  • When was the last time this piece was presented like this? A tour de force. Maestro Rieu has done it again. BRAVO!!!!

  • I want this video on my J300 unit.

  • Bravo Maestro Rieu !

  • Sorry to say this but, I like the Mormon Tabernacle choir version better. They sound like they were forcing their voices:

  • Sopranos Go Up To A6 ( Natural ) 2nd Letter Above Treble Clef.

  • nice arrangement.

  • Altos are missing! Sounds incomplete :(

  • Andre Rieu brings classical music to the populace in a beautiful and exciting way. Why should it be only for snobs? He is giving the music a wide and appreciative audience. What could be wrong with that? And the singers are superb. Go suck eggs.

  • The message of Handel delivered to perfection

  • This video went viral on Sucre

  • it's fast!

  • Hermoso!!!

  • Is there any such thing as a soprano who's not supremely sexy?

  • @stuqua No

Prachtige uitvoering ! Thanx André !

  • Beautiful, but I still feel like it's a race to the end.

  • don't the people in the crowd know they are supposed to stand up during the whole performance?

  • @mluvbmw Actually they aren't... George the First had arthritis and stood during it, so everyone stood because the king stood, because that's tradition.

  • @rosscalverley Actually they are, at least if they are sensitive to cultural tradition. The tradition was started by King George, but it wasn't because of arthritis and it wasn't George I, who was long dead when this piece was composed. It was George II and he rose in tribute to the music. This began the tradition. Unfortunately, more and more people today are culturally illiterate.

  • I love classical music, but I think this nearer parody of that. No kidding, Rieu´s style is to perform classic pieces in "light versions" under the premise to get more close, easy to understand to the massive public , than the originals which of course are more complex, longer and therefore hard to assimilate how much more wide is it meaning and message. Of course, Rieu´s peeled versions could result glamorous and briliant for newbies but also snobs guys, tasters of the easy´n fast

  • Andre has liberated the audience of classical and opera music. People in Andre's concerts can sing, dance, cheer and shout as like any other pop concerts. Why is it that audience in traditional concerts must sit tight, remain silent and clear their throats before the music begins ?

  • @tonydaigor I do agree, Andre' and his talented musicians make you feel part of the music by allowing you to participate in the joyous, serious and tragic presentations they perform. You may sing , cry or be spellbound by his orchestra and/or his soloists. I love all types of music but enjoy his performances most because I feel that I am a Participant. What does it matter how it is performed, so long as it rouses the audience and makes you feel a part of the performance.

  • When are these boring music snobs going to understand that music is nothing but feeling and emotion and that everyone feels it differently because we are different?Gosh,Andre Rieu is the one in the world with the best classical music of today.I can't think of another person who is doing such a great job with classical music but him. He feels,he senses,he listens to it and gives it a new face. This is feeling differently. Why is that so wrong, critics?I think none of you could do what he does.

  • @MrJaderTorres I'm sure somebody who cared enough could do what he does. My criticism is that these singers are just not up to it...

  • @rosscalverley Thank God my life isn't as dull and dreary as yours appears to be.

  • I had the enormous pleasure of seeing this piece last week in Detroit. Somewhat smaller in scale, but thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless. Andre is an amazing showman, and has brought "Rock Star" glam to an otherwise fading genre. The audience is cross generational, but universally enthralled. How is that anything but wonderful???

  • @rrz518 Yeah... Detroit is cradle of culture. All audience understand this music. C'mon...

  • Kimshua... that trumpet run is in the original score.

  • I love the trumpet interjection at 1:50. hahah Being primarily a trumpet player, it made me happy. haha

  • Comment removed

  • Unfortunately I put disagree to akiheavenly6 when I'd like to put for people's called bad music the Rieu'style. I love music and when I want to listen un opera in your totality I use to look for an apropriated place.Who does not like this style, please leave from here.

  • I played classical music always but when I took my 8 + 10 year old children

to a live classical concert it had such impact! And, yes, we were dressed

up, the atmossphere was wonderful. They were two very happy children

and asked to be exposed to more. I think if one has nothing nice to

say one should shutup and vent your personal unhappiness out of

a public forum. I consider public abuse very crass.

  • I love Carmen her dress so much :D

  • listen to the applause the audience gives ,he must be doing something right

    well done.

    MrPerthlad

  • Ugh.. you just can't be on Youtube and not meet pretentious music snobs. You don't look at an abstract painting and call it ugly because it's not true to life do you? Just enjoy the free interpretation of music. The target audience of his concerts are ignoramuses like me who knows dick about classical music but wants to listen without being bored out of their mind by serious people in dull suits and ugly dresses. It's a New Year show!! Disregard the glits & glam and you still have good music

  • @akiheavenly6 well spoken!

  • Well spoken!

  • @akiheavenly6 Go on your free MacBurger contest or redneck festival. That will please your desire for culture - idiot. Or maybe Beyonce classical music? Stick yo New Year carol.

  • I want to show you I am no snob and do know about real Handel performance. It might change your mind.See these Handel performances with current singers-this is the real 'raw' thing on original instruments with phrasing as it would have been played. Rieu makes it into syrup-ironically HE sounds wet and old fashioned compared to them and theres far more to Handel than Hallelujah chorus!!

    watch?v=z8PBKf2m5ps

    watch?v=46qlqSLkNhg

Real conductor and real chorus doing Mozart:

  • @blueyedboy84 Great recommendation! Thank you very much!

  • @blueyedboy84 Here's what no one has ever told you. Most peole hate classcial music. And it does not matter if it's film score, or original stuff by a composer. Take a guy like Karl Jenkins I enjoy his music but most people can't stand it becasue of the classcial sound in his music.

  • @Epica124 Your comment that 'most people hate classical music' is so ridiculous that I had to answer. It is like saying 'most people hate painting'. It is a totally ignorant statement.Geniuses like Bach,Beethoven,Mozart,Mahler,Ravel,Stravinsky are a tiny few. Start counting the 100's of millions of Beethoven 5's or Carmens or Vivaldi 4 seasons records sold by countless performers.Von Karajan the conductor sold 900 MILLION records alone-he must have really played music everyone hated.!!

  • @blueyedboy84 <pst [ep[;e om tjos dau amd age jate classcial music. Most people are to busy listening to that next aotu toned singer to even know who the hell Beethoven is. And if they do know it's because they heard it from Andre Rieu or some rock or metal bands that understand the roots of music. Why don't you go see what is played in the top of the charts these days buddy. And seeing as how more people go for Contemporary art yeah most people hate art to.

  • @blueyedboy84 I'm sorry but we are living in a day and age in which you have a 14 year old who is more well know then Beethovens 5th Symphony. And those like me that do know it still know it becasue we have heard people who still have a passion for music play it. Like him or hate him at lest Andre Rieu and others like him are keeping it alive. Let me put it to you this way. Sit down and try to watch A Trip to the Moon. Unless you really like movies you will not like it.

  • @blueyedboy84 I do enjoy movies so for me A Trip to the Moon is a really well made movie for it's time and I like going back to the roots of early movies. Most people don't in this day and age. It's a sad turth but it is the turth.

  • @Epica124 Maybe in US "most people hate classical... " Not in other part of the world. Other 6 billions, you know? Go to Disney world you USA trash.

  • muy buen video

  • Rieu has a talent for making Classical sound like total commercial Eurotrash! This is a total travesty. His formula is this: To only ever does the famous 'bits' everyone knows from washing powder adverts- and then hams it up into a cheesy bad taste confection played by satin ballgown clad women. Ugh!!!!!!!!!! It has NOTHING to do with real music. He actually is destroying classical music. The composers he plays are turned into candyfloss clappalong pap.

  • @blueyedboy84 So what qualifies you to be such an "expert"?

  • @blueyedboy84 faça melhor ou cale-se

  • @blueyedboy84 Your comment is utter travesty Taste differs. André Rieu makes classical music more accessible to the general (ignorant - less ignorant than you are by the way) public. André turns it into a proper, current day version. If you don't like it, why don't you go somewhere else with your snobbery. Any form of any type of music is acceptable. The only one that's destroying classical music is the one making destructive comments about alternative forms of the genre. In other words, YOU!

  • @ClassicalRelated I am a professional composer and player-I studied at Royal College London and Goldsmiths. Funny you think that I am ignorant ! I do NOT think cheapening music like Rieu does is a serious alternative. He is an empty showman who just distorts real music into cut-up soundbites-that is no serious alternative!! There are plenty of current Handel (if we are talking about that composer) conductors eg.John Eliot Gardiner) and orchestras who do the original music justice today.

  • @blueyedboy84 You studied at the Royal College London and Goldsmiths? Do they teach you to write inane nonsense? Your RCL study isn't worth a dime unless you can come up with some serious arguments. A professional composer you are? You've got a lo-o-o-o-o-ng way to go before you get anywere, blue eyed boy. A serious student of the RCL wouldn't like to be represented by the type of superficial argument you present, or your pathetic nickname. Would the RCL likes your childish response? I doubt it.

  • @blueyedboy84 altough millions of people are crazy about rieu, including my dad, you are so right!

The candyfloss clappalong pap you talk about, hits the nail right on the head!!!!

    Good comment

  • @blueyedboy84

I'm a fan of classical music, but i totaly agree. I know where you are coming from, but look at the big picture, at least he is trying to save classical music from the contemporary era. If you ask 100 12-14 years old today whats their favorite type of music, i bet less than 10 will say classical music.

You have to pick the lesser of two evils - keep the well known, famous peices work and edit it to fit a greater audience or do nothing watch classical music lose popularity.

  • This is how i see it anyways

  • @TheFailedAssassin How many 12-14 years are attending a Rieu concert then? Stop glorifying what he's doing. He's not trying to save classical music. He turns it into pensioner-pop and sells it to 70 year olds.

  • @blueyedboy84: The thing you call Classical is just that: classical. And it is - as classical - dead. As classical latin or classical greek. No one speaks them. And I mean no one, even in Vatican.

Classical was. And just that. No Rieu needs to destroy it because it is dead. What he does is to give life to classical partitures and music becomes alive.

    And he is really great!

BTW: I also enjoy classical interpretations of classical music. But that's another point.

  • 3:21 der sieht ein bisschen enttäuscht aus... :-\

  • You don't sit and listen to this song...you stand

  • woo! go Andre Rieu! He looked as if he was trying to control their voices because he was waving his arms all over the place... absolutely marvelous! bravo :D

  • Stupendous!

  • ein wirres durcheinander!

  • @TheLani89

und doch steckt ein system dahinter ;)
