids and you never have a positive comment. I checked out your deathshead videos. they were lame. while you are training full contact with pads on, avoiding the throat and temple, others who have respect for the true art are training to kill. That back yard bull crap does no justice to master woo or the way of life that is San Soo. Which I presume is why the guys on the vid wear masks to hide their identity. I would to if I was so disrespectful.
@84nonis Than any man in our generation in the USA. I know this because my father was from the Jimmy Woo Association then received his Masters from Dave Carter. Dave Carter was in line for Grand Master but race got in the way, but in the world of San Soo there is no Master that didn't fear Dave Carter
NIcely done. I've personally seen San Soo work in real life situations, and have used it myself. Ya, I've never used the more advanced techniques in real life and its never gone like a demo, but the basics are always there. It just becomes a part of you, muscle memory. I remember the first time I didn't realize I had used the techniques until it was over. People can hate all they want, but they're obviously ignorant. I know San Soo works and thats all that matters.
Only the intellectually challenged would not be able to comprehend the high level of martial arts contained within the system of Kung Fu San Soo. When practicing a series of strikes, it is not as if we solely practice within the confines of the one set pattern. We practice as such that the pattern can be adjusted with brutal effectiveness no matter how the attacker responds to our defense. People who lack the intellectual fortitude for San Soo will never understand it and only get lesser arts.
Ooh! I've never heard of this one before, and trawling the internet for martial arts info and other weird, pointless things I'll probably never have to use in my life is practically a second life for me!
Anyone here do San Soo? Is it effective for the street?
My neighbor introduced me to Kung Fu San Soo awhile back, but I didn't realize how incredible it was, i get so restless when i watch these videos :).. I've been looking for the right martial art for me for awhile now, but none of the ones I have checked out really fit me ( not that i know all that much about those martial arts to begin with) . I feel that this martial art is the one.. The next step is to find a master who will kick my ass with training =P
anybody can say about any martial art, if this art survived for so many years and is reconized by a federation and by doccuments any shitty boy can say that this isnt good because he dont have the right of even talk about this
You just saw how to kill someone. People may not understand how deadly those moves really until they learn what it does to the body. I take Kung Fu San Soo and i'm astonished by what i'm learning.
well, crap, why train at all then?? i mean in every style there are combinations set up against scripted attacks. i wish you people would take this video for what it is and that is for demo purposes. for those of you that have never actually stepped foot inside a san soo school to train and sit here demeaning the art, you should exit this conversation because you have no idea what you are talking about. san soo is a very effective combat fighting system. try it sometime and you'll see.
@Sheadrummer42 Just like they can't compete to show how badass they are. RIGHT. Remember Larry Wikel and his "deadly" fighters that got their asses handed to them in 1975? The only way any of this chaining crap would work is if every person in the world reacted to getting hit the exact same way. Not gonna happen. You would think they would be more than willing to show how "brutal" their shit art is at least just once to make people like myself shut the hell up.
In a real fight situation they would not be able to chain that many moves together because the guy would be on the floor after the first 2 to 3 moves. It is a demonstration after all to show how moves are chained together.
When you compete there are rules, which restricts what you are able to do. How can you compete today to show the real scope of this art? Answer... you can't.
Instead of running people down, dedicate yourself to being the best you can be, in yours.
In ANY art, in ANY fight situation there is always a chance you may miss. That is why you have to practice and visualize as much as you can. You should know this, that is why the guys shown in the video obviously have practiced for a long time, again it is a demo and not to be taken as a representation of what would happen in a real fight.
As far as your comment on reaction, you are right not everyone behaves the same. Im sure these guys practice for that also.
@ZachMac209 on the contrary every man I have hit in the throat always grabs their throat, lol and every time i get hit in the groan I bend the same way, as well as sternum attacks.
@cdx16 thank you for responding. I didnt know that. Interesting. Are you training in any styles? I am in, shaolin, wing chun, and a little drunk style.
@Daniel54939 that dosent work Daniel i shit you not. Haha unless you go to the Temple in China beleive you me you are gonna get your ass kicked in the street and your gonna lose money.
@ss5dojo San Soo is a dirty fighting style. We cheapshot, bite, claw, pull hair, etc. The beauty is that when these techniques are properly executed, it doesn't matter how seasoned your opponent is. You can TRY to block and fight back but I'm going to have inside leverage on you and will own you especially on the streets. You can throw a 1-2 combo but after your 1 comes in you won't have a chance to connect with 2 because your knee will be busted or your trachea will be crushed. Its how we train
@ss5dojo no not at all. you see the exaggeration of the punches, the strikes aren't deep, the throws are not full commit. you don't see the attacker showing intent to hit. these moves ARE VERY effective especially when done at full speed. the unfortunate thing about this art (if there is such a thing) is that training full speed all the time you or your partner will be broken and you can't continue to train. you need to know what it's like to get hit so you must train close to the edge.
@ss5dojo I totally agree with you about the quality of vids on youtube. I was recently with a huge number of students from around the country. During some of our conversations I asked some of them how long they have been practicing San Soo; most said 2-3 years and they had their black belts. It will take you minimum of six years to get your black belt through my school and even then the test ranges from 8-12 hours and it is literally full speed, full contact fighting.
@shonuff6699 i dont go by belts i go by experience. but if i did have a belt it would probably be yellow. and iv been training since i was 4 (im 18 now). these american style kung fu teaches how easy it is to get belts. 6 years to make a black belt is a disgrace to those who actually earned it. try 40 years of intense training. then will anyone be worthy of a true Kung Fu black belt.
@marineboy090@marineboy090 really?? you do realize that San Soo is a Chinese combat fighting style, right?? You do realize that the only reason San Soo has a belt ranking system is because Lo Sifu Jimmy H. Woo felt the need to do so in order get students in the door (people knew about Karate back then, not Kung Fu). I could care less what belt I have because the only thing that matters is that I can take care of myself in the streets which is what San Soo is all about.
@shonuff6699 yes im not stupid. im 3rd gen of Chin Siu Dek. really there are no belts in kung fu but like you said, people knew american karate so they were comfortable with the belts. im just commenting kuz you said people got thier belts withing 2 years. and i didnt know that.. and it shocked me.
@marineboy090 i never said you were stupid. you remarked about the "American Kung Fu" so that's why i responded the way i did. i agree completely with the shock of seeing some of these "black belts". some of them are very legit and some of them not so much. i don't want a black belt unless i've truly earned it. there are too many schools that give move you through the ranks because you went to a certain number of classes and paid a certain amount of money.
@marineboy090 In the Kung Fu San Soo I learn belts take years to gain. You can try for your first belt after about a year and half. You have to know like three hand forms and two weapons forms. Also you have to be able to do a certain ammount of techniques and combinations of techniques. We are less formal however, we do not wear a gi because in a real life situation your opponent will not be wearing one.
@lordalleroc its different to every master how belts are given. really, belts shouldnt even exist. especially if you dont believe in wearing a gi. a gi is simply a tradition. i dont really wear a gi unless im performing something for someone, then i wear it as a respect to the art and to those dedicated lives that were lost creating this beautiful art... thats just how i look at it anyway.
most complete and downright devastating fighting systems in existence. I respect MMA, we have MMA fighters at our gym, but they never want to roll with us because we don't wear pads and we really strike, choke, gouge , leverage, throw, etc. They don't like the fact that we don't fight within a rule structure, that there is no referee, and that there is no bell to save them. I can't even begin to count how many times the "that'll never work on me" statement has been made only to hear the very s
Anyone that doubts the effectiveness of San Soo is making a terrible mistake. Just as Lo Sifu Jimmy Woo used to say, never insult or otherwise disparage another mans art because he may kill you with it. The moves shown here are meant for show. If you were to go to a real San Soo class you would see an incredibly brutal and efficient combat martial art. Ask my wrists, legs, ribs, throat, and neck if this works. Throw in knife fighting as well as some jiu-jitsu and you've got yourself one of the
The word mma means mixed martial arts it's a mixture of many traditional and sport martial arts it's not the style that makes a fighter good it's his willingness to keep learning and adapt to everything thrown at him take lyoto machida, chuck Liddell and GSp as example the all employed traditional martial arts or the basis of them
I agree with James77, it's funny to see how people talk so much bullshit behind a keyboard and try to label their martial art as the best but how many of these fools actually fight on a normal basis, not just screw around when they're feeling some testosterone kick in? To really be able to criticize a martial art you have to taste both paths not just one and then act like you can blast all the others to make your ego puff up...FAIL.
People who fight in these forums are retarded (if you get mad when you read that, then you're part of the group).
No martial art is complete. Any body that actually practiced martial arts would know that and wouldn't waste their time acting tough behind a keyboard.
Fighting in forums is just silly. Look it's really simple... If you put Bruce lee VS Bruce lee one of them would lose. If you put anderson silva vs anderson silva one of them would lose. No matter how you match people up someone will lose. And the guy that lost might win the next time. Put a TKD guy VS a San Soo guy and the TKD guy might win. It's human vs human. The art doesn't matter. A punch is in every style you can think of.
Very practical, meant to take someone out. Not to play around. Very good. Almost every move was meant to maim or kill, not to play or use in some stupid cage. This is meant for the street. Awsome stuff
you obviously don't know what you are talking about. san soo is the street fighters art. remember this is a demo not a fight. fast enough, but slow enough to see and shows the aggressiveness. i personally had to defend myself against three attackers and one held a gun to me. let's just say i won. we cannot MMA, we are trained to kill( tho we don't have too), after thousands of years of perfecting in china, with full contact fights to defend their property, san soo came about.
None of these LARPers look like "street fighters", and you don't sound like one either. Three guys attacked you and one had a gun and you won? Bull-fucking-shit. I'm calling you a liar. You're as much a fraud as these two phonies here.
Dumbass, they did not have "full-contact fights to protect their property". You made that up, just like you made up that crap about you and the gunman. You're a horrible liar. Grow fucking up, you loser.
@kommisar talkin out your cocksucker again. you are the dumbass here. the chinese who started san soo fought off invaders and their neighboring warlords for centuries. san soo has a long tried and proven perfected history. do some reading, before you open your mouth and the cum falls out again.
Asshole, you think this is how they fought off "invaders"? You're a gullible idiot. You're like the child who thinks a fairy took her tooth from under the pillow and replaced it with the quarter. This LARPing bullshit has never, ever been used in war. Grow the fuck up, dunce.
@kommisar come on backup your dribble. your obviously the dunce here dipshit. you should learn to read. so you can comment on history. instead of asking mommy to read these to you. oh mommy, the moving pictures have writing to, what does it say? looks like you need to grow up!
The only relevant history here is KF's shit record when it comes to documented fights we can witness. It is full of fraud and bullshido and has produced no notable fighters outside of sanshou. This demonstration here perfectly demonstrates just how far out of reality it is. Not one of these dorks would ever make it in an MMA fight. Neither would you. Go back to your stupid play acting, you jackass.
@kommisar you like to talk dribble. but you can't back it up! where's your facts. what do you study? take my offer! i dont think you train in anything more then runnin your mouth and beatin your tool.
Once again, you LARPing loser, you fail to prove any of this bullshit was used to win any war. You are a stupefied, credulous believer who has never been in a single fight in your entire life. Post one fight of you using this crap in a real fight. No doubt we will hear nothing but a bunch of excuses, cop-outs and fucktarded pleading.
@kommisar Hmm you seem to be a prime example of an internet tough guy and forum warrior. Please, do not take it from us, you can go and ask Five time world Kickboxing champion Kathy Long, who holds the rank of MASTER (way above just an instructor or "black belt") in Kung Fu San Soo, amongst other disciplines. Her channel in YOutube is KathyLongMMA.
Can we expect to see any of these fancy moves in her fights? If not, then you are wasting my time. Go practice imitating some stupid Jet Li movie, you tool.
@kommisar Stop talking as if somebody else is backing you up, there's no we man, its just you, you lead a lonely, pathetic existence which is why bitching around in youtube comments gives you any satisfaction. An hero, or get up from that chair and try some martial arts before opening your mouth again because, while you entertain me, I also feel pity for you. Go ahead, talk with someone with real fight experience, dont be scared, she's rather nice.
@Lestat220289 Dude, Kommisar does nothing but attack any martial art that is use the way its supposed to be, he is nothing but a troll. I have argued with him and a few others like him over and over again. Thy provide no evidence and yet they seem to know eveything just because they watch the UFC. They have no videos of their own to back themselves up..They are nonexistant, kinda like a internet bot. And since Youube is owned by google which is owned by the gov. I bet there agents lol :P
@KungFuKid1015 *sigh* I know... I just rage when I see comments like those and can't help myself XD but Kung Fu is also great for learning restraing and patience so I'll work on that heh. And I agree with what you say, Kung Fu was never meant as a safe sport with bulky gloves, it is a lethal martial art that UFC monkeys will never understand nor appreciate. Take care man!
Typical KF coward. You completely avoided answering my question. Furthermore, how telling that you would tell me to challenge a KICKBOXING CHAMPION. Why not just use your san shit to beat me if it's so good? Better yet, why can't Kathy simply use this nonsense to win a title? You're full of shit.
... she is in ther 40's now and is still kicking ass, what with her debuting in MMA and winning just last year, set to fight again in September. Its documented that she has knocked out heavier-than-her male attackers in the street, and even though she holds black belts in 3 disciplines and is well-versed in others, she herself will tell you what KF San Soo did for her, because she is nice enough to answer comments.
@kommisar Fuck YOU Kommy,,,,I dont want to hear you tell others that they don't provide any evidnce, since you NEVER DO! You worthless, peice of shit.
@kommisar Muther fuckr.....do some damn history...OK.....the various Chinese Martial arts known as Kung Fu, were used for Combat and warfare throughout time. And are practiced by soldiers today. Thats what martial arts means...the art of WAR! YOu uneducated fuckshit! What do you think our soldiers are learning when they train in hand-to-hand combat? Martial arts! Read some history man! You are such a damn loser. Why don't you back up your bullshit. Or shut the fuck up!
Wake the fuck up, simpleton, if you think any of the garbage you see practiced in KF mcdojos was used in "war", you're a credulous loser. Wars have always been won with weapons; hand-to-hand has played a very minor, negligible role.
Yes, shithead, KF is full of play acting. Your absurd animal LARP movements are nothing short of a joke. Grow some fucking balls, loser, you couldn't fight your way out of a wet paper bag.
You're 100% right! MMA has to be right because I see the shop selling MMA clothes in the mall! Why would they sell clothes in the mall if they weren't the best? Does KF have ring girls? I think not! Who said I like KF? Nothing can touch MMA. I saw a guy that knows MMA roll around on the ground with 10 KF guys and he beat them all....incredible!
Merchandise has nothing to do with this, you freak. This shit does not work. That is the bottom line. You are an idiot who cannot distinguish fantasy from reality, for believing otherwise. 95% of the moves used here are legal in MMA and yet if either of these two clowns were thrown in the ring they would get bitch slapped. So would you.
I agree with you 1000%! Poking in the eyes never works...especially if they don't have eyes! If I'm attacked by blind MMA people I'll be helpless, that's the fatal flaw of this system! I hate KF so bad I think that they should kick out of MMA all the people who know about it or practice it! I won't get bitch slapped because I wear MMA t-shirts so people fear me, can you say the same? You would be scared of my clothes if you saw me!
Absolutely! I don't even believe it exists! We know MMA exists though, I've seen the T_shirt and hat stand at the mall! No one can disprove that! Your opinions and fighting abilities are well known in the martial arts world kommisar, thanks for helping out!
@kommisar Play acting? Let me ask you something... If someone attacks me or my family and I defend myself and seriously hurt or even kill this person in doing so, is that play??? You make no sense in what you are saying Kommy, you need serious serious help.
Of course not, you clown. MMA is a type of combat competition, not an art. You're a loser; no wonder you enjoy san shit, which has never been used in any war either.
@kommisar Dumbass, they did not have "full-contact fights to protect their property". ???????? You are a fucking Joke!. What do you think they did back then to protect themselves huh? What the hell is wrong with you Kommy? Were you dropped on your head as a child? Were you given too much MSG and GMO foods>? Too much flouride in the water? Is anyone home upstairs Kommisar? Have you taken your prozac today>? Go support Obama, since you have the uneducated mind of a liberal puppet.
Asswipe, they had law enforcement officials or weapon duels. They did not have a hand-to-hand fight to the death. You have watched far too many KF movies. Most people -- sane adults with a grip on reality -- know these fights you're talking about are bullshit when they watch them in movies, but being the gullible simpleton fuck you are, believe this is fact. Your LARPing bullshit doesn't cut it in real fighting; stick to your rehearsed play acting, you mystified fool.
@kommisar Dude, before the invent of modern guns, I-pods, laptops and the joke that is the UFC. When people went to war they had weapons and hand-to-hand combat. These things weren't taught for fun, but for survival. Have you ever done any ANY research on the history of Kung Fu and the Chinese Martial arts let alone ANY art? Have you? I doubt it very much or else you would be able to provide me with some actual fact as to why I am wrong. But you are unable to do so.
Irrelevant, douchetard. Your silly san shit LARPing was NOT used in war. THAT is the point. Furthermore, if you lost your weapon in the middle of a battle you were as good as dead unless you could find another; hand-to-hand does shit against a sword or arrow, you fucking imbecile. Go back to your silly anime cartoons, jackass.
@kommisar You're a complete uneducated fucknut! You know nothing kommisar! You don't do any reading of history or try to understand anything, you are a troll, who's sole purpose is to start arguments. Why don't you get life? You don't contribute anything intelligant to any conversation that you take part in, No one agrees with you. None of your arguments make sense. Nothing you say holds any merrit. So you don't think that anyone back then knew how to defend against a sword? Prove it!
Just like a typical deluded KF believer to respond with a butt hurt rant. Why don't you stop crying like a little bitch and appealing to popularity and prove your arguments' merits, you pansy asshole? Pull the tampon out of your mangina and grow the fuck up, fucking loser.
@kommisar Prove my arguments, Dude I have done that over and over and over and over again with you on various topics. I read, I do research, I practice several martial arts, I provide videos on youtube, I work, I go to school, I raise a family, I have written and published a short story. I actually DO things with my life. What do you do. What is ur age Kommy? Are you even an adult?
You've done nothing, horse's ass, other than engage in fucktarded pleadings about your silly "art". This demonstration is bogus and shit soo has never, ever been used in "war". The fact that you think this silly play acting was used against someone carrying a weapon shows you are a deluded clown with no sense of reality.
Also, if you're a parent I feel sorry for your kids. Daddy is a tool who pretends he can fight. Like father, like son.
@kommisar San soo is relativly new, I am not talking about sansoo in particular. But martial arts across the board, you delapidated fucknugett. And forget the names of the styles...the techniques and principles are almost universal, Martial Arts is the art of War. Ok. And over time certain styles have become watered-down or practiced as forms. But there are also styles like San soo, and other forms of Kung Fu and other arts that have stuck to the self-defense aspects of fighting.
MA "across the board" are not the relevant topic here, you imbecile. San soo and san soo alone is what is being discussed. No, this crap was never used in war, and only some of the techniques here are universal (and they're not even pulled off correctly or realistically). Self-defense involves resisting opponents, not compliant play acting bullshit. A guy isn't going to freeze while you sit there throwing combos at him, nor is he going to telegraph his strikes like they do here.
I could read your gibberish; understanding it was an impossibility. Come back to the real world and speak proper, coherent English like the rest of the sane world, you clown. Engaging in fantasy and stupidity has rotted your already pea-sized brain to the point where you can't even speak comprehensibly. Get help, loser.
@kommisar And bringing up my family is foolish of you and immature. As I have said in the begining when we first exchanged comments a few months ago, it is clear that you are probably a skinny teenager who has no clue of anything at all. And so I ask again kommy, how old are you and what is it that you do with your life besides attacking others on youtube. Clearly you have a LONG history of it.
Excuse me, asswipe, it was YOU who brought up your family. If you don't want them involved in the discussion, don't mention them, idiot.
My age and weight is not relevant, you fucking clown. The ONLY thing relevant here is whether or not this shit works. It doesn't. Your silly platitudes/conjecture about "war" only indicate you are deluded and hell bent on engaging in fantasy.
@kommisar Ok then you show me the facts and the evidence that proves it doesn't work. I want you to show me what was used in warefare prior to the invent of the firearm. Show me your evidence that supports your statements. I am waiting.
Are you serious? What the fuck is wrong with you, freak? You have no sense of reality. Get your head out of your ass and into the real world, you jackass.
Your 100% right. MMA is better for beating up women. Tito Ortiz didn't use KF, he used MMA. If he used KF on beat up Jenna Jameson then she wouldn't have had a scratch on her! She used KF to protect herself from the MMA but she didn't have an MMA Tshirt on so it didn't work! People have full contact MMA fights in our hood to protect themselves fool.
More bullshido brought to us by the Oriental fraud arts (KF). So funny you credulous losers are talking about how "realistic" this is when it's nothing but a bunch of contrived play acting. Yes, I could definitely kick someone's ass in flashy fashion if they just stood there and let me do whatever I wanted to them, going along with every little push and hit of course. Let's see them try this in an MMA fight; there were only 2-3 moves in the entire video that weren't allowed. Pure bullshit.
@kommisar MMA fighting is different it is mutual , in a street fight ther is an element of suprise , and the guys reacting are simulating combat , if someone hauled off and kicked you in the balls yor gonna bend down and reach for em , if someone claws you in the face theres a really good chance your gonna reach up to protect your face , If you put a very skilled very confident san soo fighter in the octagon and he was allowed to fight with no rules I can almost garuantee that he would win.
And why do you say that, dumbass? Neither guy here is being "surprised" with a "street attack". Both these guys are following a rehearsed, orchestrated routine, like actors in a play. Nothing here is done out of spontaneity whatsoever.
On top of that, none of you LARPers even practice your "street" moves. Any MMA fighter is just as capable of "cheating" as you are with groin kicks and whatnot. Your pontifications hold no water, and you obviously have no goddamn clue how to fight.
@kommisar there is no such thing as cheating. you do what you have to, to win. under your theory, it's called mixed martial arts, says nothing about wrestling, and leverages. at 45, would like to show you san soo can fight. it would be just a hurtin, don't worry. afterward, we will get a beer or 2 and I will tell you where you can learn to fight. cool?
Asshole, I don't know why you're babbling about cheating. Does this kind of stupidity come naturally to you or do you have to work on it? I have no doubt whatsoever that you cannot fight at all, just like these frauds in the video with their play acting bullshit. How telling we can't see a san soo fight. Even more telling is fags like you don't kill despite bragging be able to do so. Like I said, just more Oriental fraud. Go fuck yourself, you credulous douche.
@kommisar goes to show you who the real liar and bullshitter is. you can't even carry on a conversation without insult. you are the douche bag, who knows nothing about what he dribbles out of his cocksuckin mouth. i laid out an offer, take me up. i'll will even pay your medical bills when i am done. i will bring a waiver for instruction, you will sign and i will beat your ass till you need to go to the hospital. no more talk here, take me up. wait hows this, i will set up a ring fight, win 1k!
One question though. Why is the attacker always stepping forward with his live side? I boxed for 3 1/2 years, learned self-defense from my dad(former C.S.A.R. combat search and rescue) and just started in an mma judo club last february. I would never step forward with my live side unless I was a switch fighter. Or maybe too mad to think. This is just a demo so it probably looks a bit different in free sparring. Would love to see full contact practice. Respect.
@jonspec62 Kung Fu San Soo isn't an art that dances around and competes. They are throwing a killing blow at each other, which is why they look so committed when they do punch. Think about each guy wanting to knock the other out. You're completely right, they are throwing their live side, because they are committing to the punch.
@mafernan16 I understand that in self-defense and combat there isn't any time to feel out your opponent. I just don't think anyone should use such an obvious motion in a fight. In any kind of fight whether competition or for real you are more likely to miss more punches than you will land because they are expected and easy to see coming. Angles and range are important to take into consideration when using any strike. Does that make any sense?
@jonspec62 There is no full contact practice with San Soo. This is not a sport, it has to be simulated. It wouldnt be fair to rip your balls off, bite your face, gouge your eyes out and elbow your throat. As far as the same foot same side punch this is for a twisting action, the body is like a spring, if you wind one way, then you wind back the other way and so forth so that you are continually blocking and attacking. Thats SanSoo.
@craw405 If you don't practice unsimulated, then you aren't learning how to fight. Full body protection can be bought so guys can fight unrehearsed, dirty, and at full force.I understand very clearly the differences between self-defense and sport which is exactly why you have to practice unrehearsed. I like the mindset of SanSoo, its just the training method that seems strange. I'm not passing judgment on the art, perhaps I haven't been exposed to it enough.
I like how they're not wasting time moving around and feeling each other out. There is a lot of dirty stuff too, thus the application to self-defense. If you look at streetfight videos here on youtube you'll see that as long as these guys can keep a cool head they'd probably win against the average bonehead that thinks he's tough. From what I've heard, the SCARS system that Navy SEALs used to use is a modified version of san soo.
Actually, the two are related. This is one of the few Shaolin styles that has retained its fighting ability. Most other Shaolin styles only pay attention to the beauty of their forms. San Soo and Sanshou are the no nonsense fighting skills of all Kung Fu styles. I hope this style spreads far and wide. I'm a practitioner of Sanshou myself(The self-defense, not the sport), and I found San Soo amazing. So to answer your question, the relation is just that; the same art form.
Don't judge San Soo by this video alone. It is a dynamic and entertaining video. The techniques of San Soo are awesome and if taught correctly are very dangerous and in my opinion more straight forward and efficient than what I've see of Krav Maga. I do agree that Krav Maga's learning curve is probably shorter and they do explore more scenarios that are more relevant to modern times.
@splintermind- San Soo does not need to evolve over time. It is best the way Jimmy taught it. Anyone who changes or evolves San Soo is just destorying it and making it worse. San Soo was developed over thousands of years. Nobody in modern times is going to be able to "make it better"
Their technique looks good but who taught them to yell like idiots when they're attacking? That is definitely NOT the way Jimmy taught San Soo. The only sound they should be making is breathing.
Actually San Soo is for street fighting and survival. It is not a style featured in tournaments and students are taught to end a fight in 2-3 seconds and get away alive, hopefully. The same with krav maga. San Soo demos are just that, but in real street conditions with the right training, it can be deadly. I know because I have seen it applied in street fights. But as in learning any new skill, it takes time and hard work to master and become good enough to be a fine street fighter.
I don t know about San Soo but this video is more Nurture than Nature. They re not based on human responses but on moves that is you need to learn and remember to execute them.
i took san soo for the better part of year under eric hermanson and it looked nothing like this at all. this however looks almost exactly like what i learnd in american kempo acadamy
Yeah I was about to say this looks more like a Karate demonstration. Closer to say Kenpo or Shotokan. Definitely not Kung Fu San Soo. Not doubting its effectiveness at all.... Just the look of the technique.
Yeah I've never seen a Kung Fu style like that. Like I said, not questioning the effectiveness of this style. Just saying it shouldn't be named Kung Fu. It should be called Karate San Soo or something. The approach to movements are way too direct and more for attacking. Usually Kung Fu stems from defense and countering. That's just my take on it though. Btw, good luck on your training! I'm learning Northern Shaolin Long fist right now actually.
@musicispower84 It originated in China is why it's called Kung Fu. San Soo is about fighting aggressively, not defensively. Cripple the guy(s) and get the hell out. There is no direct beauty in the techniques. I don't feel this is a good representation of it.
@sarkoff You're probably right. Yes it did originate by a Chinese man, but still I think it shouldn't be called Kung Fu despite. That's just my personal opinion though. This is a very aggressive and openly offensive (Meaning it's more on offense) type of style. BUT, I'm sure like any style, it can be defended against or even countered by a very cunning fighter if used against one. I like it. Just the name that bothers me.
@musicispower84 I studied San Soo for a little less than a year, and yes any martial art can be countered, but I hate saying that simply because saying that puts one style vs another. I'm sure you'll agree that the fighter is also important, though someone using straight TKD would have a problem against someone doing straight BJJ. San Soo is about no rules fighting. Our instructor told us as soon as you know a confrontation is inevitable you hit first in a vital spot and try and get away ASAP.
@SSfighter909 I said the name bothers me cuz I don't think of this type of style when I hear Kung fu. Did i say I was crying about it tho? If how I feel about it bother you then that's your problem. I wasn't even dissing the art of it.
Nice video! I see some concepts that look familiar with jiu jitsu but this is more fierce and explosive. i like it. good job guys!

Eliminate the aerial and falling part then I'll like it. San soo is a good style but tends to be too showy in some schools.

Sheadrummer42 1 year ago
@Sheadrummer42 Just like they can't compete to show how badass they are. RIGHT. Remember Larry Wikel and his "deadly" fighters that got their asses handed to them in 1975? The only way any of this chaining crap would work is if every person in the world reacted to getting hit the exact same way. Not gonna happen. You would think they would be more than willing to show how "brutal" their shit art is at least just once to make people like myself shut the hell up.
ZachMac209 1 year ago
@ZachMac209
Answer... you can't.
Instead of running people down, dedicate yourself to being the best you can be, in yours.
bstortford196622 1 year ago
@bstortford196622 What if they miss the first strike? Then the script goes out the window?
ZachMac209 1 year ago
@ZachMac209

Its how we train
shonuff6699 1 year ago
@ss5dojo no not at all. you see the exaggeration of the punches, the strikes aren't deep, the throws are not full commit. you don't see the attacker showing intent to hit. these moves ARE VERY effective especially when done at full speed. the unfortunate thing about this art (if there is such a thing) is that training full speed all the time you or your partner will be broken and you can't continue to train. you need to know what it's like to get hit so you must train close to the edge.
shonuff6699 1 year ago
@ss5dojo I totally agree with you about the quality of vids on youtube. I was recently with a huge number of students from around the country. During some of our conversations I asked some of them how long they have been practicing San Soo; most said 2-3 years and they had their black belts. It will take you minimum of six years to get your black belt through my school and even then the test ranges from 8-12 hours and it is literally full speed, full contact fighting.
shonuff6699 1 year ago
@shonuff6699 i dont go by belts i go by experience. but if i did have a belt it would probably be yellow. and iv been training since i was 4 (im 18 now). these american style kung fu teaches how easy it is to get belts. 6 years to make a black belt is a disgrace to those who actually earned it. try 40 years of intense training. then will anyone be worthy of a true Kung Fu black belt.

@marineboy090 @marineboy090 really?? you do realize that San Soo is a Chinese combat fighting style, right?? You do realize that the only reason San Soo has a belt ranking system is because Lo Sifu Jimmy H. Woo felt the need to do so in order get students in the door (people knew about Karate back then, not Kung Fu). I could care less what belt I have because the only thing that matters is that I can take care of myself in the streets which is what San Soo is all about.
shonuff6699 1 year ago
@shonuff6699 yes im not stupid. im 3rd gen of Chin Siu Dek. really there are no belts in kung fu but like you said, people knew american karate so they were comfortable with the belts. im just commenting kuz you said people got thier belts withing 2 years. and i didnt know that.. and it shocked me.
marineboy090 1 year ago
@marineboy090 i never said you were stupid. you remarked about the "American Kung Fu" so that's why i responded the way i did. i agree completely with the shock of seeing some of these "black belts". some of them are very legit and some of them not so much. i don't want a black belt unless i've truly earned it. there are too many schools that give move you through the ranks because you went to a certain number of classes and paid a certain amount of money.
shonuff6699 1 year ago
@marineboy090 In the Kung Fu San Soo I learn belts take years to gain. You can try for your first belt after about a year and half. You have to know like three hand forms and two weapons forms. Also you have to be able to do a certain ammount of techniques and combinations of techniques. We are less formal however, we do not wear a gi because in a real life situation your opponent will not be wearing one.
lordalleroc 1 year ago

Your LARPing bullshit doesn't cut it in real fighting; stick to your rehearsed play acting, you mystified fool.
kommisar 1 year ago
@kommisar Dude, before the invent of modern guns, I-pods, laptops and the joke that is the UFC. When people went to war they had weapons and hand-to-hand combat. These things weren't taught for fun, but for survival. Have you ever done any ANY research on the history of Kung Fu and the Chinese Martial arts let alone ANY art? Have you? I doubt it very much or else you would be able to provide me with some actual fact as to why I am wrong. But you are unable to do so.
KungFuKid1015 1 year ago
Irrelevant, douchetard. Your silly san shit LARPing was NOT used in war. THAT is the point. Furthermore, if you lost your weapon in the middle of a battle you were as good as dead unless you could find another; hand-to-hand does shit against a sword or arrow, you fucking imbecile. Go back to your silly anime cartoons, jackass.
kommisar 1 year ago
@kommisar You're a complete uneducated fucknut! You know nothing kommisar! You don't do any reading of history or try to understand anything, you are a troll, who's sole purpose is to start arguments. Why don't you get life? You don't contribute anything intelligant to any conversation that you take part in, No one agrees with you. None of your arguments make sense. Nothing you say holds any merrit. So you don't think that anyone back then knew how to defend against a sword? Prove it!
KungFuKid1015 1 year ago
Just like a typical deluded KF believer to respond with a butt hurt rant. Why don't you stop crying like a little bitch and appealing to popularity and prove your arguments' merits, you pansy asshole? Pull the tampon out of your mangina and grow the fuck up, fucking loser.
kommisar 1 year ago
@kommisar Prove my arguments, Dude I have done that over and over and over and over again with you on various topics. I read, I do research, I practice several martial arts, I provide videos on youtube, I work, I go to school, I raise a family, I have written and published a short story. I actually DO things with my life. What do you do. What is ur age Kommy? Are you even an adult?
KungFuKid1015 1 year ago
You've done nothing, horse's ass, other than engage in fucktarded pleadings about your silly "art". This demonstration is bogus and shit soo has never, ever been used in "war". The fact that you think this silly play acting was used against someone carrying a weapon shows you are a deluded clown with no sense of reality.
Also, if you're a parent I feel sorry for your kids. Daddy is a tool who pretends he can fight. Like father, like son.
kommisar 1 year ago
@kommisar San soo is relativly new, I am not talking about sansoo in particular. But martial arts across the board, you delapidated fucknugett. And forget the names of the styles...the techniques and principles are almost universal, Martial Arts is the art of War. Ok. And over time certain styles have become watered-down or practiced as forms. But there are also styles like San soo, and other forms of Kung Fu and other arts that have stuck to the self-defense aspects of fighting.
KungFuKid1015 1 year ago

KungFuKid1015 1 year ago
Excuse me, asswipe, it was YOU who brought up your family. If you don't want them involved in the discussion, don't mention them, idiot.
My age and weight is not relevant, you fucking clown. The ONLY thing relevant here is whether or not this shit works. It doesn't. Your silly platitudes/conjecture about "war" only indicate you are deluded and hell bent on engaging in fantasy.
kommisar 1 year ago
@kommisar Ok then you show me the facts and the evidence that proves it doesn't work. I want you to show me what was used in warefare prior to the invent of the firearm. Show me your evidence that supports your statements. I am waiting.

Shriner66 1 year ago
Your 100% right. MMA is better for beating up women. Tito Ortiz didn't use KF, he used MMA. If he used KF on beat up Jenna Jameson then she wouldn't have had a scratch on her! She used KF to protect herself from the MMA but she didn't have an MMA Tshirt on so it didn't work! People have full contact MMA fights in our hood to protect themselves fool.
Shriner66 1 year ago
More bullshido brought to us by the Oriental fraud arts (KF). So funny you credulous losers are talking about how "realistic" this is when it's nothing but a bunch of contrived play acting. Yes, I could definitely kick someone's ass in flashy fashion if they just stood there and let me do whatever I wanted to them, going along with every little push and hit of course. Let's see them try this in an MMA fight; there were only 2-3 moves in the entire video that weren't allowed. Pure bullshit.
kommisar 1 year ago
@kommisar whats wrong, cant see fast enough?
kapoof2 1 year ago
@kommisar MMA fighting is different it is mutual , in a street fight ther is an element of suprise , and the guys reacting are simulating combat , if someone hauled off and kicked you in the balls yor gonna bend down and reach for em , if someone claws you in the face theres a really good chance your gonna reach up to protect your face , If you put a very skilled very confident san soo fighter in the octagon and he was allowed to fight with no rules I can almost garuantee that he would win.
SSfighter909 1 year ago
And why do you say that, dumbass? Neither guy here is being "surprised" with a "street attack". Both these guys are following a rehearsed, orchestrated routine, like actors in a play. Nothing here is done out of spontaneity whatsoever.
On top of that, none of you LARPers even practice your "street" moves. Any MMA fighter is just as capable of "cheating" as you are with groin kicks and whatnot. Your pontifications hold no water, and you obviously have no goddamn clue how to fight.
kommisar 1 year ago
@kommisar there is no such thing as cheating. you do what you have to, to win. under your theory, it's called mixed martial arts, says nothing about wrestling, and leverages. at 45, would like to show you san soo can fight. it would be just a hurtin, don't worry. afterward, we will get a beer or 2 and I will tell you where you can learn to fight. cool?
chdyquem 1 year ago
Asshole, I don't know why you're babbling about cheating. Does this kind of stupidity come naturally to you or do you have to work on it? I have no doubt whatsoever that you cannot fight at all, just like these frauds in the video with their play acting bullshit. How telling we can't see a san soo fight. Even more telling is fags like you don't kill despite bragging be able to do so. Like I said, just more Oriental fraud. Go fuck yourself, you credulous douche.
kommisar 1 year ago
@kommisar goes to show you who the real liar and bullshitter is. you can't even carry on a conversation without insult. you are the douche bag, who knows nothing about what he dribbles out of his cocksuckin mouth. i laid out an offer, take me up. i'll will even pay your medical bills when i am done. i will bring a waiver for instruction, you will sign and i will beat your ass till you need to go to the hospital. no more talk here, take me up. wait hows this, i will set up a ring fight, win 1k!
chdyquem 1 year ago
Hmmm....So in other words, more bullshit made up in the mind of a crafty oriental to scam money from idiot round eyes.
Blndrfist 1 year ago
One question though. Why is the attacker always stepping forward with his live side? I boxed for 3 1/2 years, learned self-defense from my dad(former C.S.A.R. combat search and rescue) and just started in an mma judo club last february. I would never step forward with my live side unless I was a switch fighter. Or maybe too mad to think. This is just a demo so it probably looks a bit different in free sparring. Would love to see full contact practice. Respect.
jonspec62 1 year ago
@jonspec62 Kung Fu San Soo isn't an art that dances around and competes. They are throwing a killing blow at each other, which is why they look so committed when they do punch. Think about each guy wanting to knock the other out. You're completely right, they are throwing their live side, because they are committing to the punch.
mafernan16 1 year ago
@mafernan16 I understand that in self-defense and combat there isn't any time to feel out your opponent. I just don't think anyone should use such an obvious motion in a fight. In any kind of fight whether competition or for real you are more likely to miss more punches than you will land because they are expected and easy to see coming. Angles and range are important to take into consideration when using any strike. Does that make any sense?
jonspec62 1 year ago
@jonspec62 its to train for speed, basically, the idea goes, "if u can counter a jab, you can counter a cross" since jabs happen quite a bit faster.
kapoof2 1 year ago
@jonspec62 There is no full contact practice with San Soo. This is not a sport, it has to be simulated. It wouldnt be fair to rip your balls off, bite your face, gouge your eyes out and elbow your throat. As far as the same foot same side punch this is for a twisting action, the body is like a spring, if you wind one way, then you wind back the other way and so forth so that you are continually blocking and attacking. Thats SanSoo.
craw405 1 year ago
@craw405 If you don't practice unsimulated, then you aren't learning how to fight. Full body protection can be bought so guys can fight unrehearsed, dirty, and at full force.I understand very clearly the differences between self-defense and sport which is exactly why you have to practice unrehearsed. I like the mindset of SanSoo, its just the training method that seems strange. I'm not passing judgment on the art, perhaps I haven't been exposed to it enough.
jonspec62 1 year ago
I like how they're not wasting time moving around and feeling each other out. There is a lot of dirty stuff too, thus the application to self-defense. If you look at streetfight videos here on youtube you'll see that as long as these guys can keep a cool head they'd probably win against the average bonehead that thinks he's tough. From what I've heard, the SCARS system that Navy SEALs used to use is a modified version of san soo.
jonspec62 1 year ago
In a real fight, you would need defense too. These guys have no guard so they are vulnerable.

reminds me of military sanda this art even has a similar name, Sanshou-San soo I wonder whats the relation.
SunWukong4 2 years ago
Actually, the two are related. This is one of the few Shaolin styles that has retained its fighting ability. Most other Shaolin styles only pay attention to the beauty of their forms. San Soo and Sanshou are the no nonsense fighting skills of all Kung Fu styles. I hope this style spreads far and wide. I'm a practitioner of Sanshou myself(The self-defense, not the sport), and I found San Soo amazing. So to answer your question, the relation is just that; the same art form.
Maxi358 2 years ago
Don't judge San Soo by this video alone. It is a dynamic and entertaining video. The techniques of San Soo are awesome and if taught correctly are very dangerous and in my opinion more straight forward and efficient than what I've see of Krav Maga. I do agree that Krav Maga's learning curve is probably shorter and they do explore more scenarios that are more relevant to modern times.
leicamaster 2 years ago
@splintermind- San Soo does not need to evolve over time. It is best the way Jimmy taught it. Anyone who changes or evolves San Soo is just destorying it and making it worse. San Soo was developed over thousands of years. Nobody in modern times is going to be able to "make it better"
kwkfss 2 years ago
so what u just said... "it was developed over thousands of years", you state that so why is it not okay to keep developing?
kapoof2 2 years ago
Their technique looks good but who taught them to yell like idiots when they're attacking? That is definitely NOT the way Jimmy taught San Soo. The only sound they should be making is breathing.
kwkfss 2 years ago
Actually San Soo is for street fighting and survival. It is not a style featured in tournaments and students are taught to end a fight in 2-3 seconds and get away alive, hopefully. The same with krav maga. San Soo demos are just that, but in real street conditions with the right training, it can be deadly. I know because I have seen it applied in street fights. But as in learning any new skill, it takes time and hard work to master and become good enough to be a fine street fighter.
nitekatt2007 2 years ago
I don t know about San Soo but this video is more Nurture than Nature. They re not based on human responses but on moves that is you need to learn and remember to execute them.
dreamers24 2 years ago
i took san soo for the better part of year under eric hermanson and it looked nothing like this at all. this however looks almost exactly like what i learnd in american kempo acadamy
bluemoonminis 2 years ago
Yeah I was about to say this looks more like a Karate demonstration. Closer to say Kenpo or Shotokan. Definitely not Kung Fu San Soo. Not doubting its effectiveness at all.... Just the look of the technique.
musicispower84 2 years ago
agreeed. I am learning san soo right now, and our teacher makes it clear to not get on the ground with your opponent, in case of multiple attackers
ZRogg0417 1 year ago
Yeah I've never seen a Kung Fu style like that. Like I said, not questioning the effectiveness of this style. Just saying it shouldn't be named Kung Fu. It should be called Karate San Soo or something. The approach to movements are way too direct and more for attacking. Usually Kung Fu stems from defense and countering. That's just my take on it though. Btw, good luck on your training! I'm learning Northern Shaolin Long fist right now actually.
musicispower84 1 year ago
@musicispower84 It originated in China is why it's called Kung Fu. San Soo is about fighting aggressively, not defensively. Cripple the guy(s) and get the hell out. There is no direct beauty in the techniques. I don't feel this is a good representation of it.
sarkoff 1 year ago
@sarkoff You're probably right. Yes it did originate by a Chinese man, but still I think it shouldn't be called Kung Fu despite. That's just my personal opinion though. This is a very aggressive and openly offensive (Meaning it's more on offense) type of style. BUT, I'm sure like any style, it can be defended against or even countered by a very cunning fighter if used against one. I like it. Just the name that bothers me.
musicispower84 1 year ago
@musicispower84 I studied San Soo for a little less than a year, and yes any martial art can be countered, but I hate saying that simply because saying that puts one style vs another. I'm sure you'll agree that the fighter is also important, though someone using straight TKD would have a problem against someone doing straight BJJ. San Soo is about no rules fighting. Our instructor told us as soon as you know a confrontation is inevitable you hit first in a vital spot and try and get away ASAP.
sarkoff 1 year ago
@musicispower84 Kung Fu translates to work and accomplish it doesnt even mean "martial arts" the term wushu means chinese martial art , So chill back
SSfighter909 1 year ago
@SSfighter909 I said the name bothers me cuz I don't think of this type of style when I hear Kung fu. Did i say I was crying about it tho? If how I feel about it bother you then that's your problem. I wasn't even dissing the art of it.
