looks better than what 2k is putting out. my idea for an xcom fps: make it like ghost recon. keep everything else (base management, research, ect.), but for the combat system, just make it like ghost recon or rainbow six. as I was watching the future warrior thing at e3, i kept thinking "this is what x-com should be as a fps" just imagine the terrorists in the demo as sectoids and bingo.
I don't know. The game putting on by 2k I heard have strategy elements in it. The game play trailer video we usually see is perhaps (my assumption) the ufo raid/terror site kind of mission where you command a squad into city in fps mode and those kind of stuff.
FPS is a common trend in modern day games, just like most turned base strategy game are now RTS type of game now. The final version of the gamecould be surprisingly good, at least keep some hopes up until the actual relea
@Redgrant80 they should keep it as a modern/futuristic setting though. the 50s setting is just stupid. and there isnt really any base management, or interceptor mini-games. there is a research element, but its much more limited.
So a game that looks like its play like the FPS portions of Battlezone 2 looked more promising? This looked interesting, but the new one will probably be a decent bioshock mod.
I hear the new X-Com FPS is set in the fifties and the story revolves around some kind of black ooze terrorising folk. Sounds awfully like the X-Files/Dark Skies to me...
yeah i just got the june issue of xbox magazine, and it has a sneak peek at the new bioshock powered XCom game. It actually sounded really odd from the story, then it kind of gets your interest when it talks about how the game will be real time, and you can choose to investigate leads that could turn cold while other leads are unfolding. Sounds like X-files rather than X-COM...
I've still got the cool poster of the Alien peeking around the door of a space ship pointing a Plasma Pistol right in your face...
Would have been one hell of a game... I think they would have pulled it off Real-time, watch the video again, it still kills everything today, and i mean Crysis, Gears of War, etc...
It's just got that feeling to it, that the designers KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THEY WANTED TO DO WITH THE GAME...
When this game got canceled, they all the work done to some shovelware outfit who produced "X-COM: Enforcer." It was an awful game that had practically nothing to do with the series and had none of the novel ideas from Alliance.
@greycell Sorry for being a little late, but I do remember seeing X-Com:Alliance being sold in the stores as well. Although, chances are, it was Enforcer all along. That's Russian game stores, for ya.
people just dont get it, its like the open-source remakes, all try to have specky 3d graphics (and fail horribly)...why dont they just import the original sprites or you know, make hi res ones of the same style.
It is all about game play. I don't care about all the flash. Give me a simple game that is a lot of fun. My only fault with the original X-COM was that as the difficulty level changed the story stayed the same, but that is like a lot of games.

Gameplay is important, but allot of what made x com great was its style of graphics and music, that complemented the gameplay and separated it from other games then and now.
absolutely, high-end games are a dime a dozen... well not a dime more like a hundred with monthly payments for the online stuff.... and they get boring, which is kinda like hiring a 5 grand hooker for the night and she's a dead fish in bed. Stick to the old school stuff on a great story line with fantastic gameplay and re-playability.
You have a good story the music and graphics only enhance what you have you can't expect them to carry the game for you. Most online ventrues don't really interest me, but they're improving little by little.
I'm not sad we got Enforcer (simple as it may have been, it was still good stress-relieving fun), but WHY couldn't we get this game too? It looks awesome! ...*sob*
Gamepro once predicted X-Com Alliance would be in, not the top ten, but the top 5 games of the year when it came out. Pity it didn't, still there are some hacked versions out I've heard
From what I've seen, this game had a lot of promise. It was using the Unreal engine, which is why it looks so dated now. They need to make it now, using the Unreal Engine 3! Can you imagine a squad-based X-COM FPS with BioShock-quality graphics?!?
x-com enforcer was a 3d shooter game when the player is a robot and goest out killing aliens.. as bad as my english.. =(((
I hate hasbro for stopping the production of x-com alliance, i whould really like a remae or a new game, ufo enemy unknown is one of the best dos games on most lists, but was left on the past.. =((
From the previews, this game sounded like it was going to be very innovative. I certainly would have enjoyed this game more than Quake 4 or Doom 3 or any of those rehashed FPSes...
to bad it was scrapped I had looked fowrad to it... though i'll admit... I didn't have much faith in a first person shooter of X-Com... but I was more then willing to give it a chance.
Oh wait. Collector's Edition? Like, 1998?
Because the 1998 beta was nothing like that.

@MGMan37 Yup it is, they were developing it on the Unreal engine at the same time that Unreal was being developed.

@TheBetaTube Some files in the leaked 1998 beta are from 1995. Crazy stuff, this game was like Duke Nukem Forever before Duke Nukem Forever.

I wish this would have came out. It looked really good.
I always thought it would be cool having a world view map, then a FPS style missions after you down their alien craft.
Oh well.

This is how an X-COM FPS should be like. At least it looks a lot more faithful to X-COM.

XCom UEU and Apocalypse were the greatest pcgames in history.
I wished they would return.

I really enjoyed Interceptor, since it gave me the chance to go hands on and blow aliens across space, while keeping the strategic elements.
