Haven't heard this song in years but was going through a lot of older metal tonight and thought of this album. I forgot how awesome the cover looks... and it sounds! Thanks for the upload, man.
@joshmattg For classic progressive metal you can't go wrong with Dream Theater. If you want to try some heavier prog melodic death metal check out Into Eternity - The Scattering of Ashes album is my favorite with the songs Severe Emotional Distress, Timeless Winter and A Past Beyond Memory. Also check out Scar Symmetry.
@vindude1968 na man after more oldschool bands like 80s-early 90s stuff, ive found shit loads of bands but just wondering if you know any other hidden gems out there that im yet to get my hands on, plus i use to listen to into eternity and scar symmetry all the time :)
there arent really any bands that sound like classic fates warning. The closest resemblance is classic USPM with bands such as manilla road and helstar.
@tomcatha hmm manilla road im not a fan of but helstar are brilliant, theyre 2008 album 'the king of hell' is great, ive found loads of bands that are kind of similar to fates warning, vocal-wise, if you want some il be happy enough to give you some names and you can give them a shot
I do understand why most people adore "Awaken The Guardian" that much but for me personally, "The Spectre Within" is the most awesome metal masterpiece ever! I like the whole atmosphere on this one better than on its successor. These songs never get boring, not a chance!
@SonataFanatica yee man! another masterpiece album that is like this is symphony-x, check the album out 'the damnation game', absolutely outstanding musicians, russell allen is a fantastic vocalist too :)
@joshmattg I already got "The Damnation Game", "The Divine Wings Of Tragedy" and "Twilight In Olympus" (I didn't like the newer ones that much, though). And yes, you're right: Russell Allen is so amazing!
Akkasoothy, no such thing as "too epic". LOL! That's what made FW so unique. It's progressive metal. Long intros, multiple time signature changes and multiple melodies throughout. No commercial formulaic rules to follow in this style of music. Hopefully you liked the song as a whole. Keep It Metal \m/
sounds like helloween vocally

Metallica called, they want their uncomfortably long intro back.

@MurkyVids they can drown in a pool of vomit because this album succeeds metallica in every way possible.

Am I the only one who can't stand the vocals? It sounds like he's trying way to hard.

Don't try Dream Thater, it has nothing to do with prog metal. Try Watchtower instead.

Yeah the start goes for about 1:45. However the things they play during this time could easily be enough for some other band's whole LP...haha
