  • he was supp^sed to be in Montreal july 1979...and they cancelled the concert,,,never knew why

  • Steve uses an E-bow for sustaining notes here; watch his right hand @3.44-3.50...

  • Great song and the vocal IS very good. Pretty close to Steve Walsh's, but for me, Steve's rendition is best. Ever heard the version with John Perry on vocals? Also pretty good. There are actually 2 versions with the Steve Walsh vocal. Nothing different, vocally. It's an extended version.

  • great singer.

  • Loved this song for many years! LOVE steve Hackett! Always been a huge Genesis fan but he shines for me.....

  • steve has a christmas no one with this ? yes

  • Long live Steve H an inspiration to many

  • Elton John specs though. :)

  • STEVE IS THE BETTER SINGER

  • Steve is wearing the exact same set of clothing and riding boots he wore onstage with Genesis. Did he only have one change of stage clothes?

  • magic !

  • Outstanding! I thought that was Walsh for a minute- great range!

  • Lovely clean tone from Steve. Can't believe he was frozen out of Genesis. His material is magical.

  • @maximumsatann I don't know that he was exactly frozen out of Genesis. They were all such strong writers it must have been difficult to get all of their own bits in that they wanted. Genesis did rehearse Please Don't Touch with Steve Hackett. Can you imagine how great that would have sounded?

  • Brill, brill, brill. Ta so much xxxx

  • I read somewhere that the singer tried to pick up a chaps girlfriend at the gig?

  • As far as the guitar effects go, the defining piece here is the EMS Synthi Hi-Fli which was a multi-effects unit for instruments and sat up on a stand for the players convenience. I think it is visible here a little off at side stage, Hackett also put the old Taurus (Moog) pedals up on a stand for a switch. He showed me what a hammer-on was!!

  • Bloody great. Thanx for postin' it. CHEERS !!

  • lol at the cheeky thumbs up at the start

  • Pete Hicks looks like a sociology teacher from the late 70's

  • @GabrielsNob Not far off.. apparently he is an English teacher these days.

  • wonderful

  • Ok! Gracias por el dato jeff99az

  • Is Steve using an ebow on the slide parts?!? I'm gonna try that as soon as no one will complain about waking them up.

  • Steve is a God in this video. Those trousers and the hair. Perfect. Adore Steve and his music. He gave me that smile at the Brixton Academy. I fell in LoveXXXX

  • How do you get that guitar sound?

  • @Schraegparker Delay echo & maybe a flanger?

  • @AnchovyRun

    I'll try, thanks!

  • @Schraegparker Like I said I'm not entirely sure but I can get a sound very similar with those effects. I'll try it out later and if its not close I'll post my new findings. Your welcome by the way.

  • "There, troubled with snow covered peaks 'til the end of time........oo,oo We know you're a daughter of Eve and a friend of mine."

    Classic Steve Hackett!!

  • Kerry Livgren almost never sings on any album. He doesn't consider himself a vocalist.

  • This man was the singer of "Kansas"?

  • @mariosilveyra --- the singer in the video is not Steve Walsh (the singer from Kansas who sung on the studio version of this song).

  • One Great album,,,

  • yes, great vocal but,... can never compare to Steve Walsh

  • I thought that the singer was Marco Zorro

  • On the album, it's Steve Walsh of Kansas singing

  • When I first heard this song, I thought it was Kerry Livegren on vocals.

  • Singing is actually great on this but the mix is very unflattering

  • They should have used the original studio version for the movie! People would have found out how great an artist SH is and it would have reaped him some great financial rewards too I bet!

  • one of the song I prefer of the master...

  • An altogether very difficult song to do live by anyones standards but they still manage it.

  • he can sing a LOT better than me but I never really cared for his voice

  • Pete Hicks on vocals.

  • there's Waldo!!

  • Wait, I truly and empaphatically adore the Steve Walsh version to no doubt. But Pete Hicks does a great job!

  • Great song and yes it pales a just a bit because Steve Walsh (Kansas) was outstanding on the studio version.

  • That singer nailed this vocal. Not easy to copy Steve Walsh.

  • great version. love this track! ...

  • steve walsh of the band kansas sang the studio version and did a far better job than mr. hicks.

  • LOUD!!

    But awesome 8)

  • For anyone who cares (and I don't mean to name-drop), I was fortunate to meet & chat with Steve once in 1986. I asked him what kind of acoustic guitar he used for that warm, beautiful intro on the studio version (he plays it on electric here). He said it was a Yamaha 12-string accompanied by some "subliminal flute" (presumably very low in the mix).

I agree about the vocals here, but how do you follow Steve Walsh in his prime? That's like trying to follow God's vocals. *laugh*

  • c'mon Waldo does a pretty good job!

  • It's Pete Hicks on vocals

  • credits say pete hicks was singing?

  • Yes Mike, I believe this is Trevor Horn, now that you pointed it out. A good version of a great tune, but I still like Steve Walsh on it, better.

  • The singer looks alot like Trevor Horn? This is a great version.

  • Steve Hackett is sooooo gorgeous and talented beyond belief. My kind of guy.

  • oops I knew that but I meant to write that Spectral is one of my favourite albums of all and this tune is also one of my favourite songs of all hence 2 favourites in the all time category lol but I flubbed grammatically on my wording

  • For the record, this tune was on "Please Don't Touch", not "Spectral Mornings", but it's an awesome album, as well.

  • This is my favorite Hackett tune, and one of my favorite songs, period. But, I agree, it was great, but would've been much better with Steve Walsh on vocals. This wasn't bad, just that Walsh was so good for this song.

  • this is one of my favourite songs of all. I love the Walsh vocals they're so much better . These sound a bit thin but I don't care, the melodic, beautiful folkiness of most of this song seems so British to me esp where the rock tempo hits that lovely melodic part again in the bridge. Lovely crystaline sound on the guitar -. Hackett is such an understated great player & Spectral Mornings is a wondeful album. aww I miss real rock, sorry I say this over & over but I just do do.

  • Steve walsh of kansas sings this on the original record and is frankly much better than this guy.

  • miticooooooooooooooo steveeeeeeeeee ce GARBI NA CIFRAAAAAAAAAA

  • This is my favourite song, Hackett is definitely one of the best.

  • Not as far as I know but he did try to pick up my girlfriend after a Steve Hackett concert at Middlesbrough town hall in 1979 - Barking up the wrong tree there !!!!!

  • Didn't the lead singer also sing for YES at one time?

  • The only yes singers other than Anderson i can think of are Trevor Horn and Benoit David. But maybe Pete Hicks sang with them a time i don't know about

  • @playguitarbill its not trevor horn if thats what you mean!
