My advise to you would be, join a form of the armed forces to help with the mindset of the training although MS Highway Patrol School Training is a BEAST, having a little knowledge of the physicality of the training would help. Start Running now. Even though you can't apply for MHP til your 21 get use to running and pushups and situps now. It just makes you that much more prepared. Tried to get on with MHP several times, I'm a trooper in another state now. My heart still wants the blue and grey! There is nothing like the respect, camaraderie and honor that comes with being a Trooper with MHP.

cedarridgefarms You speak of the state of TN asking for vols for early retirement? Mississippi did that too back in 1986 for all troopers with 20 years plus service. They got volunteers! Nearly 280 State Troopers retired (my dad included). It has taken 20 plus years to build the MHP back up to the size it was. Beware what you ask for Tennessee.

I think every state has, either suspended or cut back their hiring at the moment. I know Tennessee is asking for volunteers (lol, get it?? Volunteers?? hee hee) to accept early retirement. I personally think this sucks as there are too many shitty drivers out there. I also think a man in uniform is so hot, especially the blue and grey of the MHP. Tennessee troopers aint too shabby either.

This video does not do justice for the hell these guys are put through. They are very dedicated, tough, and top shape group. Certain troopers can be arrogant and cocky but they have a right to be to a certain extent since the hell they went through lasted roughly 5 months. These guys have my utmost respect and I do and will continue to support them. I don't think the navy seals go through as much as these troopers do.

I will say this much. I know the former colonel of the Highway Patrol. They have had several former navy seals,marines,army rangers fail this training.

SEALs, Marines, Rangers have failed academies through out the nation.

So therefore it means nothing if a SEAL fails a particular academy, doesn't mean that a particular academy is the toughest because a SpecOps guy failed.

You will be placed where you are needed. You do get to pick your top 3 counties you would like to work in. No guarantee that you'll get any of them. Usually around 100 or so start patrol school.

you need to be running about 4 miles before you go, in about 35 minutes. be able to do about 75 push ups and do mountain climbers for 2 minutes without stopping. then you'll be able to keep up. but honestly you can't prepare enough for what they put you thru. it's a gut check for 20 weeks. you have to be mentally strong to make yourself go back every sunday. i say that to say this, it's worth every minute of it. i wouldn't traded 1 day of my training at mhp for anything in the world. good luck!

For starters, wikipedia. And i'm assuming you're not a state trooper or you would already know this. We have been and will always be the toughest training academy in the U.S. In fact, we are one of the only ones left that use those training methods. We haven't lost a trooper in a gun fight since '88. other states average 2 a year. it's not that we encounter different criminals than they do, it's the discipline and training we receive in patrol school that keeps us alive on the highway.

This academy is the real deal. I have seen it first hand in person and it takes a very dedicated, tough, and in top shape person to encounter the tactics and head games the instructors put on them. Even the ones that tried it and came up short still have my respect. They had a special on A&E about a year ago and they said it was the toughest in the nation. Although some of these troopers are a little cocky and arrogant when they don't have to be but, they still have my utmost respect.

The training lasts approximately 5 months (21 weeks).

Yes, a lot of people drop out, it's a very intense training process. We lost 52 people out of my class, 35 the first week.

You have what is called a "wish list" that you fill out towards the end of patrol school. The patrol tries to put you close to where you're from, but not always. You basically go where they need you, but it's usually only temporary.
