@pollotkd yes thats true of the movie never back down i saw it nice movie............soe i have to beat you them cause youre the best............tell me are you the best?
Part III would actually have made more sense if it had been Part II. For one thing, it's more of a direct sequel. But also, it makes no sense that Daniel would be afraid of Mike in Part III. In Part II, Chozen wants to literally murder Daniel and the two have a fight to the death. After surviving that, Daniel wouldn't be frightened of a tournament fighter, no matter how good/brutal he might be. It would have been better to have the death match against Chozen be the climax of the trilogy.
That's the point where most of movie critics fail. You didn't take the message of this scene.
Daniel wasn't better than this guy, he was going to lose the match, he knew that. But the fact is that in the end, he realized that it doesn't matter if you lose giving your best. But to give the best you just have to focus and forget all the emotional things involved.
Adding to my previous comment, aside from the lack of narrative or emotional stakes to the last fight, the fight itself wasn't even written with a point in mind. They have a fairly simple fight with the twist that Barnes keeps punching him and losing points (you'd think the ref would have caught on and disqualified him after about the third time?). Daniel whines and the big message "you best karate still inside". SO? Then Daniel uses a boring maneuver to sneak a win. AND? That's It? Who cares
As boyish as Macchio looked, he was really starting to show his age here. Very similar to Back to the Future II and III for Michael J. Fox. Both film series take place over a period of a few weeks to a few months but the 4 or 5 years between films were enough time for its stars to not convincingly pull off being teenagers.
Daniel's crying to Miyagi just symbolizes the pointlessness of this sequel. What's Daniel afraid of? Losing? Big deal. There's no real stakes involved. In the first film it was about gaining respect (and balance and self-confidence) by facing his bullies man to man.
Dude this is for entertainment...90 percent of movies would never even exist if they were trying to make a point or make sense in the real world....get a life sheesh LOL!!!
What sucks is that you never get to see Daniel master karate, in every movie he gets his ass kicked untill the final scene. I would like to see Daniel walking down the street when muggers come up to him, and Daniel busts out his karate and kicks their asses. But no, in the final karate kid part 3, the last time we see Daniel fight, he's whinning like a bitch. And that's it, he get's one lucky move in and wins. And that was the last movie with Daniel, I want to cry every time I watch it.
it actually made me cry when Daniel yelled at Mr. Miyagi... and to see Mr. Miyagi cry, I'm just glad he forgave him, it may be a movie but they had such an amazing journey together...
Ithink Daniel should have taken a beating from mike, then Mr Miyagi tells him to let out his karate (before sudden death.) Then Daniel gets a point with crane technique, then a point with drum technique, then the final point with kata.
@mm031997 That would have been the shit, the drum technique would get Daniel disqualified fast, and come to think about it the crane kick should have been ilegal too, They said there was a no face ocntact rule, yet Daniel kicked Johnny in the face and got the point? Weird. The third move was really the only legal move to do.
@TheCrazyplaying Mike kicking Daniel in the groin and punching him in the face doesn't get him disqualified, explain how a palm strike to the side of the face does. This movie was bullshit in the way that Daniel was broken by Mike and Daniel only won by getting lucky in sudden death. I would have like to have seen Daniel truly overpower Mike.
@Reyrocksall Yes but, the fourth film didn't pick up from the events that happened during the third film. Probably because Mr. Miyagi was in a different state, and it was a new student where John Kreese, Terry Silver, and Mike Barnes had problems with Daniel and not the new student.
I was stunned that I herd Ralph Macchio is older then Thomas Ian Griffith the guy who plays Terry Silver but Ralph is only older by one year even though Thomas looks older
If I was Daniel and I had just gone through all that pain, right after doing the kata and flipping barnes over, and I win and he knocks on the ground because of how close he was, I would have just pushed him and said better luck next time, even if it would have gotten me an ass kicking lol
first one was the best.in 2&3 he already knows karate he just got a couple more karate moves. in 2 & 3 he just shows up and there is some guy he dosnt like or a guy thats being mean and retarted and daniel acts like a hero.in #1 he dosnt know anything and then becomes unstopable to the cobra kai.
@rdfrds I saw Daniel kind of struggle in The Karate Kid Part 3 Daniel was a little more fat in Part 3 then in the other 2 and he was also a wimp but he pulled though in the end
@rdfrds It sounds like your making your comment official, but it's not . . . it's just your opinion . . . the second is more about Miyagi . . . and the third is more about them both . . . . . . the whole series isn't just about Daniel.
@MRSTONE969 I don't think it's that people don't get it. I think it's that the script is so absurd in an attempt to drive home the message that it's just goofy. Terry Silver was gold as the moustache twirling villain, but in a funny way (I dump toxic waste for a living, MUAHAHAHAHA!!). The Mike Barnes character has no development, and simply doesn't work depicting a high school kid. Daniel was whiny, bitchy, and completely unlikeable. And Mr. Myagi decided 'ass kicking better than fight'
I'm sorry, but I found this whole movie to be ridiculous. Daniel just got back from a fight to the death in Okanawa and ends up not only getting his ass kicked for the entire movie, but the entire end fight as well. You can't get behind an underdog that puts up no fight at all. And I know it's a movie, but they could have tried to be a little real. Any experienced martial artist knows what a kata looks like, and would have just kicked him in the head instead of standing there looking stupid..
lol seriously though the ending to the new karate kid was way better. the fights were more realistic in my opinion. Daniel should have never won any of these lol. just they had to make it so he won so it would be inspirational. But in actuality, this guy was a much better fighter than him and should have won. Johnny in the first Karate Kid should have won. lol no way he COULD NOT HAVE seen that crane kick coming. Seriously guys?:P
@EyeLoveTheStars wow the idiocy in this comment is mind boggling. The kids in the new karate kid were ridiculously good like Chinese trained ninjas, flipping around and doing acrobatics. Then in the span of a couple months Jaden Smith is back flipping and doing the craziest shit and beats them. That sudden jump completely took me out of the movie. Daniel in the 1st one was fighting high school kids who got trained by some guy in a strip mall. He learned basic Karate but knew it well.
@MikeyIV lol look, lol they were diong basic kicks and blocks. What the fuck are you talking about? lol you mean that one back flip that Jaden did in the end? Yeah, that was probably fake but it was still overall more realistic considering his opponent didn't see it coming. UNlike Daniel who you knew was going to do that crane kick. I mean c'mon, corny much? ..Granted, he knew karate well but he was getting his ass kicked by nearly all of the cobra kais. His wins weren't convincing=p
@EyeLoveTheStars dude watch that movie again. Those kids were super ninjas flipping around fighting like Jackie Chan. They looked like they were trained out of the womb. It was completely crazy that Jaden got to that level in such a short period of time. The original was a little more believable since the kids seemed like just american high school kids who knew karate. Granted, both movies are not very realistic but the new one is REALLY UNREALISTIC
this is what the karate kid movies wants to teach as i think. it doesnt matter if the enemy is stronger, it matters to stay focus and not be scared so u can win the enemy..
I hate how the other kid beats the shit out of him and then Daniel gets one point and wins. The ending was so bittersweet. Ya Daniel won, but the other kid technicaly was a better fighter since he got more hits in a purposely threw points away b/c he was told to. The ending to the other karate kids was SOOO much better.
Yes he was getting beaten the entire round but the whole point of the end was that Daniel finally learned how to fight without his fear blocking Mr Miyagi's superior techniques. Unlike what most people are saying, I do think what the movie is trying to say is that by using Kata in his match he reaches a higher fighting ability and could now continue to beat Barnes had he been given more time.

His cheesy sudden death kata at the end doesnt make up for Barnes owning him the entire match. This was LaRusso's only match. Barnes went through an entire tournament and still beat the living shit out of LaRusso. LaRusso got kicked in the balls infront of a thousand people. Instead of that firing him up, he still gets owned and ends up on the ground saying he's afraid. That cheesy little point at the end, falls far short of redeeming his performance.
@lawwoman617 Whatever you say. Watch 0:38 lol. It shows that if LaRusso wasnt in a controlled environment he wouldve gotten killed even with the kata. The kata I guess is good for tricking someone for one point. In real life Barnes wouldve got much up easily and then went back to kicking the shit out of Daniel san.
@jksonny I wonder too why Daniel would afraid of Barnes. I like you said, Chozen from KK2 tried to murder him, and here in KK3, Barnes is trying to humiliate and make Daniel look bad rather than kill him.
This movie had the same potential as Rocky V, it was just purely executed. But the scene at 00:30 - 1:10 is unbelievable. It reminded me of the Mickey flashback in Rocky V. It's scenes like this that make it worth while.
Should have brought back Johnny Lawerence for this movie. He could have helped Daniel against a common enemy, Kreese. Also Johnny would have kicked Barnes ass
@DEACONFROST11 I don't know about that. That sounds like it would have been copy of the Rocky movies. Rocky fighting 2 matches with Apollo then Apollo helping Rocky fight Clubber Lang.
@DEACONFROST11 I thought they should have brought back all 5 of them for this one personally! If Kreese was still going to be bad at least the bullies could redeem themselves!
@Joelomite Yeah, I thought about that.....I don't think that was the point of the movie at all. It was more of a "good will prevail over the evil use" type of moral. Although, I would have loved to have seen Daniel win by reversing a dirty move from Barnes.
@Beatle911 True. Think of Rocky 4 when he POUNDED Drago into dog meat. That's what I longed to see in KK3. Hell, there was even respect from Drago afterwards. Everything was done WRONG in KK3 and that's why it did so poorly.
@Joelomite Meh, I attribute it more to Karate Kid II not living up to the original's expectations. Larusso always won with cheap wins, so I don't worry about it much. It actually makes me wonder if Miyagi's teaching methods are effective at this point.
@Beatle911 didn't know if you knew, but Pat Morita (Miyagi) was never a martial artist, he was simply choreographing. In actuality, both him AND Danny would've been whooped by Cobra Kai. It was an 80s inspirational movies series, so many impossible things were shown to be possible, including Danny's fluke wins :-)
@Joelomite Yeah, lol. Hence I said Mr.Miyagi's methods, not Pat Morita's. I'm just surprised that Daniel-San never got a legit win over anybody in the movie. Even Miyagi had to guide him through the fight with Chozen. Although I guess the competition wins were legit. Daniel-san would have been destroyed if he had been in a real fight.
@codeman95291 chozen was stronger than daniel. but his live was in danger and daniel had to fight like a streetfighter.he was not in the same situation when he fought barnes .
@666voltanaligern yeah, i know but it seemed like daniel put up more of a fight against chozen then he did against barnes it seemed like barnes beat him easier even when they were fighting in mr miyagi's tree shop which was similar to a street fight but you're right when he fought chozen his life was in danger
@07Thenightshadow The karate kid or kung fu kid really sucks,,,it teaches that in China a kid has to be a kungfu expert to be accepted there. Its sick.
I DONT CARE WHAT ANYBODY SAYS. THE FINAL KICK IN THE NEW KARATE IS WAY BETTER THAN THE CRANE KICK. SOME OF THE FIGHT CHOREOGRAPHY WAS BETTER TOO. PPL JUST HATE IT CAUSE OF THE NAME AND WHO THE STAR WAS.
@gambit07jc85 I think you miss the point. Daniel has never been a tough guy, they couldn't have found a less masculine actor if they tried, that's the whole point of the film! The climax at the end is all about Miyagi's training pulling off against what seemed like certain doom for Daniel. Just listen to the climax build with the music at 1:41 and then the BIG finish at 2:18 with the hiptoss and ground punch. They just do not make films like this anymore, this stayed with me as a kid to now.
This... is just painful to watch, he completely murders the Kata! Could they not have had someone who actually knows some Karate star in the film, or, heck, actually train him at least a little?
@AndrisStafeckis456 I wouldn't call this a Kata. It's more like a show-off (to me), and i think he did a pretty good job at it. You know, he just wanted to get into the tiger stance, and confused Mike in the process
@frandseib It is actually a Kata: /watch?v=SOPpJanMafY , unless, of course, you are referring to his half-ass style of execution canceling the validity of the Kata. It's way too rushed and he obviously has no idea of any of the Bunkai involved in the Kata.
@AndrisStafeckis456 i will admit i know nothing bout Goju-Ryu, but i on't thin these look alike, and I honestly think, that Daniel's is better, sorry, but that's my opinion
@frandseib Well, as someone who has studied Goju-Ryu for a little while now, including this Kata, I must say I feel nothing put sheer physical pain watching him try to execute it, but I respect your opinion regardless.
@AndrisStafeckis456 I appreciate that, a lot in fact. Of course i respect your opinion as well, and your's is probably the right, since i know nothing about Goju-Ryu
i actualy like all the kk films , even the hilary wank one , oops i mean hillary swank , sorry missed the s out haha , not sure about the new gen , but i enjoyed it
it pisses me off on imdb when people say Miyagi was gay and wanted daniel, they were friends and that was it, he was a teacher to him and a kind of father / friend. he wanted Daniel to go to college and reluctantly took on the business (which maybe was a mistake) it would have been nice if Danny had got it together with that girl before the end tho
@TURBODORK2 it annoys me too. But Danny was such a FAT WUSS in this film, it's hard to defend him. He looked so unbelievably bad. You WISHED he'd have kicked Barne's ass and broke his face into smithereens. As for homosexuality, I think Kreese and Silver were bed buddies. I'm sure Terry put his "Silver" katana in Kreese's glory hole every night at the CK Dojo.
I saw all those trophies sitting on the table from 2:32-2:57 but, I wonder why it never showed any of the judges giving a trophy to Daniel since Daniel won the tournament. (It couldn't of been a deleted scene or something if Daniel got a trophy or was rewarded for winning). It was great to see Daniel getting a trophy on the first film but, I wonder why it never showed why Daniel wasn't handed a trophy or if he got rewarded in any way for winning the tournament.
It's over , its over im afraid ! .. You must not! it ok to lo lose with the oponent but not with fear !! just epic words!!!

this is what the karate kid movies wants to teach as i think. it doesnt matter if the enemy is stronger, it matters to stay focus and not be scared so u can win the enemy..

2. karate kid 3
3.karate kid 2
the other karate kid movies sucks BIG TIME.
ybet0ula2 4 months ago
I just watched this as an adult, for the first time since I was a very little kid. It's funny how so many things jump out at you:
1) Ralph Macchio is annoying as hell in this movie. No wonder Daniel never kept a girlfriend.
2) The Teen Witch chick isn't nearly as hot as I remembered her. She's cute, but not all that hot.
3) All the tree scenes and the scenes with the girl are just filler. The movie doesn't start until Silver visits the house
4) New rule? Only fight one match? Give me a break...
ProduceMan117 4 months ago
Danielson was a bit stiff with that kata though.

JimmDonahue 4 months ago
@JimmDonahue The kata is the best part u shit. THE KATA OWNS
lawman617 4 months ago
@lawwoman617 Whatever you say. Watch 0:38 lol. It shows that if LaRusso wasnt in a controlled environment he wouldve gotten killed even with the kata. The kata I guess is good for tricking someone for one point. In real life Barnes wouldve got much up easily and then went back to kicking the shit out of Daniel san.

@jksonny I wonder too why Daniel would afraid of Barnes. I like you said, Chozen from KK2 tried to murder him, and here in KK3, Barnes is trying to humiliate and make Daniel look bad rather than kill him.

I don't know about you guys, but unlike the critics, I think this is actually pretty good.

@XxLEGITxXUrXxMuM Exactly what I thought! This 3rd one was crying out for the bullies to redeem themselves!

@satmandoo agree!!! if not that, kreese shouldve redeemed himself and realized his buddy was nutso!
crisvanfan 4 months ago
Why would Daniel be afraid of Barnes? That psychopath in KK2 was trying to literally murder him. What could be scary after that?

This movie had the same potential as Rocky V, it was just purely executed. But the scene at 00:30 - 1:10 is unbelievable. It reminded me of the Mickey flashback in Rocky V. It's scenes like this that make it worth while.

Should have brought back Johnny Lawerence for this movie. He could have helped Daniel against a common enemy, Kreese. Also Johnny would have kicked Barnes ass
DEACONFROST11 5 months ago 2
@DEACONFROST11 I don't know about that. That sounds like it would have been copy of the Rocky movies. Rocky fighting 2 matches with Apollo then Apollo helping Rocky fight Clubber Lang.
ryno23gocubs 5 months ago
@DEACONFROST11 I thought they should have brought back all 5 of them for this one personally! If Kreese was still going to be bad at least the bullies could redeem themselves!

Daniel San's kata is 'Seiuchin' used in black belt test
isrj01 5 months ago
If I could go back to '88, I'd tell John Avildesn to change the KK3 script:
1) Train Daniel and make him lose weight
2) Have him STOP TALKING so much, and talk tough
3) Have Danny bang the girl
4) Set the CK dojo on fire
5) Beat the ever living SHIT out of Barnes. Break his face.
6) Redeem Kreese and embarrass Silver
7) Secret move is not lame-ass kata. It is "Eagle," as in Desert Eagle pistol, which he shoots into Silver's forehead before decapitating him.
Joelomite 5 months ago 2
@Joelomite if danny banged the girl it would be considerd rape because danny was 26 whene this was made
vinceflo 5 months ago
@vinceflo They could've had another girl who was over 18. Or, not EVEN had the girl at all. She did nothing for the story whatsoever.
Joelomite 5 months ago
@Joelomite true
vinceflo 5 months ago
@Joelomite Yeah, I thought about that.....I don't think that was the point of the movie at all. It was more of a "good will prevail over the evil use" type of moral. Although, I would have loved to have seen Daniel win by reversing a dirty move from Barnes.
Beatle911 5 months ago
@Beatle911 True. Think of Rocky 4 when he POUNDED Drago into dog meat. That's what I longed to see in KK3. Hell, there was even respect from Drago afterwards. Everything was done WRONG in KK3 and that's why it did so poorly.
Joelomite 5 months ago
@Joelomite Meh, I attribute it more to Karate Kid II not living up to the original's expectations. Larusso always won with cheap wins, so I don't worry about it much. It actually makes me wonder if Miyagi's teaching methods are effective at this point.
Beatle911 5 months ago
@Beatle911 didn't know if you knew, but Pat Morita (Miyagi) was never a martial artist, he was simply choreographing. In actuality, both him AND Danny would've been whooped by Cobra Kai. It was an 80s inspirational movies series, so many impossible things were shown to be possible, including Danny's fluke wins :-)
Joelomite 5 months ago
@Joelomite Yeah, lol. Hence I said Mr.Miyagi's methods, not Pat Morita's. I'm just surprised that Daniel-San never got a legit win over anybody in the movie. Even Miyagi had to guide him through the fight with Chozen. Although I guess the competition wins were legit. Daniel-san would have been destroyed if he had been in a real fight.
Beatle911 5 months ago
@Beatle911 You're right about that!
Joelomite 5 months ago
@Joelomite lol, I just about it again. I would have loved to seen Daniel-San go all Hulk Hogan on Barnes.
Beatle911 5 months ago
Ya know as bad as it was to have Barnes as an enemy, I bet he would be a very loyal friend to have (basically, nobody would mess with you)
MisterAmerican650 5 months ago
You know why Daniel beat up Chozen, yet got humiliated by Mike Barnes? Daniel is fat and out of shape. When he fought Chozen he was ripped.

@codeman95291 chozen was stronger than daniel. but his live was in danger and daniel had to fight like a streetfighter.he was not in the same situation when he fought barnes .
666voltanaligern 5 months ago
@666voltanaligern yeah, i know but it seemed like daniel put up more of a fight against chozen then he did against barnes it seemed like barnes beat him easier even when they were fighting in mr miyagi's tree shop which was similar to a street fight but you're right when he fought chozen his life was in danger

LukeAlexanderMartin 6 months ago
I think Chozen could have beaten Mike and Silver and Kreese. Part 3 really sucked. They made Daniel weak.
gambit07jc85 6 months ago
@gambit07jc85 I think you miss the point. Daniel has never been a tough guy, they couldn't have found a less masculine actor if they tried, that's the whole point of the film! The climax at the end is all about Miyagi's training pulling off against what seemed like certain doom for Daniel. Just listen to the climax build with the music at 1:41 and then the BIG finish at 2:18 with the hiptoss and ground punch. They just do not make films like this anymore, this stayed with me as a kid to now.
Longlostpuss 6 months ago
@Longlostpuss I guess. I just thought it could be better. I mean common It seemed like he was stronger in the first two films.

TheDEATHSTARIII 6 months ago
This... is just painful to watch, he completely murders the Kata! Could they not have had someone who actually knows some Karate star in the film, or, heck, actually train him at least a little?
AndrisStafeckis456 6 months ago
@AndrisStafeckis456 I wouldn't call this a Kata. It's more like a show-off (to me), and i think he did a pretty good job at it. You know, he just wanted to get into the tiger stance, and confused Mike in the process
frandseib 6 months ago
@frandseib It is actually a Kata: /watch?v=SOPpJanMafY , unless, of course, you are referring to his half-ass style of execution canceling the validity of the Kata. It's way too rushed and he obviously has no idea of any of the Bunkai involved in the Kata.
AndrisStafeckis456 6 months ago
@AndrisStafeckis456 i will admit i know nothing bout Goju-Ryu, but i on't thin these look alike, and I honestly think, that Daniel's is better, sorry, but that's my opinion
frandseib 6 months ago
@frandseib Well, as someone who has studied Goju-Ryu for a little while now, including this Kata, I must say I feel nothing put sheer physical pain watching him try to execute it, but I respect your opinion regardless.
AndrisStafeckis456 6 months ago
@AndrisStafeckis456 I appreciate that, a lot in fact. Of course i respect your opinion as well, and your's is probably the right, since i know nothing about Goju-Ryu

it pisses me off on imdb when people say Miyagi was gay and wanted daniel, they were friends and that was it, he was a teacher to him and a kind of father / friend. he wanted Daniel to go to college and reluctantly took on the business (which maybe was a mistake) it would have been nice if Danny had got it together with that girl before the end tho
TURBODORK2 7 months ago
