Thank you so much! I did have the permission issue but I found that if I "get info" on each of the "etc" and "host" file and change all the permissions to "read & write" then enter password for each THEN RE-LOCK the permission lock on the bottom left. Then it allowed me to save.

it tells me: The document “hosts” could not be saved. You do not have appropriate access privileges.  i think the problem is that when you clicked on get info..all I saw was : system, wheel and everyone... what can I do??

@tipibo read the description and watch the video carefully. it shows you how to give permission so you can edit the file. if not just google= how to give permission to a file on a mac or something like that.

TO ALL HAVING TROUBLE WITH NOT ABLE TO SAVE THE HOSTS FILE:

You must do the same thing to the hosts file as you did with the etc file. Change the permissions to "Read and Write"

Make sure when doing this to click the lock in the bottom corner to be able to change this.

@MrDeurkruk hey do0d, i followed the video too and it wouldn't let me save...what i realized is when he changes the info on the ECT folder, he has his account in it. make sure when ur in the info part, have ur account in it too and have it as read and write. if u dont see ur account, which happend to me, select the plus symbol on the bottom left, select ur account, add, and have it as read and write. try saving and youll b able too. make sure u do this on the ECT FOLDER,

Thanks so much for your tutorial video the first try I didn't get it on my Mac mostly because I am new to the Mac world however I have restore twice to 3.1.2 on my PC and now I got the Mac to accept the Hosts edit. I don't want to test it just for the sake of seeing if it works but knowing that the Mac excepted the edit I think I am good. At least I know I can restore and maintain my jailbreak until a new JB comes out that will work on 3gs new bootrom:-)

you should change permissions only on hosts file and then after editing switch permissions back again ...
