  • I use vanilla stevia to sweeten my chia fresca. If you use too much you'll get a bitter after-taste. I put 4 heaping tbs. into a large Blendtec blender carafe. I then add 4 cups of filtered water. 10 drops of liquid vanilla stevia, a few sprigs of fresh mint leaves, 1 peeled and seeded organic lemon. I then low speed blend the mixture for a couple of minutes and let it sit for 15 minutes or longer for the chia to turn into a gel. I then high speed blend until smooth. Tastes great

  • Hola Yardsnaker,

    Gr8 vid! I'll try your recipe tomorrow; however, it wouldn't be the same with out the tunes! What is the artist/track name of your blending tune? The chia + the tunes would definately jump start my morning!

    Pax Out!

    PD

  • I don't know id Agave is good for you or not it seems like a waste to use it as a sweetener, when its true purpose in life is to become alcohol. Besides honey is cheaper and better for the Earth. Why put all that carbon into the air shipping it up to me when I can walk down to my friends farm and get organic honey from him.

  • @nukeguy04 word! It can be controversial can't it! Seems to be a lot of agave controversy going around. Feel free to use whatever sweetener you like!

  • @nukeguy04 Because honey is BEE BARF and it is not natural for humans to eat it, nor is it environmentally friendly. Bees ingest and regurgitate nectar many times until it is partially digested to create "honey". Humans steal it and keep them enslaved in unnatural settings (those big white boxes) to produce more. Extremely disruptive to their natural lives and quite a negative impact on nature.

  • @mountainmay honey is boiled to kill all the germs so it doesn't really matter and the honey combs are almost identical to the natural bee made ones.

  • @mountainmay

    your a dumbass good sir!

  • @TheMrJPgo I speak the truth. What do YOU think honey is??

  • Agave is not raw (it's cooked) and it's indistinguishable from high-fructose corn syrup from a nutritional perspective (basically a starch feedstock treated with enzymes and/or heat to yield fructose and glucose). I really wish raw foodists would understand chemistry a little more instead of glorifying this garbage substance.

  • You can get truly raw agave. The sugar molecule is different from hybridized corn and it is lower glycemic. Can you give a source for your information please?

  • The sugar molecules are the *same*: fructose (55-90% in agave, 55% in HFCS) and glucose (the rest). Hybridization has absolutely no effect on the composition of the sugars. NONE. Fructose results in lower GI but a host of other health problems attributed to HFCS. It's worse in agave because the fructose level is higher.

    (I can't seem to post a link here - they think I am spamming them. Just Google around; there is plenty of info)

  • google "is agave nectar healthy" and read the first few articles.

  • great comments oaklandj, I think it is important to educate oneself about the realities of foods that can get over hyped too. I was under the impression that it can raise blood sugar levels, when before they were saying it couldn't. Thanks again.

    I have had really truly raw agave, clear, and it's amazing. Kind of has a bite to it. Take care! Sam

  • Well, truly unprocessed agave nectar should be:

    * cloudy/milky

    * barely sweet

    * thin & watery

    If not, it's been processed with enzymes and/or heat.

    Unprocessed agave will also be rich in inulin, which is a soluble fiber, good for you but will give you lots and lots of gas!

  • i know somwhere we could get this perfect food at $7 per 112 grams, is it worth the price?

  • absolute brilliance.

  • Thanks for your comment winxniw, if you check out regular chia fresca, it's made with water, sweetener and whole seeds with lemon, then whisked. The water forms a gel. The water activates the gelatinous properties of the seed which is what you want to digest anyway.

  • bioavailability :)

  • why not just throw the seeds into the blender?

  • thanks rushedartist, good question, mainly because it would get too thick, like oatmeal. This way it just thickens the liquid a little and it is easier to drink!

  • your music is just as horrid as the blender sound...

  • I wish my blender sounded like that..

  • rofl!

  • This looks great! I just got chia seeds and have not done anything with them, I might do something along these lines :)

  • good job keeping up on your comments o, and btw, sweet vid!!:-D

  • THANKS! 8D

  • no,no,no thank you!! :-)

  • Mmmmm, I so want some of this Sam.

  • :0) Sure!

  • Great video! I just received an email today about the benefits of chia seeds. This recipes looks yummy. Did you buy the chia from your local health food store or online?

  • THANKS bmagill952001! I bought them from a local place here in Seattle, WA, USA. Great deals online though!

  • Niiice! Thats probly one energizing smoothie!

    I'll have to give it a shot, chia tasted funky to me the first couple of times I tried it but, that looks yummy!Do you reblend after its been chilled?

  • xmantidx, it's actually an elixir. ;) I didn't re-blend, you could but it would make the drink too much like gray jello in taste and texture imo! :D

  • Chia is not suposed to have taste or sent. you might have had some bad seeds.

  • Thanks tankyanker77, I know what you mean. I'm just really sensitive and can smell like a airport security dog. The seeds were fantastic! No joke! Woof!

  • Fun! The music totally went with the video. The Chia Fresco 2.0 looks good - will have to try it!

  • I gonna get some mangos!!

  • It loosk yummy. Thanks for posting. A small suggestion, consider using plastic utensils with metal bowls or vice versa because metal scraping on metal may cause some concerns. I'm not sure what it is, but something like microscopic particles of metal getting in food, perhaps? I may be paranoid.

  • THANKS thrivesurvive! I use stainless steel because I feel it is safer than plastic anything, and my body likes chromium. I also preferred cooking on cast iron when I was SAD because it was better for me as well. However, I think I should look into some bamboo utensils, those seem to be pretty darn good. Thanks again!

  • That's a good idea. I think it's just something about the metal scraping together. Bamboo is a great idea.

  • Oh la la!!! Yummy! Great video, love the music!

  • Rawesomelife, thanks so much!
