They can't hold them in prison without charging them with a crime. Common sense should tell you that any prisoner would rather be in a prison answering to agencies, than an autonomous agency with the ability to hide torture and drugging. My husband and I both would have preferred ANY prison with in person visits, medical care, adequate food, and daily showers to CCA. That place broke every human rights law available. People who don't break laws can't be held in prison, just detention.

Closing Gitmo is the wisest decision Obama has made after the torture and lack of judicial recourse there. Closing the rest of the detention centers across America and placing these people in judicial systems that operate with ethics and due process would be the next step. This does not mean they were convicted and that is the key issue here. It is fundamentally unacceptable that people who have not been proven guilty are being held without trial for an indefinite period of time and tortured for "confessions". They can't hold them in prison without charging them with a crime. Common sense should tell you that any prisoner would rather be in a prison answering to agencies, than an autonomous agency with the ability to hide torture and drugging. My husband and I both would have preferred ANY prison with in person visits, medical care, adequate food, and daily showers to CCA. That place broke every human rights law available. People who don't break laws can't be held in prison, just detention.

Closing the rest of the detention centers across America and placing these people in judicial systems that operate with ethics and due process would be the next step. This does not mean they were convicted and that is the key issue here. It is fundamentally unacceptable that people who have not been proven guilty are being held without trial for an indefinite period of time and tortured for "confessions". The Lawyers? Are we serious? So you'll pay to keep them in jail as long as they dont have a lawyer. If I told you that u didnt have to pay for them 2 have a lawyer that they had their own & still lost, u would still have a problem with them being in a legal jail. Funny, they said the same shit when we bombed their homes. That's why shit will never end. BTW, I didn't know that Iraq was involved in 911. Afghanastan should've been hit for letting them plan 9/11 (if they were indeed the ones who did...for this argument i'll agree that they did). Bin Laden (the mastermind behind 9/11) still is roaming free but we're so concerned about Hussein and henchman #1 in Gitmo. Way to keep the priorities straight.
