  • Jerry Ferry?

  • play this song with the bass way up and wait for the ceiling to fall down

  • One of the best song's ever made without a shadow of a doubt along with 2hb and beauty queen FACT !!!

  • @seanalbion20 To HB' was & has been so misplaced by the Music Industry when it came to Award's! .This track was one of Ferry's own personal favourite's and live's on like "H'B", along with so many other "Roxy Music" Track's,..... Which is your Favourite I ask ALL? ;-)..... Mine's I think? lol! is "Both End's Burning" because I was that age of realising what real Music was! whilst The Glam Pretender's made and churned out mediocre well loved crap!, those were the day's!. Smilemediagroup

  • As a disc jockey in the late 70's and early 80's, I played this song every chance I could. I personally think this is the best tune Roxy Music ever did. It makes the hair stand up on my neck...and works its way through my nervous system and plugs into my brain.

  • if Ray Davies is the bard man and nostalgic man in rock, so Bryan Ferry is the romantic and stylish guy in rock

  • This album has 37 years on it?! Damn it, we're getting old! But then, I remember saying the same thing in 2000 when I realized that "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" had turned 30. Great upload and , btw, I didn't know until just now, about the Jobson viola solo. Thanks for the very interesting info. Respect from Michigan. Power to the Peaceful.

  • @donaldnewmanmedone - Wow... I can't even believe that. But then that's happened with so much of my favorite music. It being over with before I got there.. etc. Man Roxy is timeless. It's so good to hear this again. Jobson for the bonus win. Love this stuff forever.

  • the intro alone makes this song a freakin classic.

  • @cosmicrider287 best album they ever made...got to be played loud..[like all music]..preferablly stoned...doh...rock n roll...lennydylan

  • the mountain top of studio production..a perfect song..europe got it..but just think if american would have tried? OUT OF THE BLUE, would have been a huge hit, something BRYAN FERRY, is still looking for. the highlight, it's pretty obvious. EDWIN JOBSON'S viola solo at the end. my friend, who had never heard of ROXY MUSIC, after hearing this song for the first time..instant conversion..

  • Love the Bass.

  • Love Roxy Music! This is my favorite

  • Sounds new in 2011.

  • amsterdam 1977...vita un roxy

  • first album iever bought blew my mind then and nearly 40 years on still does got all the albums in frames on the wall great covers

  • when I was a little kid my dad used to blast this song while we went for spirited drives in his 911 cabriolet. this song, my dad adeptly thrashing the car around the Wisconsin back-road bends, the sound of that air cooled flat-6 and the cover of this album sitting conveniently in the glovebox for me to look at was one of my first steps to manhood.

  • Fucking Astounding Track !

    Deek Society......

  • one of my favourit roxy tracks, thankyou mr pearce all those years ago for hooking me up with this band back in the 70s

  • She `jerry hall` is on the cover of `for your pleasure`...look real close ...`Bryan ferry ` is the limo driver...

  • @calvin18881 Amanda Lear. Hall is on the cover of Siren.

  • Phil Manzanera' solo guitar sends shivers down my spine!

  • @lyonslaforet If you mean the solo at the end, it's Eddie Jobson on electric violin lol....had me fooled for 30+ years

  • @kentishbloke Well as far as I'm concerned I had been fooled for more than 10 years. I also had the privilege to see Roxy Musix live in August 2010 for their sole French date and they played this gem!

  • @kentishbloke Sorry it had you fooled for so long. The timbre of Jobson's violin is incomparable to Manzanera's guitar.

  • @rherbert57 TRUE,,but i'm a tone deaf old fucker :)

  • @kentishbloke And Im colour deficient (red-green). I bet you have perfect vision. Better to be tone deaf than color-blind. But I bet if you were blind, you could tell which string Eddie was drawing. ;-)

  • i have every roxy album

  • wake-n-bake complete!

  • Hahaha In a dream I had, me and a thousand people were building an underground rollercoaster. and there was Bryan Ferry singing this song in German with the whole Hitler get up - almost like ordering us to keep building... That image is forever embedded in my head.

  • just. sublime

  • This album ROCKED the 8 Track in my 62 Volvo for years along with STRANDED.

I loved the way the *8 track tapes * would sometimes have different sequential programing from the album and you could play the same track (2 or 3 songs) over and over

Led Zeppelin and The Youngbloods Elephant Mountian ... where were the Ipods in the 70's ???

  • does anyone kno what synth was used on this track??

  • great intro love it perfect for my mood

  • one of the best fade ins ever.thank you kentishbloke!

  • I heard one of the women on the cover is the sister of some cat that used to play in Can before he died.

  • This cover had two models that Bryan Ferry met in Portugal... One of their names was konstance Karolli and the other's name was grunwald. I forgot the first name.

  • Remember asking my brother to go and pick up this album when it was released and I was quite shocked at the cover. It was banned in the US if I recall correctly. Thought it was truly tacky, really - and embarassing as my parents had only just got over the cover of Stranded...!

  • I love this song.

  • I don't know if I like Jerry Hall on Siren (witchy-looking) or the girl on the right: she's a little masculine in the face. Not that androgyny is bad it's horrible.. just for a cover I want the girl next door .. oh well I'm sure people will write me as to how can I look at the face? I just think the one model's hand should cover the face of the other. I started to sweat cause people on YT are so witty when they write me "you're an idiot". Yeah that's the one I get and covet the most.

  • In college ca. 1975 I traded my roomie in college from LancasterPA a red-clear copy of J Geils "Bloodshot" for this LP with the orig. nudie cover.

I think I made the right choice.

  • Dammnn Brian rocks. Consumate vocalist/musician. Love him.

  • This is one of my favourite Roxy songs. Thanks for posting. Oh I love the ending with the bass and keyboards!

  • This is one of my favourite Roxy songs. Thanks for posting.

  • Great Band,

    Thanks for posting!

  • I think this is one of the Top 10 great rock songs of all time. Incredibly innovative, technically virtuosic but still way over the top cool. And Brian Ferry's one of the most underrated and unique rock singers of all time...not to mention Eddie Jobson, so unsung as a great rock violinist. And the drumming is incredible. Love how the notes conflict so beautifully on that flat 2nd chord with the minor 7th.

  • When I was growing up in the 70s-80s, I didn't realize just how good we had it musically. In the years since music has slowly declined to the point where today most of it is just garbage.

  • @desertrat218 Even to the point that there is band called Garbage.

  • I'll bet I haven't heard this song in 25 years. They used to play this and many other Roxy Music songs on the radio. Those were the days when radio actually had people who played more than just the standard 20. You may not hear the song again for two weeks, but everything in between was just as great. Sure do miss those days.

  • just 2 fans on the beach in portugal, everyday stuff for them

  • @54taqiyya oh ya, at 2 am, lol, 1 of the gals helped with the german lyrics on this lp.

  • SHE WAS ON SIREN......THE ALBUM COUNTRY LIFE AND MANY OF THE TRACKS....PRAIRIE ROSE ,OUT OF THE BLUE....,ALL I WANT IS YOU....MAY HAVE BEEN ABOUT HER.....SHE WENT ON TO GO OUT WITH......JAGGER....

  • Why the hell this band isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just baffles me.

  • @therealsoulproduct they put bands in there that are commercially viable and have classic status it's bullshit because there's so many bands that aren't in there that deserve to be (Rush, Wishbone Ash, Roxy Music, and many more that I'm probably missing)

  • Brilliant band, just as exciting now.......cool

  • Brian Ferry was hooked up with Jerry Hall around this time, I believe. Was she ever on an Album cover?

  • @kevinlynn1979 I believe she was on Siren

  • @kentishbloke Yes, that's her on Siren.

  • @kentishbloke Yes that's her on the Siren cover.

  • @kentishbloke Yes, she is on Siren.

  • @kevinlynn1979 She was on Siren., thats how they met. After the photo shoot for the album he took her back to his house to help her scrub the blue paint off!

  • @kevinlynn1979 Jerry Hall was on the cover of Siren. On utube you can find a great docu about that cover.

  • @Mink015 Thank you, I'll check that out!

  • @kevinlynn1979

Yeah, she was that two timing mermaid bitch on that ,(their last half decent album) cover.A sure omen of an artisticly declining Roxy.

They sadly never bettered their first four .

  • @kevinlynn1979 Yes, on the Roxy album "Siren"

  • Wow, this track really puts Japan into perspective! Something I didn't appreciate back in the early 80's when I wouldn't have believed that Japan were influenced by ANYBODY!

  • They should reunite the 2 women on the cover and do a current day photo, dressed as they were then.

  • @SubconsciousGatherer That might come under the heading of "Too much information." ;-)

  • Nice Bass line.

  • This is such a great song! I haven't heard in a long time! THANKS!!!

  • @mazak6811 You're welcome...delve deeper into my archives :))

  • I can't believe how great this song is. Even more, I can't believe I never heard it until discovering this video. I need to find more songs where they rock like this. And I can definitely detect their influence on a band like Duran Duran after hearing a few of these older tunes. Great stuff!

  • @casheasy Glad to be of service..anything else you need, just ask lol...Had to delete va lot of stuff (copy write shit)

  • when I was in H school Iin 1976 I had bought thiis album. A year latter my stero and all my albums were stolen from my first apartment . When I went to replace this album they had to rplace the cover. ; which shows just a bunch of plants. I was pisssed both to the asso who brk in my apartment and to the censors who removed the two girls.

  • @frank02111 It was me lol :)

  • @kentishbloke Two girls are Germans, I think not professional models, but tourists found accidentally, as I remember...

  • @ThePaintermanful

In the name of accuracy; the one on the left can't be German as she shaves her armpits.

  • @frank02111 This must have been in US as the cover wasn't censored in UK. Sorry for your loss.

  • I didn't realize that my 'girlfriends' made the cover. Oh well. I 'guess' it's okay. But only this once. ; )

Well.... it was a 'nice' dream, anyway. : )

  • This song kicks ass - always has

  • Ferry found them in a bar in Portugal, german chicks> Constanze Karoli (the one at the right) and Eveline Grunwald (obviously the one at the left).I think Michael Karoli, from the krautrock band Can and Constanze were cousins. And Eveline was in love with him, or something like that.

  • Ferry found them in a bar in Portugal, german chicks> Constanze Karoli the one at the right, and Eveline Grunwald, obviously the one at the left ha.

  • Très sexy

  • I saw this group in concert in 2001. Great show and great song!!! I remember this song from back when this album came out when I was 10 years old!

  • "For Your Pleasure" and "Country Life" are outstanding on their all albums.

  • @elephanta2 And this is their best album for me.

  • @elephanta2 me too!

  • Nice song...

P.S: The person on the right side is a man, he is transexuak

  • @army1945 you suppose or it's true???

  • he found them on the beach in Spain or Portugal and asked them to pose, iirc. german gals who helped with the some lyric trans on this lp.

  • he found them on the beach in Spain or Portugal and asked them to pose, iirc. german gals who helped with the some lyric trans on this lp.

  • ooops..i meant PHIL Manzanara, not Pete.

  • Pete Manzanara totally rocked on guitar...and this bass line is one of that has stuck in my head for 35 yrs.

  • Heaven. And it always will be perfect - such a gem.

  • The beginning is my favorite part, so spellbinding.

  • my favourite song by them

  • It is a good song....their live version of this is also great

  • Some of the most phenomenal production in rock history...amazing song.

  • fucking dope shit

  • Hyperbole and jokes aside this has to be one of the mightiest pop-rock efforts of the mightiest decade for rock and pop, the 70s

  • @jasonpfinch oh yeah I'm with you dude on that one.

  • Every cover art by Peter Saville is a masterpiece!

  • cool

  • what did Obi won Kenobi say " An eloquent band for a more enlightened age"

luv Roxy from when I was 17. That was 23 years ago.

    Peace

  • Na man, YOU don't anything about this type of musi. Your only interest were the women. The LADY in the black was my first LOVE♥ Heck, I was only in the forth grade. That LADY is German the other one is named Evelin. Roxy Music has allways used women in their covers. It does not mean that they too are musicians. Hello Constance Karoli. your Beautiful. From an admirer♥♥♥♥

  • This song is excellent,I can't get beyond it!!

  • Got to see them the year after this album came out. Supported by Split Enz. Gotta admit that album cover had a powerful effect on a teen mind.

  • Their best song?? Maybe re-make / re-model??

  • Roxy Music is better than nay drug.

Come to think of it, Roxy Music is most probably better than anything and anybody.

  • wooooooooeeeeeeeeee

  • FUCK this still sounds so good, all the way from 1976!

I remember buying this LP in 1977 and hearing this again, wow

The 2 girls on the front still look good too

  • A truly astonishing performance by a band at the very height of their powers. Amazing instrumentation, particularly the bass in the outro.

  • When there is music like this, why would anyone need recreational drugs ?.

  • Yes, this is as good as any drug.

  • I agree.

This song is, truly, magical. I'm a recording artist, myself.

I love Roxy Music. If you like this kinda stuff...I would invite you to give my original songs a listen.

    Simply:

    1) Go onto my youtube profile channel, here and...

    2) click on the WEBSITE URL icon (located in the bio section)

Definitely, let me know what you think, k?

    Thanks

  • Roxy- magical mix of vocals, lyrics, personalities which can get a sinking soul through a hell of a lot!

  • 1:58 Then, out of the blue, love came rushing in :)

  • GREAT!!..Fabulous musicians a kind of Spector's Wall Sound ten years after!!

  • stunning intro,volume up.

  • The brilliance of Jobson's violin solo is greatly enhanced by the tightness of Wetton's bass and Tommo's drums. They both pump out a powerful rhythm for Eddie to soar with his violin

  • another Roxy classic coming up VERY soon :)

  • It's John Gustafson on bass, not Wetton.

  • Mea culpa. That's the problem with Roxy; keeping track of the bass players. Wetton played this in some of the live shows in 75/76, as far as I recall.

    Apologies.

  • No need to apologise. You're right. Wetton played on the Country Life tour but it was Gustafson on the album.

  • how bloody fabulous!! wot a tune it rocks! loved roxy for years

  • Phase-shifter set on high as the violin wails and these two siren-models out by the Oleanders somewhere in the Hamptons, no doubt. I'm picturing Brian Ferry in tux doing his best Béla Lugosi impersonation as he lures them to perform diabolical deeds upon one another.

  • The girls are German. He'd want to be persuasive

  • He was at the time married to one of them, a model, not sure which one... at least that's what I remember being told...

    :)

  • not true..sadly :)

  • The cover features two scantily-clad models, Constanze Karoli (reportedly the sister of Can's Michael Karoli) and Eveline Grunwald. Bryan Ferry met them in Portugal and persuaded them to do the photo shoot as well as to help him with the words to the song "Bitter-Sweet". Although not credited for their photos they are credited on the lyric sheet for their German translation work.

  • mdawson101: AFAIK, the one on the right is (was?) called Constance Lanterman. They're German and were indeed on holiday in Portugal. The story is in various places on the net and in print. Wonder what became of her.

  • This is the first album I bought with my own money, I was 10!!..Gemco in Signal Hill,California...

  • @LBjim You spent your money wisely.

  • @aurora1957A He married Lucy Ferry, a socialite and model who is on the cover of "Avalon"

  • @aaaesme Ah, thank you! Bit of a mix up on my part then.

    :)

  • I never knew much about Roxy Music through the years, but guess I should have, since this song is incredible.

  • great audio! nicely done!

  • Perfect! This was all I wanted, the studio version (although yes, many great live versions on here). Thank you so much :-)

  • Yes, great band and song...

    Phil Manzanera...great G player.

    Jane.

  • A great band and tune.

    Nice models aswell.. :)

  • great bass player Phil (john gustavson)

  • Indeed! Siren is my fav RM album. "She sells" is a fantastic tune.

  • first roxy album with TWO ladies on the front

  • Thank you Tim.

I love Roxy and their solo acts, this song,XD.

Do You know about UKZ(E.J's new band)?
