is the rav4 a FWD or 4WD? this is an honest question. i simply cannot tell if the rumours are true or not.

How did you get the RAV4 stuck? Looks like power is not going to one or both rear wheels. No rear LSD and no locking locking center diff? My 99 RAV4 has a rear LSD and a viscous center diff.

@mousepad99 you're right i did get a kid, a nice boy. he's too young to enjoy riding on the beach in our land rover, but i have a feeling that car will be around even by the time he's old enough to drive... wrong about the coupe though, i'm more of a public-transportation kind of guy

@SleepyDownHill its a AWD car..does not refer to 4x4. 4x4 is a locked differential system. Rav4 have on demand 4wd which is not equal to 4x4. This car is mostly FWD

Rav4 is fine for light offroading, very rugged and uneven areas a Jeep Wrangler, Hummer, Land Cruiser, Land Rover, 4x4 trucks, or even the bigger and taller SUVs like 4Runner/Sequoia/Highlander will do far better.

Maybe if this Rav got 4WD and maybe a slight lift too. Or just plow through it and risk bumper damage.

We had a loan of one of these when we visited Norway last winter i was really impressed with how well it coped in heavy snow they are not as bad as people like to make out. guess thats why they are so popular in Scandinavia, if it good enough for the Scandiwegians its good enough for me.

I like Toyota's but their awd system is terrible. It only works if all wheels have the same amount of traction. Honda CRV and Toyota RAV4 are nice vehicles and would be better if they had better torque management systems like Subaru does.
