It would lose its touch imo, for mainly two reasons.

1st- her sweet voice singing in french with a heavy english accent is just lusty enough for that song.

2nd- theres some quirks in the song that wouldnt sound the same just like 1:13 where she says something that sounds like "a shot of Sherry, some S(C)herry my darling how I'm feeling lonely"

@JeeCeeEll This song was originally written in English. The Mamas & the Papas wrote it in the 1960's... I think she was more asking for THAT English version...
